Download or read book Sacred Sacrifice written by Rick F. Talbott and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2005-11-01 with total page 365 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'Sacred Sacrifice' examines how analogous mythological ideas and the experience of sacred presence during the ritual act created similar ritual paradigms in two non-contiguous cultures. Vedic fire sacrifice, the Horse sacrifice in ancient India and the sacrificial development of the Christian Eucharist serve as examples. This book takes to task theories on sacrifice and ritual that emphasize the psycho-social and functionalist interpretation to the exclusion of the religious. The relationship between myth and ritual, and conscious and unconscious human behavior emerges from this analysis of universal religious structures.

Book excerpt: Buried deep under the desert sands of Arizona, a U.S. government agency has been working secretly for decades. Their mission – to discover a pathway to contact the dead. ************ It is said that most of us will have only one true love in our lifetimes. When that love is lost, the results can be devastating. Dr. Kenneth Skuyler has lived for too long with the searing pain of having lost his soulmate. Daily, as if addicted, he finds himself drawn to the small, peaceful park across from his home on the shores of Lake Michigan. There, in that park, something has been calling to him for years. On a brisk Sunday October afternoon, he takes his customary seat on his favorite park bench where he is approached by a mysterious young woman and her dog. She proceeds to make him an offer that could change his life and give him what he requires most – to become whole again. The deal they strike: should he agree to travel through time to help her, she will restore the long-lost love of his life. To this end, he must risk his career, his family, his very life, and work with a dog the world has never before seen. Buoyed by a glimmer of hope for the first time in over a decade, two phrases appear unbidden from the depths of his subconscious. ‘I know you’re out there somewhere. I know I’ll find you somehow.’

Book Newcomer to the Horse World

Download or read book Newcomer to the Horse World written by Andrea Sinner and published by Trafalgar Square Books. This book was released on 2024-11-05 with total page 235 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An insider’s guide for the amateur equestrian. Andrea Sinner embarked on her equestrian journey at age 30 while navigating an all-consuming global consulting career. A neophyte with little to guide her but passion, she found the horse world's customs and complexities challenging. After 25 years of hard-earned lessons and continuous growth, Sinner now shares the wisdom she fought to gain along the way, with a book for adults who are newcomers to the equestrian lifestyle as she once was. Whether riders themselves or the parents of horse-crazy children, the equestrian realm can be daunting and often perplexing to those beginning their journey with horses. Luckily, Sinner’s book serves as a comprehensive insider's guide, offering a sensible pathway to enjoying the company of horses while always advocating for their welfare. Sinner’s advice is clear and on point, helping readers confidently find their place among both the professionals and the lifelong enthusiasts in this unique world. Rather than focusing on horse care or riding—topics she acknowledges are well covered in existing published works—Sinner aims to help readers integrate smoothly into the equestrian community on their own terms. She deftly demystifies the often bewildering culture, traditions, conventions, and unwritten rules, and offers “watch-outs” to help shield the novice from the less savory characters and practices that unfortunately can be encountered in the industry. You’ll find advice on: Appreciating the unique language, relationships, and responsibilities Defining your values, boundaries, and objectives Understanding the financial costs, including (most importantly) exceptional horse care Finding the right barn, trainer, and horse Building a quality horse care team Being a good client and member of the barn Preparing for the psychological elements of the sport And much more Throughout, Sinner delves into what it means to intend to “do right” by horses and guides readers on extending their involvement in the sport only as far as that intention can be realized. Learn how to form deep connections and elevate your time spent with horses and horse people from a hobby to a transformative journey. Whether taking up riding for the first time (ever, or in many years) or guiding a horse-crazy child through the maze of learning to ride, Sinner’s thorough and thoughtful book promises positive experiences and happy moments in the barn, at the ring, and in the company of your horse.
