Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a society where hustle is the expectation, busyness is the norm, and constant information is king, we've forgotten the fundamentals that make us human, anchor our lives, and provide meaning. Jefferson Bethke, New York Times bestselling author and popular YouTuber, has lived the hustle and knows we must stop doing and start becoming. Our culture makes constant demands of us: Do more. Accomplish more. Buy more. Post more. Be more. In following these demands, we have indeed become more: More anxious. More tired. More hurt. More depressed. More frantic. But it doesn't have to be that way. To Hell with the Hustle is your wake-up call to slow down and reclaim your life in an overworked, overspent, and overconnected world. If you're feeling overwhelmed with the demands of work, family and community or if you're tired of being anxious, lonely, and burned out, To Hell with the Hustle will give you the tools you need to: Proactively set boundaries in your life Get comfortable with obscurity Find the best way to push back against the demands of contemporary life Discover the importance of embracing silence and solitude Handle the stressors that life throws at us Join Bethke as he discovers that the very things the world teaches us to avoid at all costs--silence, obscurity, solitude, and vulnerability--are the very things that can give us the meaning, the peace, and the richness we're truly seeking. Praise for To Hell with the Hustle: "Ever feel like you need to work harder, put in more time to get ahead, or do everything in your power to be the best? That's the hustle. It can push you to places you don’t want to go, and I've gone there more than I care to admit. In his latest book, To Hell with the Hustle, Jefferson Bethke will help you understand why the hustle can seem so alluring, show you how to avoid the traps it's created in our culture, and find true joy chasing after Christ instead." --Craig Groeschel, pastor of Life. Church and New York Times bestselling author

Book Bandage Sort and Hustle

Download or read book Bandage Sort and Hustle written by Josh Seim and published by Univ of California Press. This book was released on 2020-02-04 with total page 271 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is the role of the ambulance in the American city? The prevailing narrative provides a rather simple answer: saving and transporting the critically ill and injured. This is not an incorrect description, but it is incomplete. Drawing on field observations, medical records, and his own experience as a novice emergency medical technician, sociologist Josh Seim reimagines paramedicine as a frontline institution for governing urban suffering. Bandage, Sort, and Hustle argues that the ambulance is part of a fragmented regime that is focused more on neutralizing hardships (which are disproportionately carried by poor people and people of color) than on eradicating the root causes of agony. Whether by compressing lifeless chests on the streets or by transporting the publicly intoxicated into the hospital, ambulance crews tend to handle suffering bodies near the bottom of the polarized metropolis. Seim illustrates how this work puts crews in recurrent, and sometimes tense, contact with the emergency department nurses and police officers who share their clientele. These street-level relations, however, cannot be understood without considering the bureaucratic and capitalistic forces that control and coordinate ambulance labor from above. Beyond the ambulance, this book motivates a labor-centric model for understanding the frontline governance of down-and-out populations.

Book Hustle and Float

Download or read book Hustle and Float written by Rahaf Harfoush and published by Diversion Books. This book was released on 2019-02-19 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: OUR CULTURE HAS BECOME OBSESSED WITH HUSTLING. As we struggle to keep up in a knowledge economy that never sleeps, we arm ourselves with life hacks, to-do lists, and an inbox-zero mentality, grasping at anything that will help us work faster, push harder, and produce more. There’s just one problem: most of these solutions are making things worse. Creativity isn’t produced on an assembly line, and endless hustle is ruining our mental and physical health while subtracting from our creative performance. Productivity and Creativity are not compatible; we are stuck between them, and like the opposite poles of a magnet, they are tearing us apart. When we’re told to sleep more, meditate, and slow down, we nod our heads in agreement, yet seem incapable of applying this advice in our own lives. Why do we act against our creative best interests? WE HAVE FORGOTTEN HOW TO FLOAT. The answer lies in our history, culture, and biology. Instead of focusing on how we work, we must understand why we work—why we believe that what we do determines who we are. Hustle and Float explores how our work culture creates contradictions between what we think we want and what we actually need, and points the way to a more humane, more sustainable, and, yes, more creative, way of working and living.

  • Pages : 94 pages

Download or read book Open Your Mind written by Jamar Johnson and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2012-08 with total page 94 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is Poetry at its best! “Same blood, same flesh and same chemical composition. We breathe, we eat, we think and we feel. Our only difference is… PRECEPTION!!! The way in which we view people, places and things based on what we know and how we feel and/or have felt. The glass can be half full and/or half empty.” Growth and development comes in stages: as children, we see in black in white; as young adults, we see in black, white and grey; and as Men & Women, we see the never ending various shades of colors. “The more I learn, the less I realized I know.” Over the years I found that it seems everyone would like things to go their way. So it started to make sense why my plans didn’t always work out! That’s about the time I learned: to role with the punches in life; to make the best of everything; to always breathe easy; and what I feel is most important… was the ability to lose small. My book is a lot of deep thoughts, self reflection, over years of studies. I don’t believe that emotions should have the right to override intellect. The mind controls the body, so I think and I dare you to think also. The choices we make are based on what we want and/or feel we need to. Your choices are yours and they may or may not affect my life, but consequences come with all choices… choose wisely. Just know that you chose… conscious or not. Email me at … [email protected] Open Your Mind “See As Eye See” is also on facebook. Feel free to let me know what you think.
