Download or read book Mental Reality written by Galen Strawson and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 1994 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Mental Reality, Galen Strawson argues that much contemporary philosophy of mind gives undue primacy of place to publicly observable phenomena, nonmental phenomena, and behavioral phenomena (understood as publicly observable phenomena) in its account of the nature of mind. It does so at the expense of the phenomena of conscious experience. Strawson describes an alternative position, "naturalized Cartesianism," which couples the materialist view that mind is entirely natural and wholly physical with a fully realist account of the nature of conscious experience. Naturalized Cartesianism is an adductive (as opposed to reductive) form of materialism. Adductive materialists don't claim that conscious experience is anything less than we ordinarily conceive it to be, in being wholly physical. They claim instead that the physical is something more than we ordinarily conceive it to be, given that many of the wholly physical goings-on in the brain constitute -- literally are -- conscious experiences as we ordinarily conceive them.
Download or read book How The Mind Works Annotated Edition written by Christian D. Larson and published by Jazzybee Verlag. This book was released on 2012 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Everything that is in action must necessarily work through definite laws. And as the mind is in constant action, alternating its actions at almost every turn of thought or feeling, it is evident that a vast number of laws are employed by the mental process. To know how the mind works, therefore, we must know something about these laws. In these pages the most important of the mental and metaphysical laws known to date are considered from every possible viewpoint, the principal object being to ascertain their real nature as well as their power and use. In addition, a number of psychological ideas are presented that will throw light both on the inner and the outer workings of the mind. This is the annotated edition including an essay about the author and the New Thought Movement in Cincinnati, which he founded.

Download or read book How to Turn Your Desires and Ideals Into Reality written by Brown Landone and published by David De Angelis. This book was released on 2022-01-26 with total page 101 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Brown Landone was one of the first teachers of the scientific understanding of material and immaterial achievements in life. For his first 13 years he lived the usual routine of an invalid. Then his life changed dramatically. Although virtually helpless by many medical accounts, he was able to carry a heavy metal crate down five flights of stairs when he was left alone and a house fire broke out. Afterwards, young Landone knew that his subconscious had made it happen somehow. He figured that if he could do it on a subconscious level, he could certainly do it on a conscious level. This book is an important guide for those who have decided to use the immense power of their Subconscious and make a positive and decisive change in their lives.
Download or read book Image and Reality written by Alan J. Rocke and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 2010-05-15 with total page 403 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nineteenth-century chemists were faced with a particular problem: how to depict the atoms and molecules that are beyond the direct reach of our bodily senses. In visualizing this microworld, these scientists were the first to move beyond high-level philosophical speculations regarding the unseen. In Image and Reality, Alan Rocke focuses on the community of organic chemists in Germany to provide the basis for a fuller understanding of the nature of scientific creativity. Arguing that visual mental images regularly assisted many of these scientists in thinking through old problems and new possibilities, Rocke uses a variety of sources, including private correspondence, diagrams and illustrations, scientific papers, and public statements, to investigate their ability to not only imagine the invisibly tiny atoms and molecules upon which they operated daily, but to build detailed and empirically based pictures of how all of the atoms in complicated molecules were interconnected. These portrayals of “chemical structures,” both as mental images and as paper tools, gradually became an accepted part of science during these years and are now regarded as one of the central defining features of chemistry. In telling this fascinating story in a manner accessible to the lay reader, Rocke also suggests that imagistic thinking is often at the heart of creative thinking in all fields. Image and Reality is the first book in the Synthesis series, a series in the history of chemistry, broadly construed, edited by Angela N. H. Creager, John E. Lesch, Stuart W. Leslie, Lawrence M. Principe, Alan Rocke, E.C. Spary, and Audra J. Wolfe, in partnership with the Chemical Heritage Foundation.
Download or read book Autobiography written by Rudolf Steiner and published by SteinerBooks. This book was released on 2006-05 with total page 623 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 4 lectures, Dornach, June 28 - July 18, 1923 (CW 350) "Truth and striving for truth must taste good to you; and lies, once you are conscious of them, must taste bitter and poisonous. You must not only know that human judgments have color, but also that printer's ink nowadays is mostly deadly nightshade juice. You must be able to experience this in all honesty and rectitude, and once you can do so, you will be in a state of spiritual transformation" (Rudolf Steiner). What is the relationship between coming to see the secrets of the universe and one's own view of the world? How far must one go before finding the higher worlds on the path of natural science? Do cosmic forces influence all of humanity? What connection do plants have with the human being and the human body? In answering these questions, Steiner covers a wide range of topics, from the development of independent thinking and the ability to think backward to the uses of what seems boring and the reversal of thinking between the physical and spiritual worlds, and from the "physiology" of dreams to living into nature and the spiritual dimension of various foods we eat. As always in his lectures to the workers, Steiner's style is clear, direct, and accessible. This volume is a translation from German of four lectures from Rhythmen im Kosmos und im Menschenwesen: Wie kommt man zum Schauen der geistigen Welt? (GA 350).

