Book Home Economics in Elementary and Secondary Schools Classic Reprint

Download or read book Home Economics in Elementary and Secondary Schools Classic Reprint written by Agnes K. Hanna and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-10 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Home Economics in Elementary and Secondary Schools This book is planned primarily as a text-book for students in special methods courses in home economics in colleges and normal schools. In addition it should be valuable to experienced teachers as it contains discussions of many of the practical teaching problems that they meet in their daily work, as well as a more general study of the purposes and results of home economics teaching. Teachers of special methods courses in home economics have been handicapped because little material on the principles and methods of teaching home economics has been available for use as text or reference books for these classes. This has resulted not only in less effective teaching in these courses, due to the necessity of using a lecture method rather than a problem method in the class, but also in the slow development of a common understanding or interpretation of some of the most fundamental problems in home economics teaching. This book has been written with the hope that it will be of assistance in both of these situations. It is based on several years' experience in teaching a special methods course in which many of the students have been experienced teachers. The point of view that is emphasized and the conclusions that are reached are the results of the discussions carried on in these classes. It is because this material embodies or reflects the consensus of opinion of many persons who have received their training in schools in different parts of the country that it is offered as a first step toward a more scientific study of the teaching of home economics. Book Teaching Home Economics Classic Reprint

Download or read book Teaching Home Economics Classic Reprint written by Anna M. Cooley and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-08 with total page 576 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Teaching Home Economics The object of this book is to offer suggestions for the organiza tion, administration, and teaching of the home economics studies. In the preparation of the book the authors have endeavored to adapt it to the various types of persons whose needs they hope to serve. Before the war these studies were recognized by some as an essential part of the general education of every girl. With the declaration of peace, they assume a new significance and appear as an indispensable part of her education. This is true because every girl needs instruction regarding better and more healthful living, and training in those practices which will enable her to live her daily life more intelligently, to rear her children more thoughtfully, and to serve her community and country more efficiently. These studies are needed by some because they prepare also for certain definite wage-earning vocations. This book draws the distinction between home economics studies as organized for general or liberal education purposes and such lines of specialized vocational training as may have grown out of them. It is the conviction of the authors that only through a closely woven course involving both theory and practice can the subject matter offered have any real value to the students. The book presupposes courses in the various phases of Home Economics, practical, scientific, artistic, economic, and sociological, of greater or less intensity. In other words, it is taken for granted that the student who will use it will be familiar with the scope of the field, and that her course in methods will serve as a means of evaluating and unifying the material she gains through her tech nical courses, and interpreting it in terms of elementary and secondary school teaching. Book Junior Home Economics Food Classic Reprint

Download or read book Junior Home Economics Food Classic Reprint written by Mata Roman Friend and published by . This book was released on 2015-08-09 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Junior Home Economics Food This text is designed as a beginning text in foods to be used with pupils soon after they enter the period of secondary education. That is, these units are to be among the early educational experiences that have as their chief purpose the adjustment of pupils to some of the materials, ideas, and situations that constitute living. It is organized in units as described by Dr. H. C. Morrison in The Practice of Teaching in the Secondary Schools. The organization, point of view, and numerous devices resulted largely from teaching in the Labortory Schools of the University of Chicago. However, a wide variety of experiences afforded contributions. The sequence of the units as given is considered advisable under some conditions; under others it may be disregarded. Experience has shown that a positive attitude toward particular foods is economically furthered when pupils prepare these foods themselves. If pupils have had no experience with food preparation, it is well to have the nutrition unit follow the one on preparation. Otherwise too much attention would be diverted to preparation to the detriment of the nutrition learnings. In addition, knowledge of the ingredients of various dishes as gained in the preparation unit is of positive assistance in nutritional evaluations. As will be noted, family marketing is based on nutritional requirements. Consequently, it is essential that pupils taking up the unit on marketing have nutritional understandings. The learnings gained from the preparation unit are also important in making marketing intelligible. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. In certain sections of the coun try, the county agents of the extension service have articulated their work with that of the rural schools and have thus been able to teach some home economics and some agriculture.
