Book Hydrodynamic Towing Evaluation of SSBN 623 and SSBN 636

Download or read book Hydrodynamic Towing Evaluation of SSBN 623 and SSBN 636 written by Allan A. Muise and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 37 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An experimental evaluation was conducted to investigate the surface towing characteristics of the SSBN-623 and SSBN-636 submarines. A 1/19.394-scale model was towed in the David Taylor Model Basin deep water towing basin, varying towpoint location, metacentric height (GM), trim and several stern appendage modifications. SSBN-623 was towed in a stable configuration at speeds up to 10 kn full-scale with the sternplanes set to 25 deg trailing edge up, at trim between 4.5 ft (1.37 m) and 6.0 ft (1.83 m) down by the stern, with a GM between 0.97 ft (0.296 m) and 1.90 ft (0.579 m), and with a lower-rudder plate appendage attached. A stable towing configuration can be obtained for SSBN-636 by replacing the missing 4-ft (1.22 m) section of the lower rudder and making the same changes as listed for SSBN-623. The use of sternplane scoops stabilized both SSBN-623 and SSBN-636, but with a non-acceptable increase in towline tension. Hydrodynamic performance, Towing characteristics, Submarine towing stability.

Book Hydrodynamic Towing Stability Evaluation of SSN 688 Class Submarines

Download or read book Hydrodynamic Towing Stability Evaluation of SSN 688 Class Submarines written by and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 55 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An experimental evaluation was conducted to investigate the surface towing characteristics of SSN-688 class submarines. A 1/22.5-scale model was towed in the David Taylor Model Basin with variations in displacement, trim, metacentric height (GM), towpoint location and with several stern appendage modifications. The SSN-688 class submarine was towed in a stable configuration at speeds up to 10 kn with the sternplanes set to 25 deg trailing edge up, at a trim between 6.0 and 7.5 ft (1.83 and 2.29 m) down by the stern, at a displacement between 5000 and 5650 LTSW, with a GM between 0.75 and 1.10 ft (0. 23 and 0.34 m), with the lower rudder extended 2.25 ft (0.69 m) and with a lower rudder plate appendage attached. Hydrodynamic performance, Towing characteristics, Submarine towing stability.

Book Hydrodynamic Towing Evaluation of SSN 637 Class Short Hull and Long Hull Submarines with Modified Bows

Download or read book Hydrodynamic Towing Evaluation of SSN 637 Class Short Hull and Long Hull Submarines with Modified Bows written by and published by . This book was released on 1991 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An experimental evaluation was conducted to investigate the surface towing characteristics of short-hull and long-hull SSN-637 Class submarines with modified bows. A 1/16.667-scale model was towed in the DTRC shallow-water towing basin, varying towpoint location, metacentric height (GM), displacement, trim and sternplane/rudder plate configuration. The short-hull and long-hull SSN-637 Class submarine with modified bow was towed in a stable configuration at speeds up to 10 knots (5.14 m/s) full-scale with the sternplanes set to 25 deg trailing edge up, at a trim of 6 ft (1.83 m) down by the stern, at either displacement, at either GM, with either towpoint, with a lower-rudder plate appendage attached.

Book Hydrodynamic Towing Evaluation of the USS SKATE SSN 578

Download or read book Hydrodynamic Towing Evaluation of the USS SKATE SSN 578 written by Stephen A. McCauley and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 19 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An experimental evaluation was conducted to investigate the surface towing characteristics of the USS SKATE (SSN-578). A 1/14.198-scale model was towed in the DTRC deep-water towing basin using a single towpoint and several sternplane configurations. The results indicate that the SSN-578 can be satisfactorily towed with an additional 50% sternplane area aft and the sternplane set at 25 deg trailing edge up. Keywords: Nuclear powered submarines; Submarine models; Towed bodies; Scale models; Hydrodynamic stability; Hydrodynamic control surfaces performance. (edc).

Book Signal Processing for Cognitive Radios

Download or read book Signal Processing for Cognitive Radios written by Sudharman K. Jayaweera and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2014-11-19 with total page 763 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines signal processing techniques for cognitive radios. The book is divided into three parts: Part I, is an introduction to cognitive radios and presents a history of the cognitive radio (CR), and introduce their architecture, functionalities, ideal aspects, hardware platforms, and state-of-the-art developments. Dr. Jayaweera also introduces the specific type of CR that has gained the most research attention in recent years: the CR for Dynamic Spectrum Access (DSA). Part II of the book, Theoretical Foundations, guides the reader from classical to modern theories on statistical signal processing and inference. The author addresses detection and estimation theory, power spectrum estimation, classification, adaptive algorithms (machine learning), and inference and decision processes. Applications to the signal processing, inference and learning problems encountered in cognitive radios are interspersed throughout with concrete and accessible examples. Part III of the book, Signal Processing in Radios, identifies the key signal processing, inference, and learning tasks to be performed by wideband autonomous cognitive radios. The author provides signal processing solutions to each task by relating the tasks to materials covered in Part II. Specialized chapters then discuss specific signal processing algorithms required for DSA and DSS cognitive radios.
