Can a camera that captures those secrets, exposing them through pictures, save the marriage or send it crashing into the sea? Kelly Whitely is at the height of her career, selling the latest miracle drug to doctors and pharmacies across the country. But concerns about the side effects have her longing for the day when she can quit her high-paying job and really focus on saving her marriage and teenage daughter. She keeps trying to talk to her husband, Daniel, about it, but every time she brings it up, he retreats further and further away from her. Daniel Whitely is a successful marriage counselor and bestselling author, yet secrets from the past have created a chasm between him and Kelly. To make matters worse, the deadline for his second book has come and gone, and he still hasn’t written a single word. But he doesn’t dare tell anyone, not even his wife. When Daniel inherits an old camera from his grandfather, he notices an inscription on the bottom: “No matter what you think you might see, the camera never lies.” Daniel begins using the camera, but every time he develops his photos, they threaten to reveal secrets. Secrets about his own career, but also secrets about those around him, including Kelly. With each click of the camera, he risks exposure as a fraud, but if he doesn’t face the truths the photos reveal, what will happen to his marriage? To his family? A standalone short novel Approximately 60,000 words Includes discussion questions, perfect for book clubs Praise for The Camera Never Lies: "In his intriguing novel, The Camera Never Lies, David Rawlings challenges us to wonder what our photographs would look like if our souls, not our faces, were captured by the lens. A message relatable to us all, bottled in an adventure we all love to read.”—Melissa Ferguson, author of The Dating Charade "A thought-provoking look at the real price that secrets extract—not just from the person keeping them, but from their loved ones, too. You'll close this story and be compelled to examine your own life . . . and also look at those around you and wonder, 'Who else looks like they have it all together but is drowning on the inside?'"—Jessica Kate, author of Love and Other Mistakes

Book The Jube Dog Never Lies

Download or read book The Jube Dog Never Lies written by Ramin Zahed and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2000 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This unusual coming of age story is set in Tehran, right before and after the 1979 revolution, which replaced the Shah’s westernized regime with the rule of Moslem fundamentalists. The story’s narrator is a 12-year-old boy with an overactive imagination, who is in love with all things American and is surrounded by tight-knit web of eccentric relatives. In his chaotic world, street dogs give profound advice; otherworldly jins co-exist with humans; and an ancient culture lives side by side with the daily rhythms of American pop songs and sitcoms. Despite its exotic milieu, the characters and events of the book will seem strangely familiar to all of us who have lived through the difficult process of growing up. This may be an Iranian family, but readers everywhere will be able to identify with the narrator's rivalries with his brother, the summertimecar trips, the painful pangs of first love, disastrous dinner parties at home, and the dark shadows that death casts on daily life. The book also gives readers a colorful account of living through a difficult political climate through the eyes of a young boy; a perspective beyond what appears on TV news and daily headlines, and an interesting comment on the role of American pop culture in a Third World country.

Book My New Beginning

Download or read book My New Beginning written by Gingee and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2018-09-26 with total page 733 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Following my miraculous awakening and the “new me” that had actually taken form, I was startled to see the effect it had on the public persona. Consequently, immediately following my remarkable awakening and the celebration that followed thereafter, it had been brought to my attention that my life would no longer be the same as it once was. I soon learned that this was due entirely to the fact that I now possessed two particular unwanted characteristics that surprisingly caused me to be vilified by those of which I, at one time, considered to be my friends. Specifically speaking, following this unforeseen tragedy that befell me and the change of life that resulted thereafter, I was to remain with slightly impaired speech and also a slightly dysfunctional gait. Despite the fact that the overall effects that this tragic event had on my body and mind were relatively minimal, taking into account the overall essence of what had actually taken place, the actual effects that it had on my entire existence were well beyond reasoning. This was so, taking into account the ambiguous nature of that often-misconstrued term disABLED. With that in mind, I would like for the reader(s) of this forthcoming narrative to take heed to the fact that I am no longer in a catatonic state of mind and that this fortuitous event that occurred in my life, which I’ve chosen to write about, is based entirely on truth and is, therefore, entirely factual. However, before I say another syllable or utter another adjective, I would like for the reader(s) of this narrative to kindly take heed and, at the same time, pay credence to the ultimate power that the often-overgeneralized term love possesses. After all, my ultimate survival is a prime example of the veracity of the aforementioned statement.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: All religions have worked hard to give you the impression that I'm a stiff; the kind of guy you'd never invite to a party. . . . I like laughter and the people who do it; from the twitterers to the chucklers to those whose laughter roars out in a gallop of explosions. To me, laughter is taking a bite out of life and saying, "Just right." Signed: God Clever yet cynical Tim Conroy, a failed idealist with a chip on his shoulder, is unable to find a secure place for himself in 1960s South Side Chicago.
