Book Ignition Property Studies

Download or read book Ignition Property Studies written by Larry A. Diehl and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ignition delay times and the ignition temperatures of ethane-air and propane-air mixtures have been determined. The combustion properties of these fuels are compared with those of other potential scramjet fuels. The resonant wave patterns appearing in the fuel lines of mixing chambers have been examined by optical techniques. For mixing chambers without fuel flow (fuel line closed, which represents a simple resonance chamber) it was observed that (1) shock waves travel into the fuel line, (2) the frequency and strength of these waves depends on the flow rate of the oxidizer, and (3) according to the data from the streak photographs, the temperature of the gas in the fuel line can exceed the thermal ignition temperature of combustible gas mixtures. Similar results were also obtained for low rates of gas passing through the fuel line. The relationship between unexplained autoignitions observed in flowing gas mixtures and the resonance phenomenon is discussed. (Author).

Download or read book Ignition written by John Drury Clark and published by Rutgers University Press. This book was released on 2018-05-23 with total page 217 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This newly reissued debut book in the Rutgers University Press Classics Imprint is the story of the search for a rocket propellant which could be trusted to take man into space. This search was a hazardous enterprise carried out by rival labs who worked against the known laws of nature, with no guarantee of success or safety. Acclaimed scientist and sci-fi author John Drury Clark writes with irreverent and eyewitness immediacy about the development of the explosive fuels strong enough to negate the relentless restraints of gravity. The resulting volume is as much a memoir as a work of history, sharing a behind-the-scenes view of an enterprise which eventually took men to the moon, missiles to the planets, and satellites to outer space. A classic work in the history of science, and described as “a good book on rocket stuff…that’s a really fun one” by SpaceX founder Elon Musk, readers will want to get their hands on this influential classic, available for the first time in decades.

Book Guidelines for Determining the Probability of Ignition of a Released Flammable Mass

Download or read book Guidelines for Determining the Probability of Ignition of a Released Flammable Mass written by CCPS (Center for Chemical Process Safety) and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2014-06-09 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Complemented by an estimating tool spreadsheet based on a fixed set of chemicals to assist in risk estimations, Probability of Ignition of a Released Flammable Mass converts a "best guess" to a calculated value based on available information and current technology. The text documents and explains the science and background of the technology-based approach. The tool, when populated with appropriate data, yields an estimate of the probability that a defined release of a flammable material will ignite if exposed to an ignition source. This information can be used to make risk assessments with a higher degree of confidence than estimates made before and it provides valuable information for use in the development of a facility's Emergency Response Plan.
