Book excerpt: Learn that being an incumbent for our United States Congress is not listed in the Constitution. It does not say or get re-elected. It specifically says chosen for six years. It then says that the seats of the senators "shall be vacated at the Expiration of their "Classes." Finally the secret is out. We have term limits and it was reinforced with the with the 17th Amendment "The Senate of the United States shall be composed of two Senators from each State, elected by the people thereof, for six years; and each Senator shall have one vote." The constitution also does not mention the two party system. That has not upheld this clear, concise portion of the Law of how government is to operate.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "How To Replace Congress" takes a closer look at our Constitution and Bill of Rights. It's 2018, which for most folks, doesn't mean much. That is because most of us don't perform our job based on a two-year or six-year cycle. These even-numbered years may be the difference between another payout of $1,044,000.00, or the expiry of extraordinarily luxurious work conditions, amazing perks, and extended holidays. On June 21, 1788, the die-hard words, "We the People of the United States", were first scripted by our founding fathers. The United States Constitution was created as the document of supreme law, and a blueprint for how our people and country should be governed. We have come a long way since that hot summer when the sovereignty of our country was signed and sealed, but our Constitution has been used both as a beacon of light for democracy and as a tool of corruption and control. You may be surprised to hear that there are several parts of our Constitution that have been ignored and not enforced for decades. There is a critical and primary question that one must consider, in order to understand how profoundly our governing system has been misused and misunderstood. Did you know our United States Senators were set up into three classes? There are 33 - Class I, 33 - Class II, and 34 - Class III Senators. That comes to 100 Senators - two per state - and no state has two Senators from the same class. Which brings up a second important question: Why did the Constitution dictate that we should separate our Senators into three classes? Upon further research, the logic becomes crystal clear. This was done so that one-third of the Senate would be replaced every two years. According to the Constitution, every even-numbered year we have an entire class of Senators that need to vacate their office and not get re-elected. In November of 2018, 33 Class I Senate seats expire. In November of 2020, 33 Class II Senate seats expire. Then in 2022, 34 Class III Senate seats expire and their entire class is up for grabs; this was done so we should replace an entire class or one third of all Senators on even numbered years. Our nations government is outlined to be run by the rotation of public servants. It was not designed for a political party, special interest groups, big money, or people who go against the rules to stay in Congress for longer than six years. If we were to vote as patriots, with the true interests of our country at heart and not as loyalists whose interests are limited to those of one party or another, then we could actually help to instill morality back into Americas government. This may be easier said than done as roughly 40% of current voters have aligned themselves as loyalist with a political party. However, if we used a rule of "Six Years & Out of Politics" for everyone in any public office, it wouldn't require us to partake in the age-old party rivalry that has divided our country for decades and continues to instill separatism into our united nation. We need to remember that the word politician is a borrowed word from Greece and does not belong in American government. We need to remind our "elected/selected" officials they are public servants while in office. By observing the Constitutional mandate of six-year term limits, we would be helping to purge old-school thoughts from our legislative branch. Using this method would make lobbying and PAC money obsolete. It would also help to bring morality in America's government back to the core of patriotism and freedom that we are so sorely lacking today. God Bless America.

Book Is Congress Broken

Download or read book Is Congress Broken written by Gary J. Schmitt and published by Brookings Institution Press. This book was released on 2017-03-21 with total page 267 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: " Making Congress Work, Again, Within the Constitutional System Congress for many years has ranked low in public esteem—joining journalists, bankers, and union leaders at the bottom of polls. And in recent years there's been good reason for the public disregard, with the rise of hyper-partisanship and the increasing inability of Congress to carry out its required duties, such as passing spending bills on time and conducting responsible oversight of the executive branch. Congress seems so dysfunctional that many observers have all but thrown up their hands in despair, suggesting that an apparently broken U.S. political system might need to be replaced. Now, some of the country's foremost experts on Congress are reminding us that tough hyper-partisan conflict always has been a hallmark of the constitutional system. Going back to the nation's early decades, Congress has experienced periods of division and turmoil. But even in those periods Congress has been able to engage in serious deliberation, prevent ill-considered proposals from becoming law—and, over time, help develop a deeper, more lasting national consensus. The ten chapters in this volume focus on how Congress in the twenty-first century can once again fulfill its proper functions of representation, deliberation, legislation, and oversight. The authors offer a series of practical reforms that would maintain, rather than replace, the constitutional separation of powers that has served the nation well for more than 200 years. "

Download or read book Constitutional Cliffhangers written by Brian C. Kalt and published by Yale University Press. This book was released on 2012-01-24 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The United States Constitution's provisions for selecting, replacing, and punishing presidents contain serious weaknesses that could lead to constitutional controversies. In this compelling and fascinating book, Brian Kalt envisions six such controversies, such as the criminal prosecution of a sitting president, a two-term president's attempt to stay in power, the ousting of an allegedly disabled president, and more. None of these things has ever occurred, but in recent years many of them almost have. Besides being individually dramatic, these controversies provide an opportunity to think about how constitutional procedures can best be designed, interpreted, and repaired. Also, because the events Kalt describes would all carry enormous political consequences, they shed light on the delicate and complicated balance between law and politics in American government.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The extraordinary nature of the Trump presidency has spawned a resurgence in the study of the presidency and a rising concern about the power of the office. In Power Shifts: Congress and Presidential Representation, John Dearborn explores the development of the idea of the representative presidency, that the president alone is elected by a national constituency, and thus the only part of government who can represent the nation against the parochial concerns of members of Congress, and its relationship to the growth of presidential power in the 20th century. Dearborn asks why Congress conceded so much power to the Chief Executive, with the support of particularly conservative members of the Supreme Court. He discusses the debates between Congress and the Executive and the arguments offered by politicians, scholars, and members of the judiciary about the role of the president in the American state. He asks why so many bought into the idea of the representative, and hence, strong presidency despite unpopular wars, failed foreign policies, and parochial actions that favor only the president's supporters. This is a book about the power of ideas in the development of the American state"--
