Download or read book Frozen in Time written by Michael Oard and published by New Leaf Publishing Group. This book was released on 2004 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Earth's past is littered with the mysterious and unexplained: the pyramids, Easter Island, Stonehenge, dinosaurs, and the list goes on and on as science looks for clues to decipher these puzzles. One such mystery surrounds the now-extinct creature called the woolly mammoth. Author and meteorologist Michael Oard has studied the mammoth and its equally mysterious time period, the Ice Age, for many years and has come to some fascinating conclusions to help lift the fog engulfing the facts. Some of the questions he addresses include:What would cause the summer temperatures of the northern United States and European to plummet more than 50 degrees Fahrenheit? Why did mammoths become extinct across the entire earth at the same time as many other large mammals? Why are the mammoth carcasses found generally in standing positions? How could large lakes exist in what are today very dry, desert-like places? What was the source of the abnormal of moisture necessary for heavy snow? What caused the cold summer temperatures and heavy snowfall to persist for hundreds of years? In logical progression many other Ice Age topics are explained including super Ice Age floods, ice cores, man in the Ice Age, and the number of ice ages. This is one of the most difficult eras in geological history for a uniformitarian scientist (one who believes the earth evolved by slow processes over millions of years) to explain, simply because long ages of evolution cannot explain it. Provided here are plausible explanations of the seemingly unsolvable mysterious about the Ice Age and the woolly mammoths - Frozen in Time.

Download or read book The Mammoth Book of Ghost Stories by Women written by Marie O'Regan and published by Robinson. This book was released on 2012-10-18 with total page 370 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 25 chilling short stories by outstanding female writers. Women have always written exceptional stories of horror and the supernatural. This anthology aims to showcase the very best of these, from Amelia B. Edwards's 'The Phantom Coach', published in 1864, through past luminaries such as Edith Wharton and Mary Elizabeth Braddon, to modern talents including Muriel Gray, Sarah Pinborough and Lilith Saintcrow. From tales of ghostly children to visitations by departed loved ones, and from heart-rending stories to the profoundly unsettling depiction of extreme malevolence, what each of these stories has in common is the effect of a slight chilling of the skin, a feeling of something not quite present, but nevertheless there. If anything, this showcase anthology proves that sometimes the female of the species can also be the most terrifying . . .
Download or read book Extinctions written by Charles Frankel and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 2024 with total page 287 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "A distinguished geologist and a popular science writer Charles Frankel turns his attention in his latest book to the mass extinctions on our planet, considering what the past can tell us about the future. Explaining Earth's past mass extinctions, Frankel suggests that, each time, a decrease in biodiversity created fragile conditions that eventuated into widespread and cataclysmic disappearances. The rise of mammals led to the rise of humans, who, over the past 200,000 years, have become their own geological force, forever affecting the bio-environment, from the massacre of megafauna in the Ice Age to the impoverishment of soils and pollution of waterways and air, to the unwitting transfer of invasive species from one part of the globe to another. After a compelling account of the latest research, Frankel ends with speculations on planetary peril and whether the widespread extinctions, climate change, and loss of biodiversity that we are currently experiencing can be slowed or even reversed. His answer inspires hope and urgency. If humans can redirect and curb some of our basic behaviors (like the obsession to kill and consume other species), we might stand a chance. Still, he eloquently explains that, even if we succeed in this, our way of life and even some of our ways of being human will be transformed forever. As extinction repeatedly shows those who survive, life is not eternal"--

Download or read book BLOOD ON YOUR HANDS written by David A Swincer and published by INTEGRITY PUBLICATIONS. This book was released on with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I have always been challenged about the need to be ready to share the Gospel, but I am not an evangelist, although like Paul told Timothy, do the work of an evangelist (2 Timothy 4:5), so I feel the need to at least be ready: 15But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. ALWAYS BE PREPARED to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, 1 Peter 3:15, emphases added. I am commissioned—as a Christian—to be responsible in sharing the Gospel. God spoke to Ezekiel and enunciated the principal of the responsibility of those appointed to be “watchmen” for others: 17“Son of man, I have made you a watchman for the people of Israel; so hear the word I speak and give them warning from me. 18When I say to a wicked person, ‘You will surely die,’ and you do not warn them or speak out to dissuade them from their evil ways in order to save their life, that wicked person will die for their sin, and I will HOLD YOU ACCOUNTABLE FOR THEIR BLOOD. 19But if you do warn the wicked person and they do not turn from their wickedness or from their evil ways, they will die for their sin; but you will have saved yourself. Ezekiel 3:17-19, emphasis added. Whilst the passage relates to Ezekiel’s responsibility to Israel, the principle is inescapable as it relates to my call to intervene on behalf of others who are dying—going to a Christless eternity. It is the last phrase of the quote that haunts me: I will hold you accountable for their blood. I confess that I don’t know exactly what that means, but you don’t have to be very smart to realise that there is a serious accountability. Whatever it is, I don’t want to have Blood on My Hands. * * * * *
