Book excerpt: There are infinite possibilities of what can be done with tie-dye. This book provides detailed premium color pictures and step-by-step instruction on how to tie and dye the intricate star pattern. Whether you are a production dyer or a hobbyist, you'll find plenty of useful information in this book. Its step-by-step instruction makes it easy to follow, and its detail will make it the reference book on tie-dyeing stars for a long time to come. Includes details of how to choose colors, how to mix dyes in a production environment, washing and care instructions for Procion dye tie-dyes, and more. After some background and history, we'll go into tying stars, starting with some necessary tools. The book gives a detailed step-by-step tutorial on how to tie a star on a t-shirt, followed by how to tie a star on a tapestry. In the section on Dyeing Stars, it shows the tools and how to modify them to make them easier to work with. Then it goes into detail about how to dye a rainbow star shirt with what might be the best set of pictures about this anywhere. From there we move on to dyeing a raspberry-lavender-turquoise (RLT) star. These techniques can be applied to many color combinations and the book gives a list of color sequences to try. Then we'll move on to tapestries and follow the same order with a rainbow and a raspberry-lavender-turquoise tapestry. The next part will cover dyeing backgrounds, then a section on fixing mistakes, and lastly a list of suppliers. The author was a production tie-dyer for over 35 years and made thousands of unique tie-dyes during his career. He invented new tools, applicators, patterns, color-combinations, and ways to increase production to save time and money.

Book excerpt: A heartwarming, hilarious Christmas story with a Southern twist. Like most things in Ellery, Tennessee, this year’s Drive Thru Nativity is a little unconventional. The Dollar General parking lot doubles as a Bethlehem stable, and widowed writer Ivy Long, who’s been roped into playing Mary, sure as heck isn’t a virgin. But then comes an unexpected development: a genuine, real-life baby left in the manger, with only a brief note. And somehow, in the kerfuffle that follows, Ivy finds her life is about to change . . . The holidays are a bittersweet time for Ivy—filled with memories of her beloved late husband and reminders that life doesn’t always offer the happily-ever-afters her readers expect. So when Ivy ends up with custody of the baby, she can only chalk it up to a Christmas miracle. She doesn’t know if it will be forever, but with help from family, she’ll make little Zuzu’s first Christmas a good one. The nativity’s Joseph, aka Gabe Ledbetter, has a pediatrics background that’s coming in mighty handy. In turn, Ivy is helping Gabe find his place in the quirky community. If that place turns out to be somewhere near Ivy, well, maybe this particular Christmas story will turn out to be merry and bright after all . . . Praise for Sally Kilpatrick’s Previous Novels “Do yourself a favor and grab this book and hide away with its laugh-out-loud and cry-out-loud moments all mixed up in one place.” —Patti Callahan Henry, New York Times bestselling author “Don't miss this quirky, fun love story. I couldn't put it down.” —Haywood Smith, New York Times bestselling author on Better Get to Livin’ “A pleasantly engaging take on Romeo and Juliet.” —Library Journal on Bittersweet Creek

Book excerpt: Being a goddess is a lot less fun than you might think. Especially when you’re only a half goddess, and you only found out about it recently, and you still don’t know what you’re doing half the time. And when you’ve just used your not-so-reliable powers to burglarize the booby-trapped office of a vampire mob boss. Yeah, that part sucks. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg for Cassandra Palmer, aka the Pythia, the freshly minted chief seer of the supernatural world. After all, Cassie still has to save a friend from a fate worse than death, deal with an increasingly possessive master vampire, and prevent a party of her own acolytes from unleashing a storm of fury upon the world. Totally just your average day at the office, right?
