Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Like most parents, the thought of having to bury your child never crossed our minds, especially from a cancer we had never heard about. Before July 2008, I didn't know that a cancer like adrenocortical carcinoma even existed. To think that someone so innocent and who had so much life ahead of him could even get cancer was beyond our comprehension. The topic of "childhood cancer" was completely unknown to us. Now here I am writing the obituary for my son Cole. - Prologue.

Book Two Infinities

Download or read book Two Infinities written by Leslie Belitz and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2019-01-23 with total page 151 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Kaitlyn entered our world on May 22, 2012. I watched her lock eyes with her mother, and the two souls bonded in a familiar and forever love. Her eyes were wide open, proving her to be an alert child, ready to take on the challenges of life. As her grandmother, I watched Kaitlyn excel in all her childhood developmental milestones. When Kaitlyn approached five years old, she was diagnosed with a rare cancerous tumor in her brain stem referred to as DIPG. This book is a tribute to her short and meaningful life. It highlights the final seven months of her physical existence as we celebrated every day with her and prepared for her death. It includes “Kaitlyn Gems,” the words I recall her saying, which proved she was a wise soul. The book validates that a short life, when filled with love, is meaningful.

Book A Love Letter to Adam

Download or read book A Love Letter to Adam written by Maureen Doyle Hodge and published by . This book was released on 2017-04-06 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When Adam Hodge was diagnosed with leukemia at the age of four, his ensuing four-and-a-half-year brutal struggle with cancer included many moments of despair, but also many moments of joy. Avoiding sentimentality, this amazing account of a plucky little boy who continues to reach out to help others even as his situation deteriorates is both heartbreaking and humorous. This is not just another cancer story. It is also an exquisite love story. In his short life, Adam was sustained by the love of neighbors, of family, of medical providers, of community, and especially of parents. This support allowed him, in the face of a dire prognosis, to live life fully as a fun-loving young child who gave as much love as he received, and who touched and changed so many lives. Examining the big questions of life, love, and death, and acknowledging pain even as it celebrates life, this story will hurt your heart. It will make you cry. But it will also make you laugh and make you sing. Adam's inspiring and uplifting story demonstrates that life may not be fair, but it can still be full of joy and of loving, of laughter and of tears, of life in all its complexity.

Book The Silent Storm

Download or read book The Silent Storm written by John Boykin and published by Page Publishing Inc. This book was released on 2022-11-03 with total page 151 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book the Silent Storm is written and tells the story about a normal family whose life was turned upside down when they found out their daughter had cancer. Carrie, the daughter, was a normal nine-year-old that was a vibrant, energetic, and healthy young girl who played many different sports-her favorite being soccer. Then one day she had gone to school and fell ill. The school notified the parents, and Carrie was picked up and brought home. After two days of hospital visits, the doctors found a large tumor on her ovary. At this time, panic set in, and the doctors agreed that surgery was the first course of action. The surgery was done the next morning, and the tumor was, in fact, cancerous. At this point, the shock of hearing those words left the whole family devastated. At that time, the doctors advised that chemotherapy was the only and most important course of treatment, so with the Mom and Dad's permission, the treatment began. After many months of treatment, the doctors advised that Carrie was in remission. The news was good, but the worry never goes away. Continue the journey, and read the Silent Storm. Feel the roller-coaster ride of ups and downs, and learn that cancer is not a death sentence anymore. Cancer can, indeed, be treated and cured. See how Carrie beat her cancer and moved on with her life. God bless to all who have been touched by this disease.

Download or read book Continuing Bonds written by Dennis Klass and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2014-05-12 with total page 388 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1996. This new book gives voice to an emerging consensus among bereavement scholars that our understanding of the grief process needs to be expanded. The dominant 20th century model holds that the function of grief and mourning is to cut bonds with the deceased, thereby freeing the survivor to reinvest in new relationships in the present. Pathological grief has been defined in terms of holding on to the deceased. Close examination reveals that this model is based more on the cultural values of modernity than on any substantial data of what people actually do. Presenting data from several populations, 22 authors - among the most respected in their fields - demonstrate that the health resolution of grief enables one to maintain a continuing bond with the deceased. Despite cultural disapproval and lack of validation by professionals, survivors find places for the dead in their on-going lives and even in their communities. Such bonds are not denial: the deceased can provide resources for enriched functioning in the present. Chapters examine widows and widowers, bereaved children, parents and siblings, and a population previously excluded from bereavement research: adoptees and their birth parents. Bereavement in Japanese culture is also discussed, as are meanings and implications of this new model of grief. Opening new areas of research and scholarly dialogue, this work provides the basis for significant developments in clinical practice in the field.
