Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The Gila Wilderness is both a landmark in conservation history and a living, evolving place. First and Wildest is an elegant, impassioned, and timely tribute to its remarkable past and present.” —MICHELLE NIJHUIS In the summer of 1922, Aldo Leopold traveled on horseback up into the headwaters of New Mexico's Gila River and proposed to his bosses at the Forest Service that 500,000 acres of that rough country be set aside as roadless wilderness. Thus was born America's first—the world's first—designated wilderness. A century later, writer–activists, including Indigenous voices, come together to celebrate this vast, rugged landscape, the Yellowstone of the Southwest. Contributors include Michael P. Berman, Philip Connors, Martha Schumann Cooper, Beto O'Rourke, Martin Heinrich, Pam Houston, Priyanka Kumar, Laura Paskus, Sharman Apt Russell, Jakob Sedig, Leeanna T. Torres, and JJ Amaworo Wilson. ELIZABETH HIGHTOWER ALLEN is a contributing editor at Outside magazine, where she spent twenty–plus years editing award–winning features and writing columns and book reviews. A transplanted southerner turned westerner, she lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico, where she edits books and articles about public lands, memoir, and adventure, and serves on the advisory board to Writers on the Range. She and her husband and daughter spend as much time as they can exploring the rivers and mountains of the West—while also making it back to Tennessee fairly frequently for ham biscuits. Her mind is blown by the rugged vastness of the Gila.

After abandoning Wall Street to embrace her lifelong love of cooking, Georgia Pellegrini comes face to face with her first kill. From honoring that first turkey to realizing that the only way we truly know where our meat comes from is if we hunt it ourselves, Pellegrini embarks on a wild ride into the real world of local, organic, and sustainable food. Pellegrini’s road trip careens from the back of an ATV chasing wild hogs along the banks of the Mississippi to a dove hunt with beer and barbeque, to the birthplace of the Delta Blues. Along the way, she meets an array of unexpected characters—from the Commish, a venerated lifelong hunter, to the lawyer-by day, duck-hunting-Bayou-philosopher at dawn—who offer surprising lessons about food and life. Pellegrini also discovers the dangerous underbelly of hunting when an outing turns illegal—and dangerous. More than a food-laden hunting narrative, Girl Hunteralso teaches you how to be a self-sufficient eater. Each chapter offers recipes for finger-licking dishes like: wild turkey and oyster stew stuffed quail pheasant tagine venison sausage fundamental stocks, brines, sauces, and rubs suggestions for interchanging proteins within each recipe Each dish, like each story, is an adventure from beginning to end. Book Clean Eating Cook Book

  • Release : 2020-06-04

  • Pages : 99 pages

Download or read book Clean Eating Cook Book written by Sarah Anderson and published by . This book was released on 2020-06-04 with total page 99 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Clean eating is a new term for an ancient dietary practice. Our hunter-gatherer forbears practiced clean eating, quite unconsciously. They ate whatever they could find, grow, fish, and hunt. Any preservatives they added were found in nature and not created in a chemistry lab. They ate their food in its natural state, or close to it, if you include cooking. Consequently, they received the most nutrition possible from their food. Clean eating means you avoid any processing that changes the food from its original state. If you want to be technical, even cutting into your food is a form of processing, but cut up fresh tomatoes are every bit as nutritious as the whole fruit. This does not necessarily preclude cooking. The key is being aware of what happens to your food when you process it. For example, if you want to preserve the vitamin C in your fresh fruit, you'll eat it immediately after cutting it open and you'll prepare juices right before they'll be consumed. Some nutrients are destroyed by extended exposure to heat, so you'll need to pay attention to how long you're cooking your food. I will cover more on these topics in my book and more. This step-by-step guide will not only show you how to get started but will also take you by the hand and show you mouthwatering recipes from breakfast to dinner and I have even included Clean Eating snacks and a hidden smoothie BONUS, that will have all your friends and family member's hooked and eating clean too. What are you waiting for?
