When she finds out a town in Ireland will actually pay her to move there? Why not spend the second half of her life in a gorgeous country by the sea? But things aren't all that they seem. In preparing to move, Brandi discovers some big secrets about herself and her parents. First and foremost, that she's adopted. And then she finds a journal written in her father's handwriting claiming Brandi was found in that same Irish town she's heading to. Is it a coincidence, or something more? Still, starting over is everything she hoped for and more. An exotic location, new friends, and new adventures working in the local bar. Things are going really well... until she falls into the ocean. Touching salt water for the first time does something to her. Something... fishy. And her life gets even more confusing when she meets the handsome descendant of a pirate who swears he can help her find the truth about her past. All it'll take? More adventure. More danger. And a hunt for an incredible treasure. Brandi doesn't know what to believe, but she's going to have to figure something out soon, or she's going to have one whopper of a tail to tell.

Book Eating Chilli Crab in the Anthropocene

Download or read book Eating Chilli Crab in the Anthropocene written by Matthew Schneider-Mayerson and published by Ethos Books. This book was released on 2020-06-27 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this era of climate crisis, in which our very futures are at stake, sustainability is a global imperative. Yet we tend to associate sustainability, nature, and the environment with distant places, science, and policy. The truth is that everything is environmental, from transportation to taxes, work to love, cities to cuisine. This book is the first to examine contemporary Singapore from an ecocultural lens, looking at the ways that Singaporean life and culture is deeply entangled with the nonhuman lives that flourish all around us. The authors represent a new generation of cultural critics and environmental thinkers, who will inherit the future we are creating today. From chilli crab to Tiger Beer, Changi Airport to Pulau Semakau, O-levels to orang minyak films, these essays offer fresh perspectives on familiar subjects, prompting us to recognise the incredible urgency of climate change and the need to transform our ways of thinking, acting, learning, living, and governing so as to maintain a stable planet and a decent future.

Book Strange Encounters of the ENF Kind

Download or read book Strange Encounters of the ENF Kind written by K. S. Thompson and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2018-07-08 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many women know the feeling of walking alone in the dark woods at night, and feeling a strange chill go up their spine. The women in this book feel that chill spread over their breasts, butt, thighs, and... well, everywhere over their suddenly naked, blushing bodies. Weird Encounters of the ENF Kind contains five frighteningly good ENF stories, each with a new and erotic supernatural twist. "Dr. Perva's Halloween Party" takes you to Transylvania, where the beautiful and depraved Dr. Perva is throwing a world-class monster mash where many gorgeous creatures are doomed to be stripped naked. "A Giving Woman" introduces you to Lucina, a sweet little pushover who meets a hypnotist who wants her clothes. "All-Natural Dining" takes you into the kitchen of chef Karen West, who discovers a special mushroom that destroys the inhibitions of any poor woman who tastes it. "Eaten Out of House and Clothes" showcases Kelsey, who falls afoul of a clothing-shredding security device. And finally, "Blessing of the Boggart" tells an epic tale of Leonora, a high school senior with a powerful magical friend- Dust, the boggart. The problem is, Dust wants nothing more from the friendship than to humiliate Leonora as much as he can.KS Thompson's long-awaited second book continues in the humorous, character-based style that has received praise from such ENF luminaries as EmperorDalek ("I love your writing...") and ToddCheese ("really enjoyable"). Besides the humor, wit, and tantalizing description you expect, the stories in this collection dabble in all sorts of new genres and kinks, like transformation, hypnotism, wedgies, and ENM. But don't worry, the stars of the show will always remain the embarrassed, naked women. All fans of ENF, EUF, CMNF, Humiliation, and Naked in Public stories will doubtless be delighted by the fiendishly fantastical stories in this collection.

Book excerpt: Arthur Henry Sarsfield Ward (1883 – 1959), better known as Sax Rohmer, was a prolific English novelist. He is best remembered for his series of novels featuring the master criminal Dr. Fu Manchu. He issued the first Fu Manchu novel, in 1913. It was an immediate success. The Fu Manchu stories, together with his more conventional detective series characters—Paul Harley, Gaston Max, Red Kerry, Morris Klaw (an occult detective), and The Crime Magnet— made Rohmer one of the most successful and well-paid authors of the 1920s and 1930s. The first three Fu Manchu books were published in the four years 1913–17; but it was not until 1931 (some fourteen years after the third book in the series) that Rohmer returned to the series with The Daughter of Fu Manchu. The reason for the long interval was that Rohmer wanted to be well and truly done with the series after The Si-Fan Mysteries, much as Arthur Conan Doyle did with Sherlock Holmes. The first three books had been successfully filmed by Stoll in the twenties as a pair of serials. In 1928, Rohmer bowed to pressure and agreed to write a fourth novel as a serial for Collier's. Paramount had the first Warner Oland picture gearing up for production and the daily newspaper strip based on the series was in the offing.

Temple Grandin’s professional training as an animal scientist and her history as a person with autism have given her a perspective like that of no other expert in the field of animal science. Grandin and coauthor Catherine Johnson present their powerful theory that autistic people can often think the way animals think—putting autistic people in the perfect position to translate “animal talk.” Exploring animal pain, fear, aggression, love, friendship, communication, learning, and even animal genius, Grandin is a faithful guide into their world. Animals in Translation reveals that animals are much smarter than anyone ever imagined, and Grandin, standing at the intersection of autism and animals, offers unparalleled observations and extraordinary ideas about both.
