Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When his mother died, eight-year-old David Butler's life changed forever. Expectations for his future disappeared along with his mother's warm presence, but the days ahead still held promise. David set his own bar high, and this at risk child never let go of the idea that he would become something greater. Laughed at by his family when he announced his plan to go to college, David received little support for his dreams. But he never stopped asking himself whether he could really have that life, whether it was possible to transcend his current circumstances and reach higher. Do our limits stop us from achieving or just provide opportunities to push past them? Young David used his natural optimism to keep working, and he made it to college. Today he holds a bachelor's degree and an MBA, and he has found a fulfilling career. One important lesson was that he was never really alone; the teachers and mentors who helped him along the way were a constant source of inspiration. This profound story shows how personal strength can overcome adversity. And it shows how the challenges we face in life can be our greatest teachers in the end.

Download or read book How Could I have Missed This I m a Registered Nurse written by C. Hill RN and published by Page Publishing Inc. This book was released on 2019-04-22 with total page 65 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On February 4, 2012, a young forty-nine-year-old female had a stroke while in a Kroger store. This was before all the ads came out about if someone can't talk, you need to get them to the ER. That was what had happened to her the day before. She then had a stroke while her son was waiting for her to bring him his treats for the wrestling tournament that he was in. Her daughter was waiting for her to come home, and she was calling her to see what was the matter. Her mother didn't take the phone with her. She didn't think she would need it. The funny thing was that, this woman was an experienced ICU, psychiatry, and emergency room RN. The things that happened after she had her stroke were unbelievable and life changing. She had a second stroke, a seizure, an inordinate amount of falls, depression, and anxiety. She had dealt with infidelity. She spent her time in one room of a large house, only leaving occasionally. It had been a difficult road, but even with total disability, you can overcome. This book is written to give others support, to let nurses know that you have to take care of yourself and you can never pray too much.

Book excerpt: Dave Foster, Chief Engineer for Burton Aircraft, has a problem. Three of Burton's new Aerostar 800 commercial jets have crashed recently shortly after takeoff from Denver. His engineers can't find a design flaw, and the FAA has concluded the crashes resulted from unusual weather conditions, but Dave has doubts since, in all three cases, a wing apparently came off before the plane crashed. His investigation leads to an attempt on his life, resulting in extensive injuries and a lengthy period in a coma. One of his engineers is mysteriously murdered. Dave suspects a material substitution for a limited number of planes has been made to alleviate a schedule problem, but can't find out who made the change and for how many planes. As more planes crash in the same manner, an all-out effort is launched to locate and fix the planes with substitute parts. A web of overambitious and unscrupulous Burton personnel and suppliers complicates his efforts. Even after the defective planes are located and repaired, assigning responsibility for the part substitution and bringing the malefactors to justice challenges Dave and the detective assigned to the case. Lawsuits complicate Dave's efforts to keep the company going with new products.

Book From Rage to Reason

Download or read book From Rage to Reason written by Emily Horowitz and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2023-06-30 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Analyzing sex-offense laws and false claims, this book shows that laws based on vengeance rather than justice or evidence create new forms of harm while failing to address the real and pervasive problem of sexual violence. In this timely and extensively researched book, sociologist Emily Horowitz shows how current sex-offense policies in the United States create new forms of harm and prevent those who have caused harm from the process of constructive repentance or contributing to society after punishment. Horowitz also illustrates the failure of criminal justice responses to social problems. Sharing detailed narratives from the experiences of those on registries and their loved ones, Horowitz reveals the social impact and cycle of violence that results from dehumanizing and banishing those who have already been held accountable. From Rage to Reason offers a new perspective on how and why false claims about sex offenses became so pervasive and how these myths fostered ineffective policies that have little to do with the reality of most sexual abuse. It argues that to truly prevent sexual abuse, we must unearth the sources of these misunderstandings, debunk these claims in a systematic way, and have frank and genuine discussions about the limits of legal responses to complex social problems.

