Book Hygiene of Women and Children Classic Reprint

Download or read book Hygiene of Women and Children Classic Reprint written by Janet E. Lane-Claypon and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-04 with total page 374 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Hygiene of Women and Children In this book passing references only have been made to general sanitation - just to point out how general sanitation affects the individual. The next development of the whole subject of Hygiene was along certain special lines - the hygiene of the child at various ages. Thus, the school medical service deals with the child of school age, the infant welfare work started on the infant after birth, and spread backwards to the mother and onwards to the child of school age. As a whole, the subject had arisen and had of necessity been dealt with, as it were, in sections of the community. Again, we have the special arrangements for dealing with tuberculosis and venereal disease, all on communal lines. A community is, however, made up in the aggregate of families, and these of individuals, and it is to the individual and the home that attention has been directed in this book. After all, it is to the individual that we must come in the end for any concerted effort. General public health measures will only carry us a certain way - they must be the first step - but the final step must be by the individual. It has been well said that people can be made neither healthy nor sober by Act of Parliament. Acts of Parliament are, however, essential in dealing with the impediments which prevent individuals from working out their own salvation, but they cannot effect this. This book was released on 2016-12-22 with total page 634 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Viavi Hygiene for Women, Men and Children The first thing we must realize is that life is not a burden to be borne, nor living a task to be done. We must understand that life belongs not to us alone, to be wasted or improved as may best suit our inclinations, tastes or appetites. We are unquestionably designed by Nature to be what scientists call gregarious creature I - that is, creatures that ock together, that have the social instinct strongly developed, and that must therefore have duties to others as well as to themselves. This law of our being is one of the fundamental principles of Christianity and of all the other great religions. The Golden Rule, expressed in one form or another, is as old as human intelligence; it underlies all civil law and is the foundation of governments. These laws are but imperfectly understood, and our knowl edge of them is continually progressing. In the present state of medical science a com prehensive study of them is the labor of a life, and should therefore be undertaken only by those Who are able and Willing to devote their lives to the subject. Necessarily, such individuals constitute but a small portion of mankind. It is to them that all others must look for special instruction as to the preser vation of health, and the most probable means of regaining it when it has been lost. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Personal Hygiene and Home Nursing: A Practical d104 for Girls and Women for Home and School Use As I look back over years spent in a medical practice confined largely to patients suffering from a moderate degree of chronic invalidism and nutritional disorders, certain facts present them selves in a striking Way. First, that the cause of this depleted health is almost always the result Of a lack of knowledge and consequent failure to conform to natural laws. Second, that whatever measure of success results from the treatment of such cases is due, almost entirely, to the establishment of a scheme of living suited to the individual case. The patient is entered upon a course Of progressive upbuilding, being instructed as to diet, bathing, exercise, rest, and amount and character of work. With careful and explicit instruction and with guidance from week to week, the results in most cases are excellent, the patient gaining In weight and strength. Little or no medicine is required, and it is gratifying to see the interest of the average person in the plan of treatment and his enthusiasm in carrying it out. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Hygiene of Childhood: Or the Care of Children Throughout Childhood and Puberty In my lecture to-day, it will be my aim to show you that it is equally important to enforce these rules throughout childhood, that the development of the child may not be retarded or interfered with. Infancy includes the space of time from birth to the completion of the first dentition, about two and a half years, when childhood may be properly said to begin. The little one can now make known its wants and discomforts, the dangers incident to dentition are over, the nervous system is less susceptible to all im pressions, and not so easily disturbed by injudicious feeding or exposure to cold, both of which are so dis astrous at an earlier age. Book First Book in Hygiene

Download or read book First Book in Hygiene written by William Otterbein Krohn and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-05-17 with total page 174 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from First Book in Hygiene: A Primer of Physiology In these lessons for young children simple language is used in the presentation of such facts about the structure of the body and its functions as are necessary for clear and definite knowledge of the general laws of health, including the effects of alcohol and narcotics. This book is for the use of pupils just beginning to learn something of the care the human body requires in order to insure the full enjoyment of health. The value of a primary book upon any subject depends both upon the language used and the varied forms of appeal to the child's mind, in order that his interest may be aroused. In this book there are few complex sentences. There is, also, such frequent alter nation in story, written exercise, and observation, picture, memory, and reading lessons that the subject-matter cannot become trite. The lessons are so logically arranged, and so pedagogically co-ordinated, that every sentence, every ques tion, every picture, every poem, every written exercise, forms a vital part in the presentation of hygienic law as an educational whole, in a form most readily comprehended by the child. Anatomy, strictly speaking, is a science the study of which requires the more mature mind of the advanced high school or college student. Only such basal facts of thebody's structure are here presented as are necessary for a clear understanding of the laws of health.
