Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: My book is a personal, perhaps parochial and anecdotal, but nonetheless sociological consideration of the pleasures and pains of having a dog in your life. It is a story that every dog-lover will surely find empathy with. But it isalso anattempt to explore some of the common-thread factors....of relationships, attachments, and the inevitable and developmental changes and stages....that affect us all on our journey through life.... through a focus on the life, lossand bereavement of our family pet. The title is taken from the famous Meryl Streep 'I had a farm in Africa' line, as she playedthe central character, Karen Blixen, in the film, 'Out of Africa'. That was an intimate andmoving story of unexpected attachment......and, hopefully, this is another......

Book Ww2 Through the Eyes of a Child

Download or read book Ww2 Through the Eyes of a Child written by Patrick J. Cullen and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2012 with total page 117 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the true story of a little child called Patrick, who was one of five little brothers that came through, what seemed like a strange world full of bombs dropping, causing big fires and total destruction on a massive scale, every morning I would wake up to see new Wendy houses to play in not realizing someone lived there the day before, and the houses were still burning it was nice and warm, food was so scarce it was rationed so much so we had a plot of land where the family tried to grow our own food, sweets and fruit I did not see until I was 14yrs old, as for toy's well you just made your own if you could, what the war failed to do was any damage to Manchester folks "wicked sense of humour", that's why to me they will always be the salt of the earth and I should know I am one of them. There is an old saying, you can take the child out of Manchester, but you will never take Manchester out of the child. The best way to give you an understanding about the war is this, if you can imagine that almost every single nation on this planet was involved in the fighting for 6 long years, with the exception of Spain Switzerland & Sweden who were neutral.

Book Party Days

Download or read book Party Days written by Geoffrey Partington and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2015-03-03 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the autobiography of a working class boy in a cotton-spinning town in Lancashire who became a teacher, headmaster, schools inspector and university lecturer in England, and Australia. He also carried out commissions to enquire into teacher education and social studies curricula in England and New Zealand, and taught after retirement from Flinders University in South Australia for two years in the University of the South Pacific in Fiji. He was a guest lecturer in Canada, the United States and Poland. These are the externals of a career. Geoffrey tells a fascinating story of his childhood and school days. He became a Sunday School teacher and Baptist Lay Preacher in his teens, but at university in Bristol became a member of the Communist Party and was for several years a leading figure in communist teacher politics and in the Peace Movement. Subsequently he repudiated communism and Marxism and in Australia became a severe critic of most of the ideas, policies and practices he had advocated as a young man. This is a valuable social history and gives insights into the main ideological conflicts of the twentieth century. Since emigration to Australia in 1976 Geoffrey has had published twelve books and over a hundred articles. His academic qualifications include BA Hons and MEd from Bristol University, BSc (Soc) (Hons), Teachers Certificate and Academic Diploma of Education, and PhD from the University of Adelaide. . At 83 Geoffrey still engages between hospital bouts in Australian disputes in politics, history and education. The autobiography gains its name from his nickname at school of Geoff Party and because the Party for many years among the British Left meant the Communist Party.
