Book Hope Heals

Download or read book Hope Heals written by Katherine Wolf and published by Zondervan. This book was released on 2016-04-26 with total page 259 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When all seems lost, where can you find hope? Katherine and Jay Wolf married right after college and sought adventure far from home in Los Angeles, CA. As they pursued their dreams--she as a model and he as a lawyer--they planted their lives in the city and their church community. Their son, James, came along unexpectedly in the fall of 2007, and just six months later, everything changed in a moment for this young family. On April 21, 2008, as James slept in the other room, Katherine collapsed, suffering a massive brain stem stroke without warning. Miraculously, Jay came home in time and called for help. Katherine was immediately rushed into brain surgery, though her chance of survival was slim. As the sun rose the next morning, the surgeon proclaimed that Katherine had survived the removal of part of her brain, though her future recovery was uncertain. Yet in that moment, there was a spark of hope. Through forty days on life support in the ICU and nearly two years in full-time brain rehab, that small spark of hope was fanned into flame. Hope Heals documents Katherine and Jay's journey as they struggled to regain Katherine's quality of life and as she relearned to talk, eat, and walk. As Katherine returned home with a severely disabled body but a completely renewed purpose, she and Jay committed to celebrating this gift of a second chance by embracing life fully, even though that life looked very different than they could have ever imagined. As you uncover Katherine and Jay's remarkable story, you'll be encouraged to: Find lasting hope in the midst of struggle Embrace the unexpected Welcome God's miracles into your everyday life In the midst of continuing hardships, both in body and mind, Katherine and Jay found what we all long to find: a hope that heals the most broken place--our souls. Let Hope Heals be your guide along the way. Praise for Hope Heals: "As I read this book, tears streamed from my eyes even as joy flooded my heart. Jay and Katherine are a raw yet refreshing testimony to the unshakable trustworthiness of God amidst the unimaginable trials of life. This book reminds all of us where hope can be found in a world where none of us know what the next day holds." --David Platt, author of the New York Times bestseller Radical and president of the International Mission Board "Hope Heals is a beautiful, true story that illustrates the love and protection God has for us even in the darkest times of our lives. Katherine and Jay's dedication to each other and the Lord through their most devastating season is inspiring. This book will help your heart believe that He sees, He knows, He cares, and He is still working miracles today!" --Lysa TerKeurst, New York Times bestselling author and president of Proverbs 31 Ministries

Book Hope in Time of Abandonment

Download or read book Hope in Time of Abandonment written by Jacques Ellul and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2012-06-12 with total page 329 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The writings of Jacques Ellul have brought him into the first rank as theologian and social critic. Martin Marty commented that if he had to introduce one man from the Protestant world to tell the church what its agenda should be, that man would be Ellul. The eminent Frenchman now brings us his most profound, most moving theological statement. For years, Jacques Ellul tells us in his preface, he had wanted to write a book on "The Age of Abandonment," for it seemed to him that both society and the church had reached that point described in Scripture when God turns his back and is silent. But when he came to elaborate this theme, Ellul found himself inexplicably writing on the theme of hope, despite the fact that his analysis of society remained unchanged. Hope was now no longer a matter of intellect, but a word asked by God of the heart for its salvation.More than ever before, in this book Jacques Ellul shares with readers not only the darkest forebodings of contemporary man's soul, but also his own struggle to emerge from despair to a stronger level of Christian faith--and hope. He writes of hope, not in the vein of Moltmann and Metz, but in a highly original and penetrating manner.

Book excerpt: This volume throws out a lifeline to all who are running low on hope--those going under, losing their grip, slipping away, falling, failing, listing, losing, lost--as well as to those looking to enliven and embolden their hope. Hope's Daughters takes a comprehensive, 360-degree approach to hope, drawing inspiration from nature, history, poetry, science, philosophy, religion, psychology, fiction, art, biography, sports, children, and current events. This hope "reader" is deeply personal, drawing on the author's thirty years spent in hospital chaplaincy plumbing the depths with patients, their families, and their caregivers. Willis writes not from some ivory tower, but out of the hot caldron of human suffering. As "a lover of words, quotations, and stories, and one who aspired to serve others as a hope-prompter," Willis packs every page with a two-minute drill to jumpstart hope each day. For hurried people, this book removes life's husk and gets straight down to the kernel. As a cornucopia of wisdom and hope, Hope's Daughters is an eminently practical gift for those seeking to keep hope alive and well.

