Download or read book Are Contract managed Hospitals More Efficient written by Avi Dor and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Contract management is an arrangement in which the board of trustees of a hospital retains an outside organization to manage the facility. This report examines differences between contract-managed hospitals and hospitals managed by salaried administrators. The report uses data from the Hospital Cost and Utilization Project, 1980-87 (HCUP-2) database and the American Hospital Association Annual Survey of Hospitals for 1987 to compare contract-managed hospitals with noncontract hospitals. Contract-managed hospitals generally are smaller facilities, often located in rural areas. Adjusted for size and location, contract-managed hospitals resemble noncontract in casemix and physician speciality attributes, although they appear to provide fewer technology-intensive services. Data from HCUP-2 were used to determine the relationship between financial performance and duration of contract management. Financial ratio analysis suggests that boards of trustees of hospitals opt for services of contract-management firms when the hospitals face financial difficulties. Financially stable hospitals are less likely to do so. Given enough time, contract managers appear to be able to improve the financial condition of the hospital they manage

Download or read book Global Outsourcing Strategies written by Roxane Gervais and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2017-03-02 with total page 347 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the most significant techniques to which companies and organizations have turned to improve service delivery and reduce costs has been outsourcing. Over the last 10 years, almost any process has been successfully outsourced. But during that period there have been failures too; projects that never realised their objectives or that had unforeseen impact on business. Global Outsourcing Strategies is a state-of-the-art guide to the best lessons to be learned for successfully implementing and outsourcing projects, or for revisiting existing operations. The 22 chapters explore some of the new areas for outsourcing, after traditional targets such as IT and finance. Information is provided on the different facets of the outsourcing process, such as contract negotiation, the risks involved in outsourcing, the need for service level agreements, the critical requirements needed to build and sustain outsourcing relationships, and ethical supply chain issues. There are also sections exploring the impact of outsourcing on organizational structures; the long term effects; legal issues; management control and inter-firm relationships; as well as case studies from both the public and private sector on the practical side of outsourcing. The book will appeal to practitioners and researchers alike. This is a must-have guide for any organization approaching outsourcing as a global (or local) strategy and for those organizations now reviewing or developing their outsourcing partnerships.

Book excerpt: The author explores how the corporate transformation of hospitals, HMOs, and the insurance and pharmaceutical industries has resulted in reduction in services, dangerous cost cutting, poor regulation, and corrupt research. He sheds light on the political lobbying and media manipulation that keeps the present system in place. Exposing the shortcomings of reform proposals that do little to alter the status quo, he makes a case for a workable single-payer system.
