Book The Hole in Our Holiness

Download or read book The Hole in Our Holiness written by Kevin DeYoung and published by Crossway. This book was released on 2014-01-31 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The hole in our holiness is that we don't care much about holiness. Or, at the very least, we don't understand it. And we all have our reasons too: Maybe the pursuit of holiness seems legalistic. Maybe it feels like one more thing to worry about in your already overwhelming life. Maybe the emphasis on effort in the Christian life appears unspiritual. Or maybe you've been trying really hard to be holy and it's just not working! Whatever the case, the problem is clear: too few Christians look like Christ and too many don't seem all that concerned about it. This is a book for those of us who are ready to take holiness seriously, ready to be more like Jesus, ready to live in light of the grace that produces godliness. This is a book about God's power to help us grow in personal holiness and to enjoy the process of transformation.

Book Help for Holiness

  • Author : Paul F. Evans

Download or read book Help for Holiness written by Paul F. Evans and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2018-10-30 with total page 388 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At one time there was a great deal of interest in the topic of holiness—but not so much anymore. Theological wrangling and impossible legalism has left many in the church frustrated and confused, with part of that confusion arising from idealism in the pulpit that rang hollow in the lives and experiences of ordinary believers. But what if there was significant help from God in the enterprise of living a morally triumphant life, where habitual sinning was not inevitable, and where the development of godly character was possible and found through a maturing relationship with God and growth in the Christian life? The apostle Paul certainly thought so. In Help for Holiness, author and senior pastor Paul F. Evans revisits the topic of holiness and explores Paul’s admonition that believers shouldn’t seek more rules (legalism) nor give in to moral pessimism that says we cannot help but sin every day in word, thought, and deed. Instead, through morally transformative justification and regeneration, followed by a commitment to the crucifixion of the old life in the death of Christ, we can be raised to new life, which, through ongoing surrender to the Spirit, can in fact produce the conduct and character God is looking for. In this postmodern world, we do not need to abandon an emphasis on righteous and holy living—God really has made a provision for us to succeed morally. Holiness was started by grace, and God will complete it in us by grace through the Spirit!

Book Holiness to the Lord

Download or read book Holiness to the Lord written by Allen P. Ross and published by Baker Academic. This book was released on 2006-03-01 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At first glance, the Book of Leviticus seems like barren material for lively preaching. Most expositors merely skim the surface for messages on tithing or sabbath-keeping. Yet Leviticus is one of the most important books of the Old Testament; it not only describes the complete religious system of ancient Israel, it also lays the theological foundation for the Christian gospel. In Holiness to the Lord, Allen P. Ross enables preachers and teachers to mine the riches of Leviticus and deliver them to a contemporary audience. Following the same practical method he used in the acclaimed Creation and Blessing, Ross first carefully sites Leviticus within its context in the ancient world. Then he traces the development of God's plan of salvation-how Leviticus' laws, rituals, symbols, and events prepared for the complete revelation in Jesus Christ. Finally, unlike traditional commentaries, Ross offers helpful ideas for correlating Leviticus to New Testament teachings (particularly Romans, Hebrews, and Peter) and for applying the material in relevant expository form. Holiness to the Lord is every expositor's indispensable guide for interpreting the Law for the church and for elucidating Leviticus in practical, biblical messages about worship, sanctification, and obedience.

Book Scriptural Holiness According to the Bible

Download or read book Scriptural Holiness According to the Bible written by John Henderson and published by . This book was released on 2021-09-18 with total page 137 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Scriptural Holiness According to the Bible is a practical approach to understanding entire sanctification in the Wesleyan tradition. It expresses the sensibleness of the doctrine of scriptural holiness as the Bible teaches it. It presents biblical holiness in a helpful manner as it is taught in the Scriptures. This approach is more useful than by being merely academic and is not obligated to supporting a particular bias. This approach bypasses the misrepresentations, distortions, wishful thinking, and denials of this great truth by either friend and foe and simply brings forth what the Bible itself says about being sanctified wholly and living a holiness lifestyle in the pursuit of holiness as commanded in the Scriptures.

