Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are many books written on or about the Altar; However, God has placed a burden on me to write this short book that is coming from a slightly different direction about the Altar. A direction that will hopefully challenge the reader to think about making that Altar call or making that step to the Altar, by the end of this book. It is my prayer that the reader will take the call of the Altar more seriously than he/she has ever taken it before. Let the challenge begin!

Book excerpt: Do you find yourself in a church that leaves you wondering what ever happened to the directive, 'Love your enemy'? What about, 'Turn the other cheek'? How do these teachings fit into your idea of the American way? The problem is: they don't. Too many churches are so bogged down in the law-or on the other end of the spectrum, the Gospel of Prosperity-that they've forgotten to listen to what Jesus really teaches. Altar Call: Where Went Mercy? is former Seventh Day Adventist Steve Huff's examination of the clear discrepancies between the teachings of Christ and the agenda of some Christian churches today. Huff covers such topics as: The trustworthiness of church leaders The proper instruction of the doctrine of grace The historical truth regarding the ending of the Old Covenant The value of the teachings of Christ And even water-boarding-Should Christians call for torture? Let this Altar Call speak grace to you.

Book Why I Still Do Altar Calls

Download or read book Why I Still Do Altar Calls written by Gregory Tyree and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2013-12 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For centuries Baptists and many other evangelicals have used the "altar call" as a means to challenge people to respond the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Billy Graham has used this method to call over 200 million people to the Savior. Yet, today the public invitation is being attacked from many fronts, especially Reformed churches and church leaders who adhere to Calvinism and Hyper-Calvinism. Dr. Greg Tyree takes a pastoral approach, rather than a strictly scholarly one, to defend the thesis that the altar call is not only historically relevant, but is Biblical and appropriate when used ethically and Scripturally. If seeing people come to Christ in public meetings is important to you, tis book will both encourage you and challenge you.

Book excerpt: This book was inspired by a really bad dream; most people would call it a nightmare. There was a young lady being raped by a man that she trusted, and he also had planned for his friends to get in on the action. That story was titled The Flattering Tongue due to how our flesh can easily be manipulated by words causing us to stumble not only physically, but emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. There are so many different types of situations that happen with or without being in a relationship, that in the end, we feel insecure, unworthy of love, helpless, and lost, wanting to give up after the bad thoughts of feeling that God has forsaken us. We sometimes ask, "Why did you allow this to happen to me, God? I thought I was your child, your daughter! I'm tired of hurting, I'm tired of being weak, and I'm tired of my past staring me back in the face!"In some of these stories, it shows the realities of life which includes hurt caused by others, hurt caused by poor choices, and how to make better choices to prevent as much pain and grief in ones' life. We have moments when we are weak, whether we know The Word or not, we are fleshly beings surrounded by temptation, spiritual wickedness, and natural disasters. We cannot and will not be perfect on the earth no matter how much we desire to be or how much we work at it. Once we fall in the flesh, there are so many consequences that we must face due to our actions. Whether we are the guilty party or the innocent, every action causes a scar in our life that we aren't always able to cover up or one we can't seem to recover from. We try so hard to cover up the guilt, the shame, and the embarrassment instead of seeking the One True and Living God that is able to, with his all seeing eye, find the broken part of us, restore us whole, and then give us a new start. He shows us that daily, even if we go through bad times, loss, rejection, and other life circumstances that reflect failure or pain, He's with us, He's helping us, and He will see us through. God shows us, with Him, all things are possible, we can make it through to the other side, and that No weapon formed against us shall prosper. We are all overcomers by our faith, and we need not be afraid. This book is to remind us that if we all just leave all of our worries, pain, un-forgiveness, and the names of the ones that hurt us at the altar, we can walk away freely without feeling weighed down. Let's begin a new chapter together as we lay it all out at the altar.

Book excerpt: This volume examines commitment in the context of the individual and institutional response to God's call to be God's people. "The call from God is a call to the altar, to the holy, in a simple do-able way," explains the author. "Right now we are a little like an aborted African chant in the mainline church; there is a call, but no response." Donna Schaper outlines various reasons for this disconnect between call and response, and she offers ten concrete ways of responding to the gospel through specific actions that will help persons reconnect with their commitment to be the people of God.

Book excerpt: The Altar Call is a thorough examination of the public invitation practice within Christian evangelism. In addition to giving a comprehensive historical background that spans three continents, The Altar Call also poses the following question: If John Wesley, George Whitefield , and Jonathan Edwards are regarded as the great figures of modern evangelicalism, why did none of these important leaders practice the invitation system that became so important in so many later evangelical groups? This important study will be of interest to both religious scholars and lay people, who are curious about the antecedents, development, and current use of the altar call.
