Book Raised Bed Gardening for Beginners

Download or read book Raised Bed Gardening for Beginners written by Sarah Day and published by . This book was released on 2020-03-05 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Do you have a small space for gardening, and you would like to produce your fresh vegetables and herbs? Would you like to learn how to build your own raised garden? Then keep reading... Why Use Raised Beds in Your Garden? Raised beds are one of my favorite ways to garden for a wide variety of reasons, which you will learn as you read this book. For many people, raised beds to make their gardening more organized, neater, and easier to manage. If you have any mobility issues, it can reduce the impact on your back and the need to bend, meaning you can continue to enjoy gardening even if you cannot dig for hours and kneel on the floor tending your plants. Set up raised beds properly requires absolutely no digging, which makes them ideal for efficient gardener after minimal maintenance work. They are also suitable for anyone with any disability, which makes digging difficult or painful. Anyone who works and tries to keep on top of their garden will be happy for anything that reduces the amount of work they need to do. I found that when I was working and looking after young children, the raised beds made the difference between having a vegetable plot and not being able to manage one. In traditional soil planting your plants lean over on to the paths, which quickly become covered. You then end up having to pick your way carefully between your plants and will usually end up standing on your plants. If you have children visit your vegetable garden, then you will know just how hard it is to get them to stick to unclear paths. I have lost many a row of seedlings to enthusiastic children wanting to help but not realizing where the paths are. In a raised bed garden, the paths are clearly defined, so there is no accidental squashing of seedlings! It also means that if the weather is bad, you do not need to walk on muddy paths as you can easily create paved or barked paths between your beds. Raised beds can be made out of pretty much anything you want, most of mine are made out of wood, but I am building one out of an old bath and have several made out of reclaimed bricks! You will learn everything you need to know about raised bed gardening, from locating your beds and planning through to building, planting, and maintenance so you can successfully build your own raised beds and enjoy an abundant supply of vegetables from them. This book provides a complete guide to the following: Why people should choose raised bed gardening Building your raised bed garden Planning your gardening What to grow and what not to grow in your raised beds Planting and maintaining crops in raised bed gardens High-yielding garden: the secrets Crop rotation and planting techniques Irrigation Putting your garden together Pest control Raised beds tips and tricks Tips for growing healthy plants...AND MORE!!! Book The Ultimate Guide to Raised Bed Gardening for Beginners

Download or read book The Ultimate Guide to Raised Bed Gardening for Beginners written by Lindsey Pylarinos and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2014-12-21 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Ultimate Guide to Raised Bed Gardening for Beginners 2nd Edition: How to Grow Flowers and Vegetables in Raised Beds for a Successful Garden If you're looking for something space efficient but can produce high yields, raised bed gardening would be the best option for you to try. Besides being efficient when it comes to space, it also solves a number of other issues such as dealing with difficult soil as well as your garden's accessibility. Raised bed gardens are basically made up of mounded soil that's surrounded by a frame to make sure it doesn't fall apart. They are usually at least 3 to 4 inches above the ground itself and each "bed" is typically separated by a pathway. Plants would cover the entire surface of these beds and the paths would provide the gardener with ample space to work in, making sure that they don't end up stepping on the soil in the process. A raised bed can be 3 to 5 feet across and the length can vary depending on the need. You'll be able to grow a wide variety of crops vegetables on it as well as herbs. Perennial and annual flowers also thrive in this type of gardening along with roses, shrubs and even berry bushes. The thing with raised beds is that it actually provides the best conditions for crop growth. Because the soil in the bed itself tends to be loose, deep and fertile, it results in more efficient yields regardless of what you plant. Of course, there are other factors to consider but for the most part, and if you do the actual planting right, you'll get good results from it. Raised bed gardens improve a lot of things when compared to more traditional planting styles. It can create a better environment for soil drainage and aeration which allows for the plant roots to penetrate strongly and readily. If weeds happen to grow on it, they're much easier to get rid of. And because of the paths that these beds form, the soil never gets compacted from having been repeatedly stepped on by the gardener. Here Is More Of What You'll Learn...
