Book How Green is Your Class

Download or read book How Green is Your Class written by Kate Brown and published by Continuum. This book was released on 2008-09-20 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Young people, like adults, are faced daily with small and huge injustices. Their capacity for outrage and their heightened sense of social justice mean they can be quick to identify the need for change. How often do you hear students say 'Miss, that's not fair', or 'Miss, how can I make a difference'? How Green is Your Class? is a guide for teachers on how to support students who want to make a difference. Over fifty actions are outlined, all with the potential to bring about change: at home, school, locally, nationally and internationally, on any issue young people choose. These 'change actions', can be used flexibly by teachers: with classes or smaller groups; in school time or for homework; as one-off practical activities or term-long campaigning projects; to stretch able and focused students and to motivate disengaged young people. Above all, they are intended to be used to inspire and equip young people to make a difference now and in the future.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Special Features: Examples from award-winning schools and leaders—best-practices and illustrative examples throughout make whole school sustainability come to life and show how green leadership is a real possibility for the reader. Book Climate Change as Class War

Download or read book Climate Change as Class War written by Matthew T. Huber and published by Verso Books. This book was released on 2022-05-10 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How to build a movement to confront climate change The climate crisis is not primarily a problem of ‘believing science’ or individual ‘carbon footprints’ – it is a class problem rooted in who owns, controls and profits from material production. As such, it will take a class struggle to solve. In this ground breaking class analysis, Matthew T. Huber argues that the carbon-intensive capitalist class must be confronted for producing climate change. Yet, the narrow and unpopular roots of climate politics in the professional class is not capable of building a movement up to this challenge. For an alternative strategy, he proposes climate politics that appeals to the vast majority of society: the working class. Huber evaluates the Green New Deal as a first attempt to channel working class material and ecological interests and advocates building union power in the very energy system we need to dramatically transform. In the end, as in classical socialist movements of the early 20th Century, winning the climate struggle will need to be internationalist based on a form of planetary working class solidarity.

Book Green to Gold

Download or read book Green to Gold written by Daniel C. Esty and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2009-01-09 with total page 423 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the Publishers Weekly review: "Two experts from Yale tackle the business wake-up-call du jour-environmental responsibility-from every angle in this thorough, earnest guidebook: pragmatically, passionately, financially and historically. Though "no company the authors know of is on a truly long-term sustainable course," Esty and Winston label the forward-thinking, green-friendly (or at least green-acquainted) companies WaveMakers and set out to assess honestly their path toward environmental responsibility, and its impact on a company's bottom line, customers, suppliers and reputation. Following the evolution of business attitudes toward environmental concerns, Esty and Winston offer a series of fascinating plays by corporations such as Wal-Mart, GE and Chiquita (Banana), the bad guys who made good, and the good guys-watchdogs and industry associations, mostly-working behind the scenes. A vast number of topics huddle beneath the umbrella of threats to the earth, and many get a thorough analysis here: from global warming to electronic waste "take-back" legislation to subsidizing sustainable seafood. For the responsible business leader, this volume provides plenty of (organic) food for thought. "
