Download or read book Atlas and the Traitor written by Layla Reyne and published by Layla Reyne. This book was released on 2025-09-23 with total page 13 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I was supposed to bring balance. That’s what my name—Atlas—means. It feels more like being torn apart. Between good and evil, Nature and Chaos, my brothers and our destiny. Always running after or from something. Including a certain coyote shifter who wants to rip me limb from limb. I’d rather he shred my kilt and do other things to me. But alas, shouldering fate keeps getting in the way. Or maybe I’ve got it all wrong. Maybe he’s the only path to balance, to the future. An end to the running. But we’d have to trust each other first. I’d rather tear myself apart than ever do that. Atlas and the Traitor, book three of the Soul to Find series, coming 2025.
Download or read book The Influences of Lucifer and Ahriman written by Rudolf Steiner and published by SteinerBooks. This book was released on 1993 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In these lectures, Steiner focuses on the vital task of developing the proper orientation toward a free spiritual life. With great compassion and understanding, he offers telling examples of how humanity must walk a conscious middle way between the two tempting powers of Lucifer and Ahriman. He describes the incarnation of Lucifer in the third millennium before the Christ event, out of which flowed not just the wisdom of paganism, but also the conscious intellect we enjoy today. Ahriman, on the other hand, is shown approaching human beings through such phenomena as materialism, nationalism, and literalism, all in preparation for his incarnation in the third millennium. Keep in mind, however, that these two powers do not work separately; rather, they are working increasingly together. Our task as human beings is to hold them in balance, continually permeating one with the other. Steiner tells us that "Lucifer and Ahriman must be regarded as two scales of a balance, and it is we who must hold the beam in equipoise. How can we train ourselves to do this? By permeating what takes ahrimanic form within us with a strongly luciferic element." To accomplish this task we need a new, more conscious inner life.

Download or read book The Personal Assistant written by Tony Breeze and published by Tony Breeze. This book was released on 2021-02-24 with total page 129 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mr Rolf is a disabled man who used to be a tyrannical college principal. Due to his recent disabilities has been forced to advertise for a personal assistant. An applicant arrives who seems to have all the necessary qualifications for the post and is taken on for a trial period. The story of the personal assistant is interspersed with flashbacks from another story, the story of Jerry Marshall, a left-wing English lecturer who used to work under Rolf. Marshall has apparently reached the lowly zenith of his career and is going through a mid-life crisis, trying to make a mark by writing novels in his spare time but none have yet been published. He is persuaded by a colleague to try for a position as Head of Department but things go terribly wrong for him when one of his own ex-students is awarded the post. In a fit of drunken despair and wanting to succeed at something in life, he persuades the college secretary to make a copy of one of his manuscripts on the college photocopier. Needless to say, she is caught by Rolf, who holds a kangaroo court and, without going into the whys and wherefores of the case, dismisses Marshall from his post. The dismissal is but one of a series of misadventures which are about to befall Marshall : fed up with his drinking and non-appearance, his wife then decides to ask him to leave and he begins a spiraling descent into the lowest echelons of society. Halfway through the film the personal assistant has taken Rolf for a walk in his wheelchair along a cliff path when the assistant’s mobile phone rings. He answers it and Rolf hears him use a different name – the name “Marshall” (the name of the man he fired) In the second half Rolf realises the danger he is in, as Marshall shows him the depths to which he sunk as a result, he believes, of his boss’s earlier decision to sack him, losing his wife, his family and finally becoming a mumbling, incoherent down-and-out Marshall has obviously come back for revenge but at the end the tables are turned when Rolf realizes that Marshall’s arrival is actually a blessing in disguise. He urges Marshall to do the deed, to release him from the shackles of his disability and send him tumbling over the cliff but Marshall then realizes that the worst revenge he can take on Rolf is to leave him in his disabled state to suffer in his final days.

Download or read book Broken Icarus written by David Hanna and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2022-06-15 with total page 251 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 2022 History Book Festival Official Selection. The 1930s still conjure painful images: the great want of the Depression, and overseas, the exuberant crowds motivated by self-appointed national saviors dressing up old hatreds as new ideas. But there was another story that embodied mankind in that decade. In the same year that both Adolf Hitler and Franklin D. Roosevelt came to power, the city of Chicago staged what was, up to that time, the most forward-looking international exhibition in history. The 1933 World’s Fair looked to the future, unabashedly, as one full of glowing promise. No technology loomed larger at the Fair than aviation. And no persons at the Fair captured the public’s interest as much as the romantic figures associated with it: Italy’s internationally renowned chief of aeronautics, Italo Balbo; German Zeppelin designer and captain, Doctor Hugo Eckener; and the husband-and-wife aeronaut team of Swiss-born Jean Piccard and Chicago-born Jeannette Ridlon Piccard. This golden age of aviation and its high priests and priestesses portended to many the world over that a new age was dawning, an age when man would not only leave the ground behind, but also his uglier, less admirable heritage of war, poverty, corruption, and disease. It was only later in the decade that the dark correlation between the rise of some of aviation’s superstars and the rise of fascism was to be revealed. But for a moment in 1933, this all lay in a future that still seemed so promising. In Broken Icarus, author David Hanna tracks the inspiring trajectory of aviation leading up to and through the World’s Fair of 1933, as well as the field of flight’s more sinister ties to fascism domestic and abroad to present a unique history that is both riveting and revelatory.

Book excerpt: Taking risks and exploring the unknown are as vital to human beings as our need for air, for growth, for affirmation that we exist for something. These 19 stories reach deep into humanity’s compulsion for the rush of new experiences. But gently, because it’s not only records we might shatter. When does adventure turn to recklessness? What happens when we toe the edge above the void and face the big silence, where we might see God -- and die without warning? The Icarus Syndrome seeks to capture our push for more and hold it to the light, lofty and free, for as long as we dare tempt the downward slip. Both are possible; only one is assured.

Download or read book Wind as a Geological Process written by Ronald Greeley and published by CUP Archive. This book was released on 1987-08-28 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book gives an account of geological aspects of windblown material. Aeolian processes play an important role in modifying the surface of the Earth, and they are also active on Mars. Additionally, they are thought to occur on Venus and possibly Titan as well. The authors describe the following aspects: wind as a geological process, the aeolian environment, physics of particle motion, aeolian abrasion and erosion; aeolian sand deposits and bedforms, interaction of wind and topography and windblown dust. A particular strength of the book is that it deals with aeolian processes in a planetary context, rather than as a purely terrestrial phenomenon. In so doing, the authors ably demonstrate how we can gain better understanding of the Earth through comparative planetology. This paperback reissue will enable the book to be used as a text for advanced students in planetary science. Special terms are defined when they are first used. There is a glossary and an exhaustive bibliography.
