Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this compelling book, Lithuanian author Ruta Vanagaite holds an extended conversation with noted historian Christoph Dieckmann. His exploration of the causes and consequences of the Holocaust in Lithuania provides the first overview for general readers that considers the perspectives of all the central groups involved—Jews, Lithuanians, and Germans. Drawing on a rich array of sources in all the key languages—Yiddish, Ivrit, Lithuanian, and German—Dieckmann considers not only the Berlin-based orientation of the German perpetrators but also the space where the Shoah took place—Lithuanian society with its Jewish minority under German occupation. He contends that this “space” of mass crimes is always linked with warfare and occupation. The Holocaust was unprecedented, but he makes a powerful case it cannot be isolated from the other mass crimes that took place at the same time in the same space against thousands of Soviet prisoners of war and forced refugees from the Soviet territories. Dieckmann shows that the Holocaust could not have unfolded throughout German-dominated Europe without the conditional cooperation of non-Germans in each occupied country. Existing antisemitism was radicalized from the 1930s onward, turning Jews, under the enormous stress of unrelenting warfare and often instable conditions of occupation, into what were perceived as deadly enemies. The Holocaust, its history and memory, can only be understood through this broader context. The authors’ searching exchanges illuminate the most profound questions we have as we struggle to understand the Holocaust.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 2 Peter 3 in the Bible tells us that the scoffers in the last days would be "willingly ignorant" of: 1. The Creation, 2. The Flood and 3. The coming judgment. This book gives a brief overview of the evidence supporting the biblical view of the creation and the flood and gives an easy to understand explanation of what the Bible teaches about the coming tribulation time, the rapture of the believers, the time of God's wrath, the battle of Armageddon and end of the world. In addition there is a long section on "What should we do?" in light of what is coming. This information may be vital to keep many from "falling away" as predicted in 2 Thessalonians 2:1-3.

Book excerpt: NATIONAL BESTSELLER • Discover the game-changing theory of the cycles of history and what past generations can teach us about living through times of upheaval—with deep insights into the roles that Boomers, Generation X, and Millennials have to play—now with a new preface by Neil Howe. First comes a High, a period of confident expansion. Next comes an Awakening, a time of spiritual exploration and rebellion. Then comes an Unraveling, in which individualism triumphs over crumbling institutions. Last comes a Crisis—the Fourth Turning—when society passes through a great and perilous gate in history. William Strauss and Neil Howe will change the way you see the world—and your place in it. With blazing originality, The Fourth Turning illuminates the past, explains the present, and reimagines the future. Most remarkably, it offers an utterly persuasive prophecy about how America’s past will predict what comes next. Strauss and Howe base this vision on a provocative theory of American history. The authors look back five hundred years and uncover a distinct pattern: Modern history moves in cycles, each one lasting about the length of a long human life, each composed of four twenty-year eras—or “turnings”—that comprise history’s seasonal rhythm of growth, maturation, entropy, and rebirth. Illustrating this cycle through a brilliant analysis of the post–World War II period, The Fourth Turning offers bold predictions about how all of us can prepare, individually and collectively, for this rendezvous with destiny.

Book Did That Just Happen

Download or read book Did That Just Happen written by Stephanie Pinder-Amaker and published by Beacon Press. This book was released on 2021-06-15 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An accessible guide showing all people how to create and sustain diversity and inclusivity in the workplace—no matter your identity, industry, or level of experience Offering real-life accounts that illustrate common workplace occurrences around inclusivity and answers to questions like “How do I identify and handle diversity landmines at work?” and “What can I do when I’ve made a mistake?” this handbook breaks down ways that organizations (and all people) can improve their cultural awareness and become more equitable in their work and personal relationships. We know that diverse teams are stronger, smarter, and more profitable, and many companies are attempting to hire more diverse teams, but most struggle to create a real culture of inclusivity in which people from all backgrounds feel comfortable. As clinical psychologists, as well as individuals with marginalized identities, Dr. Stephanie Pinder-Amaker and Dr. Lauren Wadsworth show the emotional and physical impact of marginalization and how that leads to a decrease in employee engagement and, often, increased job turnover. “Did That Just Happen?!” will be invaluable for employees who come from underrepresented communities and identities (identities discussed include race, age, disability, sexual orientation, citizenship status, and gender expression). But the book is essential for leaders of companies, supervisors, HR departments, and for anyone who wants to understand and support diversity/equity/inclusion practices. The book will also make readers feel more confident in their navigating of friendships/interactions with people who hold different identities.

Which you play with! To work is one of the Necessary human activities have developed to survive or to the satisfaction That you are not making shade on the Earth for nothing and enjoy its effects. I enjoyed it! For 30 years I am living the satisfaction of a job well-done. If someone would ask me what would I do if I had to start all over again, I think my answer Would be "the same thing". Why? Because we, the human Beings are bent upon HAVING A Certain Meaning during our Earthly Lives. We all come on this world for a well-defined reason, it's just That Some of us discover it, others don't! Each with His Own perception. Any person, looked upon from the outside, has a Certain Way, BUT HIS true face is the one from the inside. Why? Because the most beautiful aspects come from there. The beauty of the soul is unique Because the soul is part of the divine creation-it's an undeniable fact! And ... all people are beautiful. You just have to discover Their beauty! Through my line of work, I am, as a matter of fact, the creator of exterior beauty! I personalise and harmonise a person's interior, HIS / HER way of beeing With Their wishes, and place Them on the exterior, and my work result Becomes supreme beauty. Knowing how to do this is nor easy, neither difficult! It's all up to how much you want to and how much you have learned in the field. The Beginning of my profession, "my golden bracelet" - was like a game. And if you know how to play you never get old...''

Book excerpt: Portland, Oregon, 1988. The brutal murder of Ethiopian immigrant Mulugeta Seraw by racist skinheads shocked the city. In response disparate groups quickly came together to organize against white nationalist violence and right wing organizing throughout the Rose City and the Pacific Northwest. It Did Happen Here compiles interviews with dozens of people who worked together during the waning decades of the 20th century to reveal an inspiring collaboration between groups of immigrants, civil rights activists, militant youth, and queer organizers. This oral history focuses on participants in three core groups: the Portland chapters of Anti Racist Action and Skinheads Against Racial Prejudice, and the Coalition for Human Dignity. Using a diversity of tactics—from out-and-out brawls on the streets and at punk shows, to behind-the-scenes intelligence gathering—brave antiracists unified on their home ground over and over, directly attacking right wing fascists and exposing white nationalist organizations and neo-Nazi skinheads. Embattled by police and unsupported by the city, these citizen activists eventually drove the boneheads out of the music scene and off the streets of Portland. This book shares their stories about what worked, what didn’t, and ideas on how to continue the fight.

Book It Did Happen Here The Rise of Fascism in Contemporary Society

Download or read book It Did Happen Here The Rise of Fascism in Contemporary Society written by Milan Zafirovski and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2023-04-12 with total page 560 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book argues and demonstrates that fascism did happen in contemporary society such as especially America, as during post-2016. It classifies and discusses the main elements of fascism to see if these reveal and replicate themselves in America post-2016. It discovers the specific syndromes of fascism in America post-2016 that reveal and replicate universal fascist features. It detects the main social causes of fascism in America post-2016. It identifies primary counterforces to fascism in America and elsewhere. Lastly, the book constructs a composite fascism index and calculates fascism indexes for Western and comparable societies like OECD countries. These indexes provide suggestive evidence that fascism happened in America and other OECD countries, even if not in Western Europe, especially Scandinavia.
