This book was released on 2021-11-05 with total page 1139 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is not a "get-rich-quick" book. It is a work to teach people how to get a livelihood. Of course, a great many people who commence in business through reading this book, and adopting one or more of the plans, will naturally push ahead and accumulate wealth. That, however, is not the object of the book. The author maintains, as all decent citizens must believe, that every soul on this planet has a right to a decent existence. But it grieves him to see so many people, young and old, foot-sick, walking about looking for a "job," which employers of labor are unable to offer. There is work everywhere to be done, and this book tells how to go about it. It is a book that should be in every public reference library in the country, for the use of those who are unable to buy it.

Download or read book The Women s Movement and Women s Employment in Nineteenth Century Britain written by Ellen Jordan and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2002-01-04 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the first half of the nineteenth century the main employments open to young women in Britain were in teaching, dressmaking, textile manufacture and domestic service. After 1850, however, young women began to enter previously all-male areas like medicine, pharmacy, librarianship, the civil service, clerical work and hairdressing, or areas previously restricted to older women like nursing, retail work and primary school teaching. This book examines the reasons for this change. The author argues that the way femininity was defined in the first half of the century blinded employers in the new industries to the suitability of young female labour. This definition of femininity was, however, contested by certain women who argued that it not only denied women the full use of their talents but placed many of them in situations of economic insecurity. This was a particular concern of the Womens Movement in its early decades and their first response was a redefinition of feminity and the promotion of academic education for girls. The author demonstrates that as a result of these efforts, employers in the areas targeted began to see the advantages of employing young women, and young women were persuaded that working outside the home would not endanger their femininity.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This irreverent manifesto sparked both conversation and controversy when it made its debut as a hardcover in 2009. From essays in The Wall Street Journal to debates in the blogosphere, women weighed in on the book's provocative message, which ultimately challenges the ideals and assumptions we've blindly accepted about love and marriage. Smart Girls Marry Money is a hard-hitting indictment on society (peppered with plenty of wry observations) that empowers women with a new way to take control of their economic and romantic lives. Now in a paperback edition, there will be more ''smart Girls'' who will join in on the heated debate on how we can make healthier (and wealthier!) marriages.
