Book Human Geography in Western Europe

Download or read book Human Geography in Western Europe written by H. J. Fleure and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-08 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Human Geography in Western Europe: A Study in Appreciation This book contains a selection of the con tents of lectures and discussions in a class in Human Geography at Aberystwyth during the last ten years. In such Work as this every limitation of the Writer inevitably makes itself felt, and yet, as it is of the nature of an appreciation rather than of a professedly complete study, the personal note is a necessity. It may be said to be an early draft of an attempt to appreciate the genius loci of some of the human groups Which have become accustomed to live and act as such in Western Europe. It tries to visualise those groups with their varied racial elements making their several contributions Within each, While the group as a Whole in turn makes its cumulative contribution to What may become a community of civilisation. The effort is therefore made to study human experience in each region in concrete fashion, With attention directed continuously both to man and to his environment, and this, it is urged, is an essential task of the geographer. The schools are open to all, and everyone who is able and, willing to work hard may have the advantages of the highest and best education. Each one will have the responsibility of citizenship in a great nation. To fulfill the responsibility of citizenship, to help the home community, the state, and the nation, each one of us should understand the geography of this country; and at this time, when the United States of America is taking a larger and larger part in affairs of world-wide importance, it is more necessary than ever before that We know also the geography of other countries. Variety in physical and human geography. Some parts of the United States are warm and other parts are cold; some are well watered and forested, others have a moderate rainfall and are grasslands; and still others are very dry. In some sections of the country there are plains, in some parts there are plateaus, and in other parts there are mountains. See map opposite page 82. Vast areas of rich soils. Have led to farming, and the extensive grasslands have invited many to raise cattle, horses, and sheep. The wonderful supplies of coal, oil, gas, and water-power', together with iron, copper, lead, and zinc, have made possible a most re markable industrial development. People living on the coast, where there are good harbors, have very natu rally become interested in commerce, and throughout the land many are engaged in trade and transportation. Because the physical geography differs so widely in the many sections, the human geography varies also. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Human Geography in the Air Age a Text for High School Students Classic Reprint

Download or read book Human Geography in the Air Age a Text for High School Students Classic Reprint written by George T. Renner and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-04 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Human Geography in the Air Age, (a d104 for High School Students) To name all the men, women, schools, aviation industries and authorities, publishers, representatives of colleges, universities, school systems, non-profit institutions and agencies of State and Federal Governments who made possible the air-age education series would be a difficult task. In individual books, authors have acknowledged assistance and advice from many sources. Yet the series owes its existence more particularly to a few individuals and organizations. Special acknowledgments are due to Mr. Robert H. Hinckley, who, as Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Air, was the pioneer advocate of air-conditioning America; to Mr. C. I. Stanton, Ad ministrator of the Civil Aeronautics Administration, who gave essential support to a program of aviation-education research; to Mr. Bruce Uthus of the Civil Aeronautics Administration, whose encouragement, resourcefulness, and ability so largely account for the development of the air-age education series to Dr. John W. Studebaker, United States Commissioner of Education, who has done much to prepare American education to meet the challenge of the air age; to Professor N. L. Engelhardt, Teachers College, Columbia University, and his colleagues, who guided the develop ment of materials reflected in this book and related teaching materials; and, finally, to Teachers College, Columbia University for the provision of indispensable office space, library, and other research facilities. Book Home Geography and World Relations Classic Reprint

Download or read book Home Geography and World Relations Classic Reprint written by Richard Elwood Dodge and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2016-11-02 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Home Geography and World Relations The purpose has been to show the relation of the individual pupil to all parts of his own country, and thereby to emphasize the interdependence of people commercially and industrially. Any treatment of Home Geography must be general in order to make it true for all children in all localities. In the suggestive questions, however, an effort has been made to localize the Home Geography for the individual pupil. He is asked to study his own environment and to explain its geography by the universal facts presented in the text. Not every geographical fact that can be illustrated in the home environment is legitimate material for a beginner's course, because many facts and relations are so obscure or complex that they cannot be analyzed by beginners. Furthermore, it is impossible to construct a text beginning with the physical features of the environment because there is no one feature that is equally personal and impressive to all pupils in all localities. Hitherto Home Geography has been treated in an artificial order, and there has been no attempt to relate the facts and principles, so that the pupil passes unconsciously and without a break in continuity of thought from one topic to the next. It is believed that the plan of procedure here followed avoids these difficulties and that any teacher can follow the order of the text without feeling that there are any illogical breaks. Download or read book New Physical Geography Classic Reprint written by Ralph S. Tarr and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-12-02 with total page 718 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from New Physical Geography As aids to the study of the text, a brief Summary is given at the close of each section, and a Topical Outline and a set of Review Questions are placed at the end of each chapter. It is believed that the great majority of teachers will wel come these aids. No teacher will, of course, be content to follow the questions absolutely and without modification; the individuality of the teacher will appear here, as else where. But these summaries, topics, and questions cover the essentials in the text; and their use as a basis for work, with such modifications and additions as may be deemed necessary, will be a far lighter task than the production of an entire series by the teacher. Thus, relieved of a form of drudgery, time will be available for the expenditure of energy in more profitable lines.
