Book Hot Property

Download or read book Hot Property written by Rob Nijskens and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-06-14 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This open access book discusses booming housing markets in cities around the globe, and the resulting challenges for policymakers and central banks. Cities are booming everywhere, leading to a growing demand for urban housing. In many cities this demand is out-pacing supply, which causes house prices to soar and increases the pressure on rental markets. These developments are posing major challenges for policymakers, central banks and other authorities responsible for ensuring financial stability, and economic well-being in general. This volume collects views from high-level policymakers and researchers, providing essential insights into these challenges, their impact on society, the economy and financial stability, and possible policy responses. The respective chapters address issues such as the popularity of cities, the question of a credit-fueled housing bubble, the role of housing supply frictions and potential policy solutions. Given its scope, the book offers a revealing read and valuable guide for everyone involved in practical policymaking for housing markets, mortgage credit and financial stability.

The scale of potential valuation gaps is gauged on the basis of a cross-country panel analysis of house prices in 20 OECD countries.

Book Housing Market Dynamics in Africa

Download or read book Housing Market Dynamics in Africa written by El-hadj M. Bah and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-03-12 with total page 285 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This open access book utilizes new data to thoroughly analyze the main factors currently shaping the African housing market. Some of these factors include the supply and demand for housing finance, land tenure security issues, construction cost conundrum, infrastructure provision, and low-cost housing alternatives. Through detailed analysis, the authors investigate the political economy surrounding the continent’s housing market and the constraints that behind-the-scenes policy makers need to address in their attempts to provide affordable housing for the majority in need. With Africa’s urban population growing rapidly, this study highlights how broad demographic shifts and rapid urbanization are placing enormous pressure on the limited infrastructure in many cities and stretching the economic and social fabric of municipalities to their breaking point. But beyond providing a snapshot of the present conditions of the African housing market, the book offers recommendations and actionable measures for policy makers and other stakeholders on how best to provide affordable housing and alleviate Africa’s housing deficit. This work will be of particular interest to practitioners, non-governmental organizations, private sector actors, students and researchers of economic policy, international development, and urban development.

Book The Microstructures of Housing Markets

Download or read book The Microstructures of Housing Markets written by Susan J. Smith and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-10-31 with total page 217 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: House prices and mortgage debt have moved to centre stage in the management of national economies, regional development and neighbourhood change. Describing, analysing and understanding how housing markets work within and across these scales of economy and society has never been more urgent. But much more is known about the macro-scales than the microstructures; and about the economic rather than social drivers of housing market dynamics. This book redresses the balance. It shows that housing markets are social, cultural and psychological – as well as economic – affairs. This multidisciplinary approach is helpful in understanding the economic staples of supply, demand, price and information. It also casts new light on the emotional and political economy of markets.

Book Economic Restructuring of the Former Soviet Bloc

Download or read book Economic Restructuring of the Former Soviet Bloc written by Raymond J. Struyk and published by The Urban Insitute. This book was released on 1996 with total page 404 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The countries of Eastern Europe have been on the long road to the market for more than a decade. And while the macroeconomic record has been well documented, there has been little analysis of individual country and cross-sector progress. This book offers detailed comparative analysis of the housing sector in seven countries as a window to understanding the developments beyond the headlines. The authors document housing progress towards reliance on markets, how easy it is for families to buy housing, and how the housing sector has contributed to macroeconomic stabilization in Hungary, Slovenia, the Czech and Slovak Republics, Poland, Russia, Armenia, and Estonia.

Book Stabilizing China s Housing Market

Download or read book Stabilizing China s Housing Market written by Richard Koss and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 2018-04-13 with total page 33 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The sharp rise of house prices in China’s Tier-1 cities has fostered a great deal of commentary about the possibility of bubbles forming there. However, China’s unique housing market characteristics make it difficult to assess the macroeconomic severity of bursting bubbles, even if they exist. These include the setting of land supply and prices by the government, among many others. The presence of overbuilt “ghost cities” greatly complicates the ability of traditional macroeconomic policies to address these concerns. This paper looks at proposals to shore up the mortgage underwriting and legal infrastructure to help China withstand the impact of falling prices, should this occur.

Book Housing Markets in the United States and Japan

Download or read book Housing Markets in the United States and Japan written by Yukio Noguchi and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 2007-12-01 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although Japan and the United States are the world's leading economies, there are significant differences in the ways their wealth is translated into living standards. A careful comparison of housing markets illustrates not only how living standards in the two countries differ, but also reveals much about saving patterns and how they affect wealth accumulation. In this volume, ten essays discuss the evolution of housing prices, housing markets and personal savings, housing finance, commuting, and the impact of public policy on housing markets. The studies reveal surprising differences in housing investment in the two countries. For example, because down payments in Japan are much higher than in the United States, Japanese tend to delay home purchases relative to their American counterparts. In the United States, the advent of home equity credit may have reduced private saving overall. This book is the first comparison of housing markets in Japan and the United States, and its findings illuminate the effects of housing markets on productivity growth, business investment, and trade.