This book was released on 2019-02-22 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first volume in the Cognitive Computation Trends book series, summarising our understanding on the neural correlate of memory, perception-representation, action, language, emotion and consciousness and their mutual interactions. Integrating research in the field of the Neuroscience, Robotics and Virtual Reality, this book is an original and attainable resource that has not been developed in any other writing. In 5 chapters, the author considers that representations are based on allegorical traces and are consciously and/or unconsciously embrained, and that the creation of robots is the expression of the mind. Whole-body virtual motion is thought of as the archetypal expression of virtual reality. Therefore, visual reality is analysed in a context of visuo-vestibular and somesthetic conflict while mixed and augmented reality are scrutinised in a context of visuo-vestibular and somesthetic interaction. This monograph is an indispensable handbook for students and investigators engaged in history of science, philosophy, psychology, neuroscience, engineering and those interested in there interconnections. The ambition of the book is to give students and investigators ideas on which they can build their future research in this new blooming area.

Download or read book Hearing John s Voice written by M. Eugene Boring and published by Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing. This book was released on 2019-11-05 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is written in the conviction that the church is called into being and nourished by the Word of God that comes through Scripture. But how can Scripture offer any specific guidance for hearers lives today? What are modern readers to make of the dragons and slaughtered lambs in the book of Revelation? What are we to make of a man who turns water into wine while comparing himself to bread? Can people today know what the Bible says and means? The world of the Bible is strange and distant, not only in time and space but also in language, culture, and in its basic assumptions about reality. The first task in both pulpit and pew is not to be in too great a hurry to overcome this distance, but to acknowledge it and respect it. Communication across the gap is the task of the church's preachers and teachers. Drawing on his years of teaching and study, Gene Boring offers a way of opening the ears of those who take the message of the Bible seriously, a message from a world different from our own. Beginning with Revelation, Gene provides a historically informed and pastorally sensitive reading of the various Johannine voices in the New Testament for contemporary preachers and teachers.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: William Gabienu brings spirituality to the masses with his first release Grabbing Your Destiny By The Horns. This is a must-read volume for those tired of looking for enlightenment in the wrong places~ The Weekly Book Webinar William Gabienu hits all the right chords with his new book. You will find yourself hooked to this one within moments of opening it.~ Novel Ideas From The Author Q) William, what is the overall message of your book Grabbing Your Destiny by the Horns? A) Dream big according to your God-given purpose. Do not stop at difficulties and grab your designed destiny. Have we started? Seriously? (laughs) Q) Yes, I thought I would give you an easy one to begin with. Let me ask you, what is YOUR purpose and how did YOU find it? A) The question of purpose varies from person to person and so is being able to fully understand it. Generally, our purpose is to glorify God by living out our lives fully, not in part. Personally, my purpose takes its root in God and I try to do my best with the abilities He has put within me to His praise and to the benefit of all. Q) Living a life in part? What does that mean? A) By living a life in part, I simply mean the instance when people do not utilize wholly their God-given abilities maybe because of difficulties. Some people stop midway on their journey to their designed place in life. This is living life in part. Trust me Nick, this is not glorifying in any way. Q) So youve been there? You have experienced living life in part? A) Sure! Thats why my desire to help all people realize that the power to accomplish within them is higher than any obstacle that tries to stop us. Q) A reviewer said about your book that: [this book will show you] how to develop self-reliance and achieve your dreams. But what if you dont know what your dream is? Is living for God the dream all people should have? A) Firstly, I appreciate those kind word describing my book and I thank whoever the person is. There is a point in that review I would like to correct, though. I emphasize self-realization, hard work, focus, and of course, dependence on God as my faith teaches me. Q) So your book really only focuses on God and how God can glorify a life? A) Living for God is not the only dream people should have. The phrase dream life runs throughout my book and what I mean is the desire of your heart, your ambitions and all that you aspire to be in life. Q) Your book relies heavily on the Bible for inspiration. Would you say that the Bible itself is a self-help guide? A) No. No and no. Grabbing Your Destiny by the Horns is a book that seeks to help the reader realize that he is on earth for a purpose and that his talents, skills and abilities have been given to him so that life on earth can be more meaningful. All is attainable and possible if he marries correct action to the dreams of his heart. Nick, Im a bit uncomfortable calling it self-help. I would say the Bible and, for that matter, my book are inspirational and books that teach and enlighten. They teach self-realization, not self-help. It teaches ACTION on your part as well as mindfulness that all is of God.
