Book How to Increase Your Situational Awareness Skills

Download or read book How to Increase Your Situational Awareness Skills written by Dueep Jyot Singh and published by Mendon Cottage Books. This book was released on 2017-04-03 with total page 54 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Table of Contents Introduction Recounting Your Memories And Reaffirming Them Recounting Your Powers of Observation Instinctive Readiness and Quick Action Awareness and Fear Make the Night Your Friend Navigating Instinctively The Observe, Orient, Decide, and Act Strategy Awareness of Your Surroundings Acting on Instinct Behavioral Patterns Conclusion Author Bio Publisher Introduction A number of years ago I was just reminiscing about some survival skills, we had learned as children, instinctively, and with a little bit of practice, and I was surprised to find that these skills are now being taught as situational awareness skills. I was under the impression that they were natural skills, being taught to children, and not something which was supposedly special! Nevertheless, this book is going to give you plenty of information on how you can develop these skills in order to be aware of everything, in different situations, indoors and outdoors. In ancient times and in many civilizations, it was necessary for every child to be well trained in situational awareness, because that was the difference between survival or a future ending up as a saber tooth's dinner. Even up to 200 years ago, parents taught their children how to survive in the woods because it was a part of their training and upbringing. Even a little child knew the difference between keeping really quiet, and chattering away in the woods, when one was hunting. I was reading a book about a girl, whose father was a missionary, and who lived near Native American tribes, throughout her childhood and youth. She was semi adopted by the Native Americans, and given a name of Bright Shining Light, because of her golden hair and happy and sunny nature. She spent most of her time with the Sioux, learning their ways, an activity which was encouraged by her father and discouraged by her mother who was definitely not cut out to be a brave, pioneering, courageous woman, if we went by her whining, complaining, and general disinclination to know anything about a great nation, their people, their culture, because she had learned that they were pagans, heathens, and savages. Nevertheless, this little girl saw a baby being cuddled by its grandmother, and the moment he began to make a noise, the grandmother placed a hand lightly over its mouth. That was because existence for these people was so precarious, that a slight sound could make the difference between life and death, especially when they were hiding from their enemies. The baby soon learned that it was not to make any noise under any circumstances. It was only a couple of days old. So its traditional training began as soon as the elders of the tribe knew that it was healthy enough to survive.

Book Tactical Display for Soldiers

Download or read book Tactical Display for Soldiers written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 1997-01-17 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the human factors issues associated with the development, testing, and implementation of helmet-mounted display technology in the 21st Century Land Warrior System. Because the framework of analysis is soldier performance with the system in the full range of environments and missions, the book discusses both the military context and the characteristics of the infantry soldiers who will use the system. The major issues covered include the positive and negative effects of such a display on the local and global situation awareness of the individual soldier, an analysis of the visual and psychomotor factors associated with each design feature, design considerations for auditory displays, and physical sources of stress and the implications of the display for affecting the soldier's workload. The book proposes an innovative approach to research and testing based on a three-stage strategy that begins in the laboratory, moves to controlled field studies, and culminates in operational testing.

Book excerpt: An engrossing guide to seeing—and communicating—more clearly from the groundbreaking course that helps FBI agents, cops, CEOs, ER docs, and others save money, reputations, and lives. How could looking at Monet’s water lily paintings help save your company millions? How can checking out people’s footwear foil a terrorist attack? How can your choice of adjective win an argument, calm your kid, or catch a thief? In her celebrated seminar, the Art of Perception, art historian Amy Herman has trained experts from many fields how to perceive and communicate better. By showing people how to look closely at images, she helps them hone their “visual intelligence,” a set of skills we all possess but few of us know how to use properly. She has spent more than a decade teaching doctors to observe patients instead of their charts, helping police officers separate facts from opinions when investigating a crime, and training professionals from the FBI, the State Department, Fortune 500 companies, and the military to recognize the most pertinent and useful information. Her lessons highlight far more than the physical objects you may be missing; they teach you how to recognize the talents, opportunities, and dangers that surround you every day. Whether you want to be more effective on the job, more empathetic toward your loved ones, or more alert to the trove of possibilities and threats all around us, this book will show you how to see what matters most to you more clearly than ever before. Please note: this ebook contains full-color art reproductions and photographs, and color is at times essential to the observation and analysis skills discussed in the text. For the best reading experience, this ebook should be viewed on a color device.

At the individual soldier level, the topics covered include attention, learning, memory, decisionmaking, perception, situation awareness, and planning. Book Designing for Situation Awareness

Download or read book Designing for Situation Awareness written by Mica R. Endsley and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2003-07-17 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Enhancing Situation Awareness (SA) is a major design goal for projects in many fields, including aviation, ground transportation, air traffic control, nuclear power, and medicine, but little information exists in an integral format to support this goal. Designing for Situation Awareness helps designers understand how people acquire and interpret information in complex settings and recognize the factors that undermine this process. Designing to support operator SA reduces the incidence of human error, which has been found to occur largely due to failures in SA. Whereas many previous human factors efforts have focused on design at the perceptual and surface feature level, SA-oriented design focuses on the operator's information needs and cognitive processes as they juggle to integrate information from many sources and achieve multiple competing goals. Thus it addresses design from a system's perspective. By applying theoretical and empirical information on SA to the system design process, human factors practitioners can create designs to support SA across a wide variety of domains and design issues. This book serves as a helpful reference to that end.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During natural disasters, disease pandemics, terrorist attacks, and other public health emergencies, the health system must be prepared to accommodate a surge in the number of individuals seeking medical help. For the health community, a primary concern is how to provide care to individuals during such high demand, when the health system's resources are exhausted and there are more patients than the system can accommodate. The IOM's Forum on Medical and Public Health Preparedness for Catastrophic Events held a workshop June 10-11, 2009, to assess the capability of and tools available to federal, state, and local governments to respond to a medical surge. In addition, participants discussed strategies for the public and private sectors to improve preparedness for such a surge. The workshop brought together leaders in the medical and public health preparedness fields, including policy makers from federal agencies and state and local public health departments; providers from the health care community; and health care and hospital administrators. This document summarizes the workshop.
