Book The Ideal Team Player

Download or read book The Ideal Team Player written by Patrick M. Lencioni and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2016-04-25 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In his classic book, The Five Dysfunctions of a Team, Patrick Lencioni laid out a groundbreaking approach for tackling the perilous group behaviors that destroy teamwork. Here he turns his focus to the individual, revealing the three indispensable virtues of an ideal team player. In The Ideal Team Player, Lencioni tells the story of Jeff Shanley, a leader desperate to save his uncle’s company by restoring its cultural commitment to teamwork. Jeff must crack the code on the virtues that real team players possess, and then build a culture of hiring and development around those virtues. Beyond the fable, Lencioni presents a practical framework and actionable tools for identifying, hiring, and developing ideal team players. Whether you’re a leader trying to create a culture around teamwork, a staffing professional looking to hire real team players, or a team player wanting to improve yourself, this book will prove to be as useful as it is compelling.

Book Hungry Hungry Coworker

Download or read book Hungry Hungry Coworker written by Cody J. Bok and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Theft is a widely studied phenomenon in the workplace. However, much of this research focuses on organizational theft (i.e., stealing from the company), and no studies to date have investigated coworker lunch theft, although preliminary research indicates it may be a chronic problem for employees. The goal of my study is to examine lunch theft in the workplace and establish it as a person-directed counterproductive work behavior. The present study investigates what motivates a lunch thief to steal fellow coworkers’ food and/or drink that they brought to work using the theory of planned behavior (Ajzen, 1991) to explain the occurrence of lunch theft behavior. This research will help identify lunch theft as a new form of counterproductive work behavior and lead to future research identifying the impact this behavior has on victims and organizations as a whole.

Book Ask a Manager

Book excerpt: From the creator of the popular website Ask a Manager and New York’s work-advice columnist comes a witty, practical guide to 200 difficult professional conversations—featuring all-new advice! There’s a reason Alison Green has been called “the Dear Abby of the work world.” Ten years as a workplace-advice columnist have taught her that people avoid awkward conversations in the office because they simply don’t know what to say. Thankfully, Green does—and in this incredibly helpful book, she tackles the tough discussions you may need to have during your career. You’ll learn what to say when • coworkers push their work on you—then take credit for it • you accidentally trash-talk someone in an email then hit “reply all” • you’re being micromanaged—or not being managed at all • you catch a colleague in a lie • your boss seems unhappy with your work • your cubemate’s loud speakerphone is making you homicidal • you got drunk at the holiday party Praise for Ask a Manager “A must-read for anyone who works . . . [Alison Green’s] advice boils down to the idea that you should be professional (even when others are not) and that communicating in a straightforward manner with candor and kindness will get you far, no matter where you work.”—Booklist (starred review) “The author’s friendly, warm, no-nonsense writing is a pleasure to read, and her advice can be widely applied to relationships in all areas of readers’ lives. Ideal for anyone new to the job market or new to management, or anyone hoping to improve their work experience.”—Library Journal (starred review) “I am a huge fan of Alison Green’s Ask a Manager column. This book is even better. It teaches us how to deal with many of the most vexing big and little problems in our workplaces—and to do so with grace, confidence, and a sense of humor.”—Robert Sutton, Stanford professor and author of The No Asshole Rule and The Asshole Survival Guide “Ask a Manager is the ultimate playbook for navigating the traditional workforce in a diplomatic but firm way.”—Erin Lowry, author of Broke Millennial: Stop Scraping By and Get Your Financial Life Together

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Real Love is the single most powerful motivator in a leader's toolbox. Clear and unsentimental, this book is required reading for a profitable workplace."-Ken Blanchard, best-selling author of The One Minute Manager In the vast majority of businesses, the expression "People are our most important asset" is little more than a plaque on the wall. The organizations that have actually put this principle to work, however, have demonstrated a consistent advantage over their competitors in the areas of employee retention, innovation, productivity, and profitability. Management experts are finally realizing that the development of "human resources" will be the key to business success in the foreseeable future, and in the words of one reader, "Real Love in the Workplace is the only book that explains what every person in the workplace needs most, as well as what we can do to provide it." We're all instinctively aware that every human being has a primal need for love, but most of us fail to realize that this need continues into the workplace for every manager, direct report, CEO, vendor, consultant, board member, co-worker, and customer. If we don't address that primal need, all our attempts to optimize business indicators-productivity and profitability, for example-will be frustrated to a significant degree. If we do address that uniquely human need-if we do what's necessary to produce happy employees, managers, and customers-profits will naturally follow. In Real Love in the Workplace, you will learn: - How to become the kind of leader people will want to follow. - How to create customers who are not just satisfied but eager to stay with your company. - How to create a workplace with communicative, creative, cooperative, happy employees. - How to eliminate-not just manage-conflict in the workplace. - How to correct behaviors in a way that people will be eager to hear it.

Thomas may not climb the Himalayas or search for sunken treasure, but she's always ready to take on the forces of nature working through her life and her relationships. In The Longest Adventure, Thomas shares her life adventure, beginning with her birth in 1929. Growing up in a warm, self-reliant, Yiddish-speaking community in Winnipeg, Canada. She became aware early on of the world her parents came from and the wider world around her she could move into if she tried. Leaving both a religious and richly cultural community for an operatic career with the Arts Council Opera Group and the Glyndebourne Opera Festival in Great Britain, she discovered the richness to be found in the music of the great composers and became a promoter of this art form for the rest of her working years. Marriage to a Welsh teacher of English and a seeker of his own spiritual path in Subud and motherhood with five gifted children was followed by entrepreneurial social work in the creation and development of a community cultural organization, the Preville Fine Arts Centre. She served as chairwoman of the regional school commission that introduced the French immersion program to Canada. This memoir narrates the adventurous story of one woman who took a leap from one world to another, a plunge from one career to another, and a step from religion to humanism.
