Book excerpt: This book is intended for middle and high school teachers who are committed to the process-writing model and are eager to encourage their students in the last step of the process--publication. The book offers specific writing ideas and classroom activities that help students develop the confidence and ability to publish in a wide market, and it features an extensive list of commercial markets and writing contests open to young writers. The book also addresses the issue of evaluation and guides teachers in turning their classrooms into writing communities whose members work together to recognize and reward each writer. This book can serve as a handy reference guide to publishing opportunities for students (a comprehensive appendix lists nearly 150 publishing opportunities for young writers) and as a useful collection of writing ideas that teachers can use within their established English/language arts curriculum. Appendixes include: a comprehensive 150-item list of publishing opportunities--the Market and Control lists; electronic submissions; resources of technical advice for young writers; and sample formats for cover letters and manuscripts. Book Pre Incident Indicators of Terrorist Incidents

Download or read book Pre Incident Indicators of Terrorist Incidents written by Brent L. Smith and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 2011 with total page 540 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a print on demand edition of a hard to find publication. Explores whether sufficient data exists to examine the temporal and spatial relationships that existed in terrorist group planning, and if so, could patterns of preparatory conduct be identified? About one-half of the terrorists resided, planned, and prepared for terrorism relatively close to their eventual target. The terrorist groups existed for 1,205 days from the first planning meeting to the date of the actual/planned terrorist incident. The planning process for specific acts began 2-3 months prior to the terrorist incident. This study examined selected terrorist groups/incidents in the U.S. from 1980-2002. It provides for the potential to identify patterns of conduct that might lead to intervention prior to the commission of the actual terrorist incidents. Illustrations.

Book The Collages of Kurt Schwitters

Download or read book The Collages of Kurt Schwitters written by Dorothea Dietrich and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At the end of World War I, the German artist Kurt Schwitters dramatically broke with dominant artistic traditions by adopting collage as the primary medium for his literary and visual production. In The Collages of Kurt Schwitters: Tradition and Innovation, Dorothea Dietrich demonstrates how collages function for the artist. Characterising Schwitters's work as the product of the deep social and political crises of the Weimar Republic, Dietrich challenges the prevalent outlook that twentieth-century art can be reduced to a revolutionary struggle of avant-garde artists against an entrenched artistic tradition. The Collages of Kurt Schwitters argues for a more nuanced view, in which revolutionary art forms are exposed as containing much that is traditional and, indeed, reactionary.
