Book excerpt: About the Book Adam St. James is back, this time in a thriller with his old friend from high school, April Mayes, and new friends helping him unwind a disaster of cosmic proportions. The story opens in the timeline of the Cryptid Trilogy. The Cryptid saga is over, and Adam is weary of the fighting, death and destruction, yet it persists and dogs him relentlessly. More bad news is about to be revealed for which Adam will be blamed, but for which he has no responsibility. A powerful immortal offers Adam, and the family of his choosing, the opportunity to depart Adam’s birth universe for an alternate universe where old struggles and battles do not exist. Catastrophic things are about to unfold over which he has no control. One of his old friends, April Mayes and her parents, do not possess the genetic profile that will allow them to survive the coming catastrophe; Adam chooses to invite them to spare their lives in the alternate universe. The rest of his family and friends will survive the catastrophe, as will an “alt” Adam who remains behind. Adam is warned to be careful about the attributes and items he and his fellow traveler wish to take with them; their wish to leave their home world behind will be granted, but do they understand how any minor tweaks may bend and alter the timeline in their new universe? This novel reimagines old characters in new cosmic circumstances telling a tale of what might happen when mortals mess with the very fabric of reality and existence. Adam, and April Mayes, who is now a famous TV and movie star, make the journey to a new universe together, but with unexpected and unintended altered personalities. What follows is disastrous, and in the end, a journey no one wished to make. How will they change, what are the consequences, and how will this adventure pan out? As usual, where goes Adam St. James also goes murder, intrigue, action and betrayal. Buckle up, readers, the adventure is about to begin!

Book The American Civil War Through British Eyes April 1862 February 1863

Download or read book The American Civil War Through British Eyes April 1862 February 1863 written by James J. Barnes and published by Kent State University Press. This book was released on 2003 with total page 370 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The dispatches from Lord Richard Bickerton Pemell Lyons, Second Baron, British Envoy Extraordinary in Washington, D.C., during the Civil War offer insight into contemporaneous Anglo-American relations. The three-and-a-half-year period covered in these two volumes witnessed the fierce and deadly battles of the war fought both in the North and in the South, the shifting moods of public opinion and patriotic fervor, the changing economic conditions, and the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln. The three volumes of The American Civil War through British Eyes make available important, previously unpublished documents that fill a void for students and scholars of the war. Lyon's dispatches offer a unique perspective on America during its bitterest test of national unity. Through them the Civil War unfolds not in retrospect but through the eyes of a contemporary observer.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Papers of Henry Clay span the crucial first half of the nineteenth century in American history. Few men in his time were so intimately concerned with the formation of national policy, and few influenced so profoundly the growth of American political institutions. Volume 7, the fourth and final of those dealing with Clay's role as secretary of state, carries the story of his career from January 1, 1828, to March 3, 1829. During these fourteen months, Clay and President John Quincy Adams strive unsuccessfully to solve a number of nagging diplomatic problems before leaving office. Among these are the northeast boundary controversy with Great Britain, the exclusion of American trade from the British West Indies, and the settlement of U.S. spoliation claims with France. Equally frustrating to Clay is the fact that the enormous amount of time and effort he has expended in Adams's reelection campaign has produced so little in return. To his genuine amazement and dismay, Andrew Jackson defeats Adams decisively. The volume ends in March 1829 with Clay facing an uncertain future. Unsure whether he wants again to practice law, he contemplates instead the prospect of managing "Ashland," his Lexington estate. At the same time, convinced that the Jackson administration can only end in disaster, Clay's thoughts turn to running again for the White House in 1832. With this possibility in mind, the nation's ninth secretary of state leaves Washington for home. Publication of this book was assisted by a grant from the National Historical Publications and Records Commission.
