Download or read book I Wouldn T Have It Any Other Way written by Samuel Myers Sr. and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2010-09-30 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When it comes to the final analysis, all of us has a story to tell. The problem is that to tell it takes a lot of will and patience. And when you think about it, willingness and patience are not some things that a lot of people have. I titled this book I Wouldnt Have It Any Other Way. This title was not just chosen, there is a reason behind me coming up with this title. After reading this book, no doubt many are saying within yourselves, How in Gods world did he arrive at this title after having experienced all of the things that he has experienced? When I look at my parents, siblings, and those that have shared many of the same experiences that I have, I decided to use all of these things as a stepping-stone, not as a stumbling block. I viewed these occurrences through the eyes of God. When I did, I said that I would not have it any other way. All of the different things that I personally have been through have enabled me to draw closer to God. Having such an intimacy with God has caused me to get to places in Him that I never imagined. I am mindful of the passage of scripture that is found in Romans 8:28. This scripture says that, And we know that all things work together for the good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. This being said, I feel that all things that were mentioned in the content of this book, both the good and not so good, have happened for my betterment. These are the things from my days of my infancy to this present time. With that being said, it was in the plan of God that I was born to Boston and Evelyn Myers. The things that they went through under the sharecropping system and the Jim Crow laws have helped me to value God and the things of God. The loss of my mother at an early age caused me to put my trust in God for my survival. The woodpile experience helped me to prepare for the establishment of a genuine relationship with God. Lastly, the union with Mary Elizabeth was not an accident. This most definitely was in the plan of God. My three sons that came out from this union was also in the plan of God. What can I say? I cannot say anything but that I Will Not Have It Any Other Way.
Download or read book Peckinpah written by Paul Seydor and published by University of Illinois Press. This book was released on 1999 with total page 442 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book that re-established Peckinpah's reputation--now thoroughly revised and updated! When critics hailed the 1995 re-release of Sam Peckinpah's masterpiece, The Wild Bunch, it was a recognition of Paul Seydor's earlier claim that this was a milestone in American film, perhaps the most important since Citizen Kane. Peckinpah: The Western Films first appeared in 1980, when the director's reputation was at low ebb. The book helped lead a generation of readers and filmgoers to a full and enduring appreciation of Peckinpah's landmark films, locating his work in the central tradition of American art that goes all the way back to Emerson, Hawthorne, and Melville. In addition to a new section on the personal significance of The Wild Bunch to Peckinpah, Seydor has added to this expanded, revised edition a complete account of the successful, but troubled, efforts to get a fully authorized director's cut released. He describes how an initial NC-17 rating of the film by the Motion Picture Association of America's ratings board nearly aborted the entire project. He also adds a great wealth of newly discovered biographical detail that has surfaced since the director's death and includes a new chapter on Noon Wine, credited with bringing Peckinpah's television work to a fitting resolution and preparing his way for The Wild Bunch. This edition stands alone in offering full treatment of all versions of Peckinpah's Westerns. It also includes discussion of all fourteen episodes of Peckinpah's television series, The Westerner, and a full description of the versions of Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid now (or formerly) in circulation, including an argument that the label "director's cut" on the version in release by Turner is misleading. Additionally, the book's final chapter has been substantially rewritten and now includes new information about Peckinpah's background and sources.
Download or read book Other Ways to Win written by Lee Craigie and published by Vertebrate Publishing. This book was released on 2023-09-07 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'I rode back down the hill to the athlete's village. Some of Team Scotland had been watching on the big screen and I arrived to hugs of congratulations. I went inside for a shower and ceremoniously dropped my heart rate monitor into the bin. It was the first day of the rest of my life.' A little before 1.30 p.m. on Sunday 21 July 2013, Lee Craigie crossed the finish line at Cathkin Braes in the southern outskirts of Glasgow several minutes ahead of her nearest competitor to become the British cross-country mountain bike champion. Lee's win was the culmination of seven years of training and sacrifice, but it marked the beginning of the end of her competitive career; less than a year later, at the same venue, this time representing her native Scotland at the Commonwealth Games, she crossed the line and quit professional bike racing for good. Lee Craigie is one of Scotland's great bike racers, yet she has accomplished much more since retiring. In Other Ways to Win she tells her story of growing up near Glasgow and discovering the freedom of cycling – skipping French lessons and heading off into the Campsie Fells to see just how far she could ride. These teenage adventures established cycling as the thread which would run through her life – not only through her racing life and into a new life of two-wheeled adventure, but also through the positive impact she would have on the lives of others, particularly encouraging other women through her work with the Adventure Syndicate. Written with breathtaking honesty, she recounts epic adventures along the Tour Divide, Silk Road and the Highland Trail 550, and examines themes of friendship, loss, identity and the power of the outdoors – and, of course, cycling. Lee Craigie's story is a welcome reminder that there is more than one way to win at cycling – and life.

Download or read book Kitchen written by Nigella Lawson and published by Knopf Canada. This book was released on 2011-11-30 with total page 757 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Kitchen tells the story of the life of the kitchen, through the food we eat now and the way we live, in the most important room of the house. Compendious, informative and utterly engaging, Kitchen brings us feel-good food for cooks and eaters that is comforting but always seductive, nostalgic but with a modern twist — whether express-style easy-exotic recipes for the weekday rush, leisurely slow-cook dishes for weekends and special occasions, or irresistible cakes and cookies as the Domestic Goddess rides again. It answers everyday cooking quandaries — what to give the kids for lunch, how to rustle up a meal for friends in moments, or what to do about those black bananas, wrinkled apples and bullet-hard plums — and since real cooking is so often about leftovers, here one recipe can morph into another... from ham hocks to pea soup and pasties, from chicken to Chinatown salad. This isn't just about being thrifty but about being creative and seeing how recipes come about and evolve. As well as offering the reader a mouthwatering array of inspired new recipes — from clams with chorizo to Guinness gingerbread, from Asian braised beef to flourless chocolate lime cake, from pasta Genovese to Venetian carrot cake — Nigella rounds up her no-nonsense Kitchen Kit and Caboodle must-haves (and, crucially, what isn't needed) in the way of equipment and magical standby ingredients. But above all, she reminds the reader how much pleasure there is to be had in real food and in reclaiming the traditional rhythms of the kitchen, as she cooks to the beat of the heart of the home, creating simple, delicious recipes to make life less complicated. The expansive, lively narrative, with its rich feast of food, makes this new work a natural 21st-century successor to Nigella's classic How To Eat, this time with a wealth of photographs from the instructive to the glorious.

Download or read book Flirting with Danger written by Lynn Phillips and published by NYU Press. This book was released on 2000-11-01 with total page 271 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How young women make sense of, resist, and negotiate conflicting messages on female sexuality and sexual agency In Flirting with Danger, Lynn M. Phillips explores how young women make sense of, resist, and negotiate conflicting cultural messages about sexual agency, responsibility, aggression, and desire. How do women develop their ideas about sex, love, and domination? Why do they express feminist views condemning male violence in the abstract, but often adamantly refuse to name their own violent and exploitive encounters as abuse, rape, or victimization? Based on in-depth individual and collective interviews with a racially and culturally diverse sample of college-aged women, Flirting with Danger sheds valuable light on the cultural lenses through which young women interpret their sexual encounters and their experiences of male aggression in heterosexual relationships. Phillips makes an important contribution to the fields of female and adolescent sexuality, feminist theory, and feminist method. The volume will also be of particular use to advocates seeking to design prevention and intervention programs which speak to the complex needs of women grappling with questions of sexuality and violence.
