Book Relativistic Quantum Physics

Download or read book Relativistic Quantum Physics written by Tommy Ohlsson and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2011-09-22 with total page 311 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Quantum physics and special relativity theory were two of the greatest breakthroughs in physics during the twentieth century and contributed to paradigm shifts in physics. This book combines these two discoveries to provide a complete description of the fundamentals of relativistic quantum physics, guiding the reader effortlessly from relativistic quantum mechanics to basic quantum field theory. The book gives a thorough and detailed treatment of the subject, beginning with the classification of particles, the Klein–Gordon equation and the Dirac equation. It then moves on to the canonical quantization procedure of the Klein–Gordon, Dirac and electromagnetic fields. Classical Yang–Mills theory, the LSZ formalism, perturbation theory, elementary processes in QED are introduced, and regularization, renormalization and radiative corrections are explored. With exercises scattered through the text and problems at the end of most chapters, the book is ideal for advanced undergraduate and graduate students in theoretical physics.

Download or read book Relativistic Quantum Mechanics and Introduction to Quantum Field Theory written by Anton Z. Capri and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2002 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This invaluable textbook is divided into two parts. The first part includes a detailed discussion on the discrete transformations for the Dirac equation, as well as on the central force problem for the Dirac equation. In the second part, the external field problem is examined; pair production and vacuum polarization leading to charge renormalization are treated in detail. Book Dynamical Theories of Brownian Motion

Download or read book Dynamical Theories of Brownian Motion written by Edward Nelson and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 1967-02-21 with total page 147 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These notes are based on a course of lectures given by Professor Nelson at Princeton during the spring term of 1966. The subject of Brownian motion has long been of interest in mathematical probability. In these lectures, Professor Nelson traces the history of earlier work in Brownian motion, both the mathematical theory, and the natural phenomenon with its physical interpretations. He continues through recent dynamical theories of Brownian motion, and concludes with a discussion of the relevance of these theories to quantum field theory and quantum statistical mechanics.

Book Many Particle Spectroscopy of Atoms Molecules Clusters and Surfaces

Download or read book Many Particle Spectroscopy of Atoms Molecules Clusters and Surfaces written by J. Berakdar and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2001-07-31 with total page 536 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the early days of modem physics spectroscopic techniques have been employed as a powerful tool to assess existing theoretical models and to uncover novel phenomena that promote the development of new concepts. Conventionally, the system to be probed is prepared in a well-defined state. Upon a controlled perturbation one measures then the spectrum of a single particle (electron, photon, etc.) emitted from the probe. The analysis of this single particle spectrum yields a wealth of important information on the properties of the system, such as optical and magnetic behaviour. Therefore, such analysis is nowadays a standard tool to investigate and characterize a variety of materials. However, it was clear at a very early stage that real physical compounds consist of many coupled particles that may be excited simultaneously in response to an external perturbation. Yet, the simultaneous (coincident) detection of two or more excited species proved to be a serious technical obstacle, in particular for extended electronic systems such as surfaces. In recent years, however, coincidence techniques have progressed so far as to image the multi-particle excitation spectrum in an impressive detail. Correspondingly, many-body theoretical concepts have been put forward to interpret the experimental findings and to direct future experimental research. This book gives a snapshot of the present status of multi-particle coincidence studies both from a theoretical and an experimental point of view. It also includes selected topical review articles that highlight the achievements and the power of coincident techniques.

Book Hard Magnetic Alloys

Download or read book Hard Magnetic Alloys written by and published by Springer. This book was released on 1992-12-16 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Volume 19 of Group III (Crystal and Solid State Physics) deals with the magnetic properties of metals, alloys and metallic compounds. The amount of information available in this field is so substantial that several subvolumes are needed to cover it all. Subvolumes III/19a through III/19f treat the intrinsic magnetic properties, i.e. those magnetic properties which depend only on the chemical composition and the crystal structure. So far, subvolumes III/19a, III/19b, III/19c, III/19d1, III/19d2, III/19e1, III/19e2 and III/19f1 have appeared. Data on the properties that depend on the preparation of the samples measured, as for instance, thin films, amorphous alloys or the magnetic alloys used in technical applications, are being compiled in the subvolume of III/19g (Thin Films) and III/19h which covers the magnetic properties of liquid quenched alloys containing transition elements. This subvolume III/19i2 deals with the magnetic properties of hard magnetic alloys for permanent magnets. The large fields of both the well-known magnets based on 3d elements and the currently widely investigated alloys based on rare earth elements are covered. The relation between the permanent magnet properties and the various preparation techniques of the alloys has obtained special attention.

Book Functional Analysis and the Feynman Operator Calculus

Download or read book Functional Analysis and the Feynman Operator Calculus written by Tepper Gill and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-04-08 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides the mathematical foundations for Feynman's operator calculus and for the Feynman path integral formulation of quantum mechanics as a natural extension of analysis and functional analysis to the infinite-dimensional setting. In one application, the results are used to prove the last two remaining conjectures of Freeman Dyson for quantum electrodynamics. In another application, the results are used to unify methods and weaken domain requirements for non-autonomous evolution equations. Other applications include a general theory of Lebesgue measure on Banach spaces with a Schauder basis and a new approach to the structure theory of operators on uniformly convex Banach spaces. This book is intended for advanced graduate students and researchers.

Book Interstitial Intermetallic Alloys

Download or read book Interstitial Intermetallic Alloys written by F. Grandjean and published by Springer. This book was released on 2012-11-05 with total page 728 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is well known that the density of molecular hydrogen can be increased by compression and/or cooling, the ultimate limit in density being that of liquid hydrogen. It is less well known that hydrogen densities of twice that of liquid hydrogen can be obtained by intercalating hydrogen gas into metals. The explanation of this unusual paradox is that the absorption of molecular hydrogen, which in TiFe and LaNis is reversible and occurs at ambient temperature and pressure, involves the formation of hydrogen atoms at the surface of a metal. The adsorbed hydrogen atom then donates its electron to the metal conduction band and migrates into the metal as the much smaller proton. These protons are easily accomodated in interstitial sites in the metal lattice, and the resulting metal hydrides can be thought of as compounds formed by the reaction of hydrogen with metals, alloys, and intermetallic compounds. The practical applications of metal hydrides span a wide range of technologies, a range which may be subdivided on the basis of the hydride property on which the application is based. The capacity of the metal hydrides for hydrogen absorption is the basis for batteries as well as for hydrogen storage, gettering, and purification. The temperature-pressure characteristics of metal hydrides are the basis for hydrogen compressors, sensors, and actuators. The latent heat of the hydride formation is the basis for heat storage, heat pumps, and refrigerators.
