For Mark, his girlfriend Dana and another sailing couple, times are good. They have been sailing for the past five years on Lake Grapevine and enjoying life. Then the other couple and their sailboat disappear. Marks manager and co owner of the boat, is promoted and moved to Harlingen by the company they work for. Mark agrees to sell his half of the boat to his manager, if they ship the boat to Galveston. That way Mark gets the chance to sail on the gulf while delivering the sailboat to Port Mansfield. Mark manages to locate their missing sailing friends in Galveston and reconnect with them. The reason they left without a word to Mark and Dana is soon revealed. Mark and Dana agree to help their friends solve their problem. From there things swerve left into Mexico's coastal waters. The couples are suddenly thrust into the murky, dangerous, and potentially deadly world of drug running, kidnapping, and evading the Mexican Navy. Events unfold that put the two couple's friendship to the test as the couples face some extreme challenges. Will their resourcefulness and courage be enough to get them through?

Book excerpt: The deliciously effervescent new novel from Celia Imrie, beloved character actress and author of Not Quite Nice, follows the exploits of two women on a cruise ship. The phone hasn't rung for months. Suzy Marshall is discovering that work can be sluggish for an actress over sixty--even for the star of a wildly popular 1980s TV series. So when her agent offers her the plum role of Lady Bracknell in The Importance of Being Earnest in Zurich, it seems like a godsend. Until, that is, the play is abruptly cancelled under suspicious circumstances and Suzy is forced to take a job on a cruise ship to get home. Meanwhile Amanda Herbert finds herself homeless in rainy Clapham. The purchase of her new apartment has fallen through, and her children are absorbed in their own dramas. Then she spots an advertisement for an Atlantic cruise and realizes that a few weeks onboard would tide her over and save her money until her housing situation is resolved. As the two women set sail on a new adventure, neither can possibly predict the questionable characters and strange dealings they will encounter, nor the unexpected rewards they will reap. Vividly evoking the old-world glamour of a cruise ship--and the complex politics of its staff quarters--Sail Away is at once a hilarious romp and a thrilling adventure.

Three college roommates are celebrating a twentieth wedding anniversary by taking a cruise to Bermuda. Abby, the mother hen of the group, will be celebrating her wedding anniversary in style, even as she and her husband keep a secret from the group. Ambitious career woman Caroline happily anticipates several stress-free days away from her magazine job with her boyfriend, Javier, who may or may not be finally inspired to propose. And single mom Lee (annoyingly gorgeous and irresistibly popular in college) hopes she’ll win back the affections of her formerly sweet daughter Lacey, who after her first year in college, has inexplicably become a little bit of a monster. As the balmy pink shores of Bermuda come into view, tensions simmer, and old jealousies flare, sending the temperature from soothing to scorching in this engrossing tale of three best friends on a vacation they won’t soon forget—but not for the reasons they expect.

Book Sailing to the Edge of Time

Download or read book Sailing to the Edge of Time written by John Kretschmer and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2018-11-13 with total page 298 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: John Kretschmer is sailing's practical philosopher – as much a doer as a thinker. And that is the overarching theme of this chronicle of a sailing life. Often amusing, sometimes poignant, occasionally terrifying but always inspiring, his deeply personal account is a welcome reminder of the good life waiting at sea. With hundreds of thousands of nautical miles under his keel, John's adventures have taken him several times around the world, with challenging crossings of the Atlantic and the Pacific, a narrow escape from a coup in Yemen, an unlikely deliverance from a coral reef off Belize as well as more serene, introspective passages where trade winds are blowing and stories are flowing. His crew has included CEOs, actors, writers, teachers, kids – in essence, everyone. John's narrative is interwoven with practical tips and advice in seamanship, but also, and just as importantly, his hard-won insights about making the most of our lives. He truly believes we find out who we really are, and what we are capable of, far from the shackles of land, when we find a place where time changes shape – days may merge into one another, but minutes are memorable. To live adventurously is to live more fully, and that is the life John Kretschmer continues to live. In this book he shares his simple profundities that will inspire those who live to sail, and those seeking something more rewarding from life.
