Download or read book Memories and Images written by Donald S. Vogel and published by University of North Texas Press. This book was released on 2000 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Donald Vogel arrived in Dallas at the beginning of World War II after a sojourn at the Art Institute of Chicago. "The feeling of space, its clear clean atmosphere, the calm courtesy of the people and promises of growth all gave hope to a young, would-be painter. What I could not have anticipated was that there would be no gentle growth: it exploded in every direction and the money followed." Along with the wealth came East Coast art dealers who followed the oil field trails throughout Oklahoma and Texas. They brought dubious art and fake old masters, but the same growth that attracted disreputable dealers also made it possible for Vogel to be part of bringing fine works of art to Dallas, first at the Betty McLean Gallery and later at his own Valley House Gallery. In the words of Dechard Turner, "The Gallery opened the doors to the highest levels of sophistication in art. Not all entered, but the triumph of the Vogel story is that many did!" Already established as a painter, Vogel soon became the outlet in Dallas of art dealers in the United States and Europe. He has been an important part of the Dallas art scene for fifty-eight years. In addition to the United States, Donald Vogel's art can be found in private collections in Canada, Mexico, South Africa, Italy, Germany, England, France, Japan and twelve museum collections. His publications include books for the Amon Carter Museum, The Boardinghouse, Charcoal and Cadmium Red, and a Retrospective illustrated catalog.

Book Loving Naomi

  • Author : Meghan Newkirk
  • Publisher : WestBow Press
  • Release : 2021-02-18
  • ISBN : 1664221131
  • Pages : 201 pages

Download or read book Loving Naomi written by Meghan Newkirk and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2021-02-18 with total page 201 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Naomi Lang is an anxious, but funny young college student who unknowingly suffers from Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. Weighed down by her rapid and unwanted thoughts, she moves through life feeling certain God has left her. Naomi is unintentionally transparent, often over expressing herself then pushing those she needs away from her out of fear. As she is mentored by her newfound friend, Miss Corrie Dean, her heart begins to see her need for a savior and realizes she desires a solution for the chronic self-torture she endures. At the same time, her relationship with the young landscaper she meets begins to tear down her walls of emotional protection, exposing deeply rooted battles more than she can bear. She will almost lose all the people she feels can reassure her, only to find that God has already provided practical tools along with Himself to help her. “Loving Naomi was an engaging and relatable read for anyone who has struggled with feelings of anxiety or struggled to understand someone who experiences feelings of anxiety, obsessions or compulsions. Faith was beautifully woven in the story of fear, love and new experiences. As a Christian therapist, I see this book as a necessary piece of fiction in a market that lacks material integrating life with mental illness and dependency on Christ.” Whitney Johnson Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor “Engaging and fun, Loving Naomi is not only a great read but it is also a rare and insightful glimpse into the mind of someone struggling with OCD. I highly recommend this novel for anyone who wants a deeper understanding of themselves and others who struggle with unwanted and intrusive thoughts. Best of all, through Naomi’s story, Newkirk beautifully points us all to the Lord, whose grace is ever sufficient for us.” Vaneetha Risner Author of Walking Through Fire
