Book I m Up I m Down I m Bipolar Suicide Survivor with a Game

Download or read book I m Up I m Down I m Bipolar Suicide Survivor with a Game written by Peggy Jo Henry and published by Outskirts Press. This book was released on 2019-07-17 with total page 373 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Is my book fiction or nonfiction? You'll be the judge of that. Here's the hitch to get you to buy my semi-autobiographical book. My book is in two parts. "Episode I," the fun game, contains short entertaining and serious stories and poems. Because of the controversial subject matter, the shortness of my book, and the little-known fact that I'm not famous you go through unique "Episode I" hunting for hidden movie and song titles. There are approximately 775 movie, television, and documentary programs. Then there are the 341 songs, and an added "downright fun," to the game, by using 31 clues you go through finding an Oscar nominated actor for the Sherlock in all of us. Play on your smartphone, computer, or tablet at airports, coffee houses, appointments, and basically anywhere you have to wait. Play with family and friends to see who can find the most titles. Who is the actor? You'd be surprised. A lot of fun for the trivia and entertainment sleuth. Are you entertainment savvy enough to play the game? Just to let you know titles, names, short phrases, expressions, and ideas are not protected by copyright laws. "Episode II," the second part, is the more serious part. "Communication in a non-confrontational manner promotes learning." This sentence is in my book. Communication, what is it? How can I get information to you in a non-confrontational manner that concern you and me? "Episode II," is a memoir containing journal entries, emails, and letters coping with a possible situation that could have ended in a mass shooting, the ups and downs of mental illness, postpartum depression, suicide, and my air traffic control experiences. All topics of conversation in today's society. My book is a collectible and the only one of its kind in the world. A little something extra-I have included some of my favorite easy recipes. Enjoy.

  • Pages : 265 pages

Download or read book Hear Our Truths written by Ruth Nicole Brown and published by University of Illinois Press. This book was released on 2013-10-30 with total page 265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume examines how Saving Our Lives Hear Our Truths, or SOLHOT, a radical youth intervention, provides a space for the creative performance and expression of Black girlhood and how this creativity informs other realizations about Black girlhood and womanhood. Founded in 2006 and co-organized by the author, SOLHOT is an intergenerational collective organizing effort that celebrates and recognizes Black girls as producers of culture and knowledge. Girls discuss diverse expressions of Black girlhood, critique the issues that are important to them, and create art that keeps their lived experiences at its center. Drawing directly from her experiences in SOLHOT, Ruth Nicole Brown argues that when Black girls reflect on their own lives, they articulate radically unique ideas about their lived experiences. She documents the creative potential of Black girls and women who are working together to advance original theories, practices, and performances that affirm complexity, interrogate power, and produce humanizing representation of Black girls' lives. Emotionally and intellectually powerful, this book expands on the work of Black feminists and feminists of color and breaks intriguing new ground in Black feminist thought and methodology.

Book Incarnating Grace

    Book Details:
  • Author : Julia Feder
  • Publisher : Fordham Univ Press
  • Release : 2023-11-07
  • ISBN : 1531504744
  • Pages : 253 pages

Download or read book Incarnating Grace written by Julia Feder and published by Fordham Univ Press. This book was released on 2023-11-07 with total page 253 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Prioritizes survivors of abuse by reexamining Christian ideals about suffering and salvation More than half of women and almost one in three of men in the United States have experienced sexual violence at some time in their lives. Yet our Christian tradition has failed survivors of sexual violence, who have been taught to believe that traumatic suffering brings us closer to God. Incarnating Grace attempts to save our broken ways of talking about God’s grace by unearthing liberating resources buried in the Christian tradition. Christian ideas about salvation have historically contributed to sexual violence in our communities by reinforcing the idea that suffering is salvific. But a God worth worshiping does not want human beings to suffer. Drawing on the sixteenth-century Spanish mystic Teresa of Avila as well as contemporary political and feminist theologians, philosophers, and legal scholars, author and Associate Professor of theology Julia Feder offers an account of Christian salvation as mystical-political. Feder begins by describing the breadth of traumatic wounding and the shape of traumatic recovery, as articulated by psychologists. Since the fullness of post-traumatic healing requires reserves deeper than those which can be articulated by the secular field of psychology alone, the book then introduces the Spanish Carmelite Saint Teresa of Avila and her theological insights, which are most helpful for constructing a post-traumatic theology of healing. Arguing that God stands against violence and suffering, the book also examines the notion of “senseless suffering,” a technical term that comes from Edward Schillebeeckx, a Catholic twentieth-century Flemish priest and theologian. The suffering of sexual violence serves no higher purpose or greater human value and pushes against all ways of making sense of the world as good and orderly. In the following chapters, Feder turns to two Christian virtues that animate post-traumatic recovery, courage and hope, and explores how Christian hope can provide a language to empower courageous activity undertaken toward healing. Incarnating Grace opens a new dialogue about salvation and violence that does not allow evil to have the last word.
