Book How to Solve the Lack of Volatility in the Standard MP Model

Download or read book How to Solve the Lack of Volatility in the Standard MP Model written by Kathrin Tiecke and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2011 with total page 65 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Research Paper (undergraduate) from the year 2009 in the subject Economics - Macro-economics, general, grade: 2,3, Humboldt-University of Berlin (Wirtschaftstheorie II (Makro)), course: Arbeitsmarktökonomik, language: English, abstract: The standard search and matching model (D. Mortensen and C.Pissarides,1994; Pissarides, 2000) has been recently challanged by many economists. The Mortensen-Pissarides (1994) model in general says that it takes time to match jobs and workers, which causes unemployment as an outcome of market frictions. The volatility of unemployment fluctuations in the model is not corresponding to the baseline calibration that R. Shimer (2005) has found for the US data. Many authors modified the model in order to solve this lack of volatility. First I introduce the Mortensen-Pissarides model to refer in the second part to the models parameters. Next, I present solutions found by Hall (2005) who solves the model via rigid wage setting and Hagedorn and Manovskii(2005) who provide a small surplus calibration to overcome the lack in volatility of the labor market variables. According to the so called "Shimer Puzzle" I will present shortly the findings of Gartner, Merkl and Rothe (2009), who calibrate the key labor market variables over the business cycle for the West-German labor market. Further I introduce Morensen and Nagypál (2007) publications on an amneded version of the model and a model with endogenous separations.

Book The Heston Model and its Extensions in Matlab and C

Download or read book The Heston Model and its Extensions in Matlab and C written by Fabrice D. Rouah and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2013-08-01 with total page 437 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tap into the power of the most popular stochastic volatility model for pricing equity derivatives Since its introduction in 1993, the Heston model has become a popular model for pricing equity derivatives, and the most popular stochastic volatility model in financial engineering. This vital resource provides a thorough derivation of the original model, and includes the most important extensions and refinements that have allowed the model to produce option prices that are more accurate and volatility surfaces that better reflect market conditions. The book's material is drawn from research papers and many of the models covered and the computer codes are unavailable from other sources. The book is light on theory and instead highlights the implementation of the models. All of the models found here have been coded in Matlab and C#. This reliable resource offers an understanding of how the original model was derived from Ricatti equations, and shows how to implement implied and local volatility, Fourier methods applied to the model, numerical integration schemes, parameter estimation, simulation schemes, American options, the Heston model with time-dependent parameters, finite difference methods for the Heston PDE, the Greeks, and the double Heston model. A groundbreaking book dedicated to the exploration of the Heston model—a popular model for pricing equity derivatives Includes a companion website, which explores the Heston model and its extensions all coded in Matlab and C# Written by Fabrice Douglas Rouah a quantitative analyst who specializes in financial modeling for derivatives for pricing and risk management Engaging and informative, this is the first book to deal exclusively with the Heston Model and includes code in Matlab and C# for pricing under the model, as well as code for parameter estimation, simulation, finite difference methods, American options, and more.

Book Numerical Methods and Optimization in Finance

Download or read book Numerical Methods and Optimization in Finance written by Manfred Gilli and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2019-08-16 with total page 640 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Computationally-intensive tools play an increasingly important role in financial decisions. Many financial problems—ranging from asset allocation to risk management and from option pricing to model calibration—can be efficiently handled using modern computational techniques. Numerical Methods and Optimization in Finance presents such computational techniques, with an emphasis on simulation and optimization, particularly so-called heuristics. This book treats quantitative analysis as an essentially computational discipline in which applications are put into software form and tested empirically. This revised edition includes two new chapters, a self-contained tutorial on implementing and using heuristics, and an explanation of software used for testing portfolio-selection models. Postgraduate students, researchers in programs on quantitative and computational finance, and practitioners in banks and other financial companies can benefit from this second edition of Numerical Methods and Optimization in Finance. - Introduces numerical methods to readers with economics backgrounds - Emphasizes core simulation and optimization problems - Includes MATLAB and R code for all applications, with sample code in the text and freely available for download

Book Capital Flows in a Transitional Economy and the Sterilization Dilemma

Download or read book Capital Flows in a Transitional Economy and the Sterilization Dilemma written by Mr.Pierre L. Siklos and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 1996-08-01 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper compares Hungary’s experience with sterilization with that of other capital inflow episodes. The study focuses on the short-run impact of sterilization on monetary policy. The empirical data indicate that sterilized interventions by the National Bank of Hungary (NBH) were not significant until mid-1994, sometime after the return to power of the former Communist leaders. Thus, in the second half of 1994, the NBH began to demonstrate more firmly its independence by tightening monetary policy. By the beginning of 1995, the direction of fiscal policy had begun to show consonance with the overall aims of monetary policy.

Book Financial Markets Liberalisation and the Role of Banks

Download or read book Financial Markets Liberalisation and the Role of Banks written by Vittorio Conti and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1993-02-04 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Following years of control and regulation, there has been a massive trend towards the liberalisation of financial markets. This volume provides an analysis of this process and considers likely future developments. It is divided into three parts: the first covers the behaviour of households and firms; the second includes papers on stock, bond and currency markets; and the third part analyses the behaviour and performance of financial intermediaries, particularly banks. The topics examined range from the demand for personal and corporate credit and the allocation of savers' wealth, to innovations in securities and services traded in financial markets, and their regulation. The essays represent a blend of both theoretical and empirical work, the latter focusing in particular on Europe and the recent integration of financial markets on the continent. Discussions of the essays are provided by some of the world's leading financial economists.

Book Trade Options with an Edge

Download or read book Trade Options with an Edge written by Dr. Russell Richards and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2017-01-23 with total page 416 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Would you like to have success in trading options much like the success of a casino that consistently grinds out profits each day? Casinos are successful because they have a definite probability edge on every gambling opportunity that they offer. They rely on the law of large numbers to guarantee that their probability edge will produce profits. When trading options, you can also do this if you have an edge. This book will show you how to get an edge in your options trading. Then, like the casinos, your edge will translate into small but consistent gains. The book will show you how to best exploit your edge, and it will guide you in the selection of the equity that you trade, selection of the strategy, selection of the strikes and expiration cycle, sizing and placing the trade, monitoring progress, and managing the trade. The book covers basic information about options including all of the common strategies, the option pricing model, and the greeks. It then discusses six sources of edge for sellers of option premium. Then it shows the reader how to select equities that take advantage of the combined edge, how to decide on the best strategy, how to determine the risk and to size the trade, how to place the order, and how to monitor and manage the trade. Each decision can be totally mechanical, based on the values of one or more metrics. And the software provided with the book computes all of the metrics that you will need. If you follow the approach described in this book, I believe you will be able to achieve profits of 1 percent to 2 percent or more each month in markets that are moving up, down, or going nowhere.