Book Howard Hughes Was Bob Hope in Make Up

Download or read book Howard Hughes Was Bob Hope in Make Up written by Joseph Polillo and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2019-06-23 with total page 531 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I always knew Howard Hughes was Bob Hope in makeup. I knew who Bob Hope was since the ’70s. I began gathering facts and proofs to prove beyond reasonable doubt that I knew what I was talking about! I wrote this book because I was tired of telling my theory to just one or two people at a time. Howard Hughes was Bob Hope in makeup, and he told you so in his TV skits, in his movies, and in his books. The life of Bob Hope was a cover story bought and paid for by the United States government—an alleged life. Howard Rupert Hughes Jr. was “Sonny” billionaire industrialist, oilman, movie producer, screenwriter, director, photographer, and inventor of satellites, lasers, ships, planes, jets, and rockets. Hope himself stated that he had a group of writers, and he was the one with two (2) heads. And most of all, he was a character actor in his own movies from his own studios. I have in my possession a magazine ad with Hope lying in bed, and the header above his picture read: “Two of the most famous names in America sleep together.” My theory is, Howard Hughes disappeared, went underground, and reappeared in makeup as Bob Hope in an “alleged life,” wearing a mask. Howard Hughes was talking behind his Bob Hope face. Here’s a quote from Hope: “I do my best impersonations right in front of the people, and they don’t get it. They don’t listen.” Hope stated “my names” would go down in history. Another quote from Hope stated, “My sixty years with NBC proves Lincoln was wrong. You can fool all the people all the time.” He did!

In Pedagogy of Hope, Freire revisits the themes of his masterpiece, the real world contexts that inspired them and their impact in that very world. Freire's abiding concern for social justice and education in the developing world remains as timely and as inspiring as ever, and is shaped by both his rigorous intellect and his boundless compassion. Pedagogy of Hope is a testimonial to the inner vitality of generations denied prosperity and to the often-silent, generous strength of millions throughout the world who refuse to let hope be extinguished. Giroux, University Chair for Scholarship in the Public Interest and the Paulo Freire Distinguished Scholar in Critical Pedagogy at McMaster University, Canada. Translated by Robert R. Barr.

Book Beyond Hope

    Book Details:
  • Author : Stephen J. Costello
  • Publisher : Cambridge Scholars Publishing
  • Release : 2020-10-12
  • ISBN : 1527560619
  • Pages : 156 pages

Download or read book Beyond Hope written by Stephen J. Costello and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2020-10-12 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Drawing on a host of philosophers such as Arthur Schopenhauer, Gabriel Marcel, Josef Pieper, Paul Ricoeur, Viktor Frankl, Eric Voegelin, Bernard Lonergan, Roger Scruton, John Caputo, and Ludwig Wittgenstein, as well as theologians like Hans Urs von Balthasar, Karl Rahner, Hans Küng, Pope Benedict XVI and Pope Francis, this book argues passionately for the place of hope as the ‘beyond’ of both a will-o’-the-wisp, facile optimism, on the one hand, and a world-weary, fatuous pessimism, on the other. Drawing on the philosophy of Advaita Vedanta in the concluding chapter, it suggests that only by living from the Self as distinct from the ego can we know ultimate peace and experience the bliss of being that is beyond both hope and happiness. These philosophical reflections are both timely, as the publication appears amid the Coronavirus crisis, and wise. It is warmly recommended for its breadth and depth of knowledge. This book will appeal to students of both Eastern and Western philosophy, as well as spiritual seekers.
