  • ISBN : 174253600X
  • Pages : 270 pages

Download or read book Lola Bensky written by Lily Brett and published by Penguin Group Australia. This book was released on 2012-09-25 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lola Bensky is a nineteen-year-old rock journalist who irons her hair straight and asks a lot of questions. A high-school dropout, she's not sure how she got the job – but she's been sent by her Australian newspaper right to the heart of the London music scene at the most exciting time in music history: 1967. Lola spends her days planning diets and interviewing rock stars. In London, Mick Jagger makes her a cup of tea, Jimi Hendrix (possibly) propositions her and Cher borrows her false eyelashes. At the Monterey International Pop Festival, Lola props up Brian Jones and talks to Janis Joplin about sex. In Los Angeles, she discusses being overweight with Mama Cass and tries to pluck up the courage to ask Cher to return those false eyelashes. Lola has an irrepressible curiosity, but she begins to wonder whether the questions she asks these extraordinary young musicians are really a substitute for questions about her parents' calamitous past that can't be asked or answered. As Lola moves on through marriage, motherhood, psychoanalysis and a close relationship with an unexpected pair of detectives, she discovers the question of what it means to be human is the hardest one for anyone – including herself – to answer. Drawing on her own experiences as a young journalist, the bestselling author of Too Many Men has created an unforgettable character in the unconventional and courageous Lola. Genuinely funny and deeply moving, Lola Bensky shows why Lily Brett is one of our most distinctive and internationally acclaimed authors. 'Brett delivers an entertaining story that is also full of heart.' Australian Bookseller and Publisher 'A touching look at a woman's quest for self-understanding.' Who Weekly 'Funny, warm and insightful.' Herald Sun 'For Brett, resolution has come through creative remembering and retelling, and by constructing a fine comic novel from an unspeakable tragedy.' Australian Book Review 'A witty novel you'll struggle to put down.' Grazia 'A book that will entertain legions of readers.' Courier Mail 'An entertaining story that is also full of heart.' Bookseller+Publisher 'Lily Brett's heroines exude curiosity and Lola Bensky is no exception.' Sun-Herald 'Brett's sixth book hooks you in, not just because of her characteristic wit, but because she was a rock journalist herself back in the day.' Melbourne Times Weekly 'Lola Bensky will thrill [Brett's] fans: finally a book based on her extraordinary experiences as a reporter for Australia's first music magazine, Go-Set, during the most exciting era in pop music history.' Book The Creation of Form

Download or read book The Creation of Form written by Cathy Chapman and published by Light Technology Publishing. This book was released on 2019-08-01 with total page 235 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We are the Golden Elohim, the creative aspect of that which you call God. Remember, you are the aspect of God who is exploring different aspects of love from the third dimension. You could say we manifest the ideas from the mind of God. The human mind is expanding and therefore able to create more than ever before. Encodements bring your ideas, the ideas you gather from the mind of God, into form. You do not create the encodements of form. Those who work with encodements do. You, however, hold in your mind’s eye, the third eye, the template of what you wish to create. Then those who work with encodements develop the energetic structure of the template you create. This is cocreation. The energy you shape has no desire of its own. Its purpose is to follow the creator’s intention. You are such young creators. You are not aware of the power of your thought and intention. You are not aware how fragile the creation of form is. When you work to create nonphysical form, the focus of your intention is crucial for creation. If the form of your creation is unclear, you cannot focus your intention. This may result in being displeased with your creation. Be clear how you want your abundance to take form. Know that you are working with the laws of this planet as well as the laws of energy. When you digress from your intention by reviewing what you don’t have rather than what you want to create, the energy you use to create disperses, just as the wind comes along and disperses your pile of leaves. True abundance comes from the heart. You do not need things to have true abundance.

Book See Me Rolling

Download or read book See Me Rolling written by Lottie Jackson and published by Random House. This book was released on 2023-06-01 with total page 263 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A wonderfully witty and fiercely passionate memoir on living with a disability, and how we can redefine what it means to be disabled. ________________________________ 'Jackson's frank, fearless and sometimes hilarious book deserves to be read as widely as possible.' Daily Express 'I am blown away . . . Beautifully written, funny and such an important call to action.' Venetia La Manna 'I loved, loved, loved this book. A profound, heartfelt and eye-opening look into the way people with disabilities are treated, with the power of championing change and inclusion for all.' Charli Howard ____________________________________________ In this heartfelt, thought-provoking and often hilarious book, Lottie Jackson reflects on her experiences of living with disability: from the pitfalls of going shopping on a mobility scooter, and the headache of defining oneself on a tick-box form, to a slapstick scuffle with the so-called 'easy-pull' tights aid, and the intense pleasure of finally swapping a hospital gown for a slinky dress. Lottie captivatingly expresses the raw vulnerabilities, injustices and untold joys of disability, as well as the bizarre everyday occurrences that able-bodied people usually don't experience. Lottie powerfully explores the ways in which we undervalue and underrepresent disabled people in our society, and demonstrates how negative stigmas about 'abnormal' bodies seep into all aspects our lives. In this dazzling debut, Lottie reveals why we must strive for change and redefine what it means to be disabled in every facet of life.

Book excerpt: Donald closed his eyes, lifting his chin, and drawing his bushy white eyebrows together importantly. The table waited silently, the glass still. ‘It’s the girl,’ he finally said, ‘she’s here. She wants to communicate with you, Meredith. You lead.’ All eyes turned to Meredith, and she felt the camera train on her face. Heart hammering in her chest, her mind went instantly blank. She struggled to think of anything she was supposed to say. Get a grip, Meredith, you’re on camera. The girl wants to speak to you, so treat her like any other child. The only difference is that this one is dead. Just a minor detail, right? ‘OMG. Haunted was fantastic, I couldn’t put it down!’ Done with therapy and desperate for change, Meredith Knight fakes a parapsychology degree and takes a job as a presenter on a locational shoot in Scotland. Part respite from the constraints of caring for her alcoholic mother, part crash course in dealing with the dead, Meredith hopes to dampen her fear and gain the confidence to find out what her dead sister wants. Maybe then Eve will leave for good, and her mother can stay dry. Maybe then she can live a normal life. But as the pressure of the shoot increases, Meredith is left with far more questions than answers, and she struggles to grasp the truth she desperately needs. With her mother in a downward spiral at home, and Eve’s presence intensifying into a claustrophobic malevolence desperate for attention, Meredith is no longer frustrated, she begins to feel haunted, watched, and afraid. 800 miles from home, terrified and alone, Meredith begins to feel she has made a catastrophic mistake. Shadows seen from the corner of her eye, a sinister form that materialises behind the curtains, the reappearance of a childhood teddy bear she would rather forget, and unearthly voicemails left on her phone are setting her nerves on edge. As Eve’s horrifying story closes in there is no escape, Meredith is forced to deal with what really happened to her sister all those years ago. What she uncovers destroys the very foundation of her own dysfunctional childhood, and for the first time in her life she begins to question not only whether she can trust those around her, but whether she can trust herself. ‘Haunted really had me gripped, I didn’t see the end coming.’
