Download or read book How To Make A Feature Film For Less Than A Grand The Making of Dark Matter written by Mol Smith and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2014-10-30 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many books exist to help film makers create their feature films, especially on low budgets. My one tells you how to do it without harping on about things you don't need to know and are probably out-of-date. This book is about how I made two feature films - one called 'Tainted Love', the other called 'Dark Matter'. Both are available on streaming sites like Vimeo On Demand. The second film, I decided to cut through all the filming processes with a sharp knife. As an analyst for many years looking at processes for one of the largest companies in the UK, I could see glaring issues in why it was so difficult to finance and make my first movie. I decided to plan and make a top-notch looking movie for just £1000. This is much less than most people look for to make a 10 minute short, let alone a well made full length feature. I did it. I can't say it was easy, but I wrote it, produced it, directed it, shot it, and edited it. And... I financed it! You can do it too. My book tells it the way it is: the problems I encountered, their solutions, every aspect. It includes the script too so you can understand the movie against how it was written. You will find out how to edit without an expensive editing suite, what minimum gear you need to shoot it, and all the forms to help you plan it and shoot your movie via a link published inside. Nothing is hidden. There is no arty hedonistic dialogue, no regurgitating of 'Film-School' processes -- just practical easy to understand cut-to-the-chase method. A proven method. My method. You can do 3 years plus in a film school for thousands of pounds, wait years afterwards trying to get a chance to make a film, or you can wise-up, step up, read my book, watch my movie and have yours in the can within a year or less. And all that for less than £20. Three years ago, I'd never made a film. I have now produced 2 feature films, and 6 shorts, all inside 3 years. I never went to film school. I'm not boasting. I'm saying there is nothing gifted or talented about me. If I can do it, if I can learn and achieve it from scratch, so can you. I bought all the books at the start too. Few of them really helped. Most of them were out of date and out of time due to the rapidly advancing technologies at our disposal. Mine is bang up to now! You don't have to dream about making a movie any longer, you can simply do it! It isn't the money you need: it's the method!

Download or read book Energy and Civilization written by Vaclav Smil and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2018-11-13 with total page 564 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A comprehensive account of how energy has shaped society throughout history, from pre-agricultural foraging societies through today's fossil fuel–driven civilization. "I wait for new Smil books the way some people wait for the next 'Star Wars' movie. In his latest book, Energy and Civilization: A History, he goes deep and broad to explain how innovations in humans' ability to turn energy into heat, light, and motion have been a driving force behind our cultural and economic progress over the past 10,000 years. —Bill Gates, Gates Notes, Best Books of the Year Energy is the only universal currency; it is necessary for getting anything done. The conversion of energy on Earth ranges from terra-forming forces of plate tectonics to cumulative erosive effects of raindrops. Life on Earth depends on the photosynthetic conversion of solar energy into plant biomass. Humans have come to rely on many more energy flows—ranging from fossil fuels to photovoltaic generation of electricity—for their civilized existence. In this monumental history, Vaclav Smil provides a comprehensive account of how energy has shaped society, from pre-agricultural foraging societies through today's fossil fuel–driven civilization. Humans are the only species that can systematically harness energies outside their bodies, using the power of their intellect and an enormous variety of artifacts—from the simplest tools to internal combustion engines and nuclear reactors. The epochal transition to fossil fuels affected everything: agriculture, industry, transportation, weapons, communication, economics, urbanization, quality of life, politics, and the environment. Smil describes humanity's energy eras in panoramic and interdisciplinary fashion, offering readers a magisterial overview. This book is an extensively updated and expanded version of Smil's Energy in World History (1994). Smil has incorporated an enormous amount of new material, reflecting the dramatic developments in energy studies over the last two decades and his own research over that time.
