Hongi was instrumental in convincing Samuel Marsden to establish the first mission station at Hohi - Oihi Bay and the second mission station at Kerikeri. Hone Heke married Hongi's daughter and was one of the first Maori chiefs to sign the controversial Waitangi Treaty.Both traveled to England, bought weapons and fought in the New Zealand musket wars. Hongi died from wounds received in battle and Hone died from tuberculosis.The writer had been introduced to this historically rich and fascinating area, prompting the production of the Cook and Marsden, and Hongi Hika and Hone Heki account.The vast volumes of books written on these famous characters are best left with the learned authors. My account is thus a pictorial presentation to complete a simple puzzle which is indeed much more complex than what my humble writings suggest.
