Book Equipped to Tell the Next Generation

Download or read book Equipped to Tell the Next Generation written by Donna R. Ryan and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2020-04-15 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Equipped to Tell the Next Generation bridges the gap between knowing and sharing our faith in Jesus by revealing areas of our beliefs and practices which have been syncretized with twenty-first-century American culture: relative truth, consumerism, pleasure, an independent spirit, the victim mentality, and the culture of doubt. These go to the heart of who we are and keep Christians from telling people about Jesus in winsome ways. This book provides the solution: recover the holiness of God, his ultimate characteristic, which holds all his characteristics in perfect unity. Rather than legalism, genuine holiness is the highest beauty which produces wholeness because it balances holy love, holy righteousness, repentance of sin, peace, and respect for all people and all of God’s creation. When we meet a holy God, we want to worship and to serve him because the beauty of holiness touches the very essence of our being. It becomes our greatest desire to please him because of the deep love we find there, a holy love unlike what the world offers. This book will take you on a journey to recover the things compromised to culture and will equip you to tell the next generation about Jesus.

Book Christian Globalism at Home

Download or read book Christian Globalism at Home written by Hillary Kaell and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2020-06-09 with total page 316 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An exploration of how ordinary U.S. Christians create global connections through the multibillion-dollar child sponsorship industry Child sponsorship emerged from nineteenth-century Protestant missions to become one of today’s most profitable private fund-raising tools in organizations including World Vision, Compassion International, and ChildFund. Investigating two centuries of sponsorship and its related practices in American living rooms, churches, and shopping malls, Christian Globalism at Home reveals the myriad ways that Christians who don’t travel outside of the United States cultivate global sensibilities. Kaell traces the movement of money, letters, and images, along with a wide array of sponsorship’s lesser-known embodied and aesthetic techniques, such as playacting, hymn singing, eating, and fasting. She shows how, through this process, U.S. Christians attempt to hone globalism of a particular sort by oscillating between the sensory experiences of a God’s eye view and the intimacy of human relatedness. These global aspirations are buoyed by grand hopes and subject to intractable limitations, since they so often rely on the inequities they claim to redress. Based on extensive interviews, archival research, and fieldwork, Christian Globalism at Home explores how U.S. Christians imagine and experience the world without ever leaving home.

Book Andrew Fuller s Theology of Revival

Download or read book Andrew Fuller s Theology of Revival written by Ryan Rindels and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2021-01-21 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Revival is the arguable heartbeat of evangelical Christianity. Though a theologically diverse and globally diffused phenomenon, evangelicalism originated in a distinctly Calvinistic milieu. Many Puritans in the seventeenth century, "evangelicals before the revivals," emphasized the work of the Holy Spirit, including the importance of personal conversion. Unlike theologically Arminian proponents of revival such as Charles G. Finney, many Puritans and early evangelicals believed and taught that the absolute sovereignty of God was compatible with human responsibility. Calvinistic Baptists in the early eighteenth century who rejected this tension declined numerically, yet a new generation of pastors led their denomination through this impasse. Andrew Fuller (1754-1815) defended Reformed doctrine in the Particular Baptist tradition while emphasizing the importance of human response in his preaching, writing, and fundraising for the Baptist Missionary Society. The fruit of Fuller's ministry included growth of churches in England, conversions among people groups in the Global South, and the preservation of Reformed theology in a challenging Enlightenment context.

I have had a close-up look at this man and his ministry and can heartily endorse it. May God use this book to encourage His Church to do great exploits and triumphantly bring back the King! Loren Cunningham, Founder, Youth with a Mission International Few books have dared to document so fully the incredible ways in which God has been working in His Church. It should be required reading for any world-Christian. Jay Gary, Past Executive Editor, World Christian Magazine Two underlying themes of this book are: (1) We may expect a major, worldwide revival in coming years which will immediately precede Christs second coming, and (2) God has been progressively restoring the Church to the New Testament model, particularly in the last few centuries. Dr. Howard A. Snyder, Author of Radical Renewal: The Problem of Wineskins Today Nate Krupp has produced a major work which, if used as a text, can provide superb training for the harvesters. Dr. C.