Book Help I m a Foster Parent Experiences from Real People Hope from a Real God

Download or read book Help I m a Foster Parent Experiences from Real People Hope from a Real God written by Nikki Hertzler and published by Ambassador International. This book was released on 2023-05-02 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Foster families are unsung heroes, willing to stand on the front lines for children who can’t stand up for themselves. But fostering can also be a lonely journey as friends and family members pull away from the fear of the unknown. We all have a job to do, and it starts by stepping forward and wrapping around those who are sacrificing so much. In Help! I’m a Foster Parent: Experiences From Real People. Hope From a Real God., Nikki Hertzler has compiled the stories of foster families and others who are in the trenches—loving, advocating, and fighting for children who have found themselves displaced from their biological families. Their poignant, transparent stories will help you get a glimpse into the true realities of fostering, discuss ways to support these families, and encourage others on their own foster journey through a daily prayer, Scripture, and reflection. Endorsements These stories from foster and adoptive moms will be an encouragement to other foster and adoptive moms. This is hard, hard work. These stories remind us of our humanity, God’s greatness, that we are not alone, and how desperately we all need Him. Trisha Porter Backyard Orphans Anyone who steps into the fostering system sooner or later realizes how broken and dark it is. For fostering families, the road is often frustrating and lonely. For the children in foster care, the emotions are so much more than that. That is why we need a book like this. Discouragement is always close by, and the emotions and feelings run deep. But families are not alone. We all need to be encouraged to persevere in the messiness, to love the children who didn’t ask for this, to encourage biological parents about whom few care—to be a light in the darkness. Pastor Derek Parker, Lead Pastor Starkey Road Baptist Church, Seminole, Florida As someone who has never fostered, I found the stories in Help! I’m a Foster Parent powerful. The genuine emotion of each devotion is heartfelt. Honestly, the experiences provoked in me a deeper empathy and support for the brave parents who choose to open their homes. But the book provides so much more. It honestly relates to the foster parents’ many challenges and offers understanding, camaraderie, encouragement, and hope. This book is a must-read for those desiring a deeper understanding of God’s command to care for the needy and the orphans. Lauren Crews Author of Strength of a Woman: Why You Are Proverbs 31

Book I Am Not a Victim I m a Ministry Gift

Download or read book I Am Not a Victim I m a Ministry Gift written by Evangelist Linda J. Waiters and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2006-01-03 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book, a testimony of the author's life experiences permitted by God, is simply God's predestined release of just one of many tools specifically designed to awaken His Church from its state of apostasy. As the author unveils Satan's strategic plan to abort her God ordained destiny to preach, the fundamentals of apostasy which not only worked against her but continue to work against the true Church of today are also revealed. Evangelist Waiters meticulously contrasts the activation of spiritual gifts, such as dreams of Hell in her childhood, versus satanical attacks like molestation, racial struggles, voodoo, betrayals, addictions, promiscuity, and abortion designed to destroy her even before she received Christ and recognized the call on her life. God delivered her from the jaws of death several times. After receiving Christ and being gloriously baptized in the Holy Ghost, she records experiences in church which promoted Satan's plan of destruction more so than God's plan of redemption. She shares events which ultimately led her back into cycles of destruction including internet dating. Nevertheless, her testimony serves as God's heart cry and warning to clergy worldwide against the mishandling of His children seeking Him as their refuge. Eventually, God's grace brings her to the realization that she is not the vessel of dishonor she resigned herself to be, but that she was systematically being trained and qualified to sound an alarm to the Body of Christ. Consequently, this book exposes the workings of the spirit of Jezebel which operates hand-in-hand with apostasy. Satanic snares and contracts are exposed, along with explanations as to why Believers remain bound and ineffective, through the discussion of false prophets, greed, tradition and idolatry. The author concludes by extending hope to readers through the discussion of salvation and why we need Jesus Christ to save us.