Book Why Holiness

Download or read book Why Holiness written by Tommy Rodriguez, Jr. and published by . This book was released on 2017-09-18 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: THIS THEOLOGICAL SYLLOGISTIC THESIS WAS written with the sole purpose of providing understanding as well as clarity to all individuals who consider them self to be a Christian, with regard to an extremely sensitive, but, yet, life-impacting subject matter-Holiness Standards/Church Standards/Practical Holiness. In achieving this objective, I have chosen to utilize an in-depth approach of the Word of God. In short, I have provided numerous Scripture texts to aid towards complete Biblical understanding as well as theological clarity of this greatly debatable, highly ignored, and grossly misunderstood Biblical subject matter.I would like to submit the following thesis statement as the central assertion of this Theological Argument: Holiness Standards have been instituted since the creation of Adam and Eve and have continued throughout The Old Testament, being a foreknowledge, if you will, for The New Testament Church. Therefore, they are Biblical, extremely relevant, and must be adhered to by The New Testament Church today. Now, despite the Argument that mainstream Oneness Pentecostalism makes for Holiness Standards/Church Standards, it appears to me that we ought to accept and apply sound Biblical principles as the better position, since it allows our beliefs to remain more consistent, void of "Man-made Rules", "Legalism", and hypocrisy. The general presupposition, then, rests solely upon the following Claim: Holiness is the Apostolic Doctrine (the Biblical doctrine) that states, "And they made the plate of the holy crown of pure gold, and wrote upon it a writing, like to the engravings of a signet, HOLINESS TO THE LORD" (see Exodus 39:30); "Give unto the LORD the glory due unto his name: bring an offering, and come before him: worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness" (see I Chronicles 16:29); "In holiness and righteousness before him, all the days of our life" (see Luke 1:75); and "...holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord" (see Hebrews 12:14). Namely, there is a Holiness Standard-there is a Church Standard by which the Church of God is to present itself daily before God! Therefore, Church Standards are not to be considered a "Legalistic System", better known as "Man-made Rules".Apostasy, then, is to be considered to hold to any other form of doctrine or belief that is contrary to the Apostolic Doctrine-contrary to Holiness Standards/Church Standards. Hence, not only is any belief that is contrary to the Apostolic Doctrine to be viewed as being false teaching, but it is to be recognized as being false doctrine altogether. In short, upon further examination of Scripture (void of human opinion, interpretation, and viewpoint), you will find that this erroneous theological viewpoint and apostasy (i.e., "Legalism") is proven to be laden with, not only Syllogism Fallacy as well as Logical Fallacy, but countless Scriptural contradictions and inconsistencies as well.Reader, as you read through this Theological Syllogistic Thesis, I ask that you sincerely pray-seeking after The Wisdom of God-asking God to unveil His truth, and to provide complete understanding and clarity of this profound Biblical subject matter. But most importantly, to reveal the spiritual significance of Holiness Standards/Church Stands/Practical Holiness as being part of the true Biblical doctrine (the Apostolic Doctrine) regarding a godly life-style that is undisputedly as well as is adamantly advocated by God Himself, within Matthew 5:48 and I Peter 1:15-16.

Book Holiness

  • Author : John Webster
  • Publisher : SCM Press
  • Release : 2003-03-15
  • ISBN : 0334028957
  • Pages : 65 pages

Download or read book Holiness written by John Webster and published by SCM Press. This book was released on 2003-03-15 with total page 65 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Here, Webster presents a trinitarian theology of holiness, which is aimed at a wide range of audiences, including ordinands, students of theology and interested laypeople. According to this account, God's holiness is known not in his simple transcendence but in his gracious and free relationship to his creatures. That holiness finds an echo in the holiness of the Christian community, especially in worship and witness, and in the life of the individual disciple. Integrating biblical, dogmatic and practical theology, the book - which is based on the Day-Higginbotham lectures delivered in the University of Toronto in 2002 - offers a succinct account of a central theme in Christian teaching and practice.

Book Scriptural Sanctification An Attempted Solution Of The Holiness Problem

This book was released on 2023-07-18 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: John Rives Brooks addresses one of the most pressing theological issues of his time, the doctrine of sanctification, which divided many religious communities in the late 19th century. His book provides an in-depth analysis of the biblical concept of sanctification, the history of its interpretation, and the different views held by Christian sects. Brooks argues for a more inclusive and practical approach to sanctification rooted in the teachings of Jesus and grounded in the daily life of believers. • Pages : 458 pages

Download or read book Holiness written by J. C. Ryle and published by Hendrickson Publishers. This book was released on 2007 with total page 458 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: J. C. Ryle's "Holiness " is a lost treasure, written by one of the great Anglican priests and writers of the nineteenth century. Hendrickson reintroduces this classic text, largely unavailable today, on living a Christ-like life. "Holiness " is considered to be one of the most profound books on discipleship in the English language. Christians have recognized anew the critical importance of discipleship and spiritual formation to the life of the individual believer, the local church and to the Kingdom of God. Ryle's "Holiness " ranks among the core library of teachings on being a disciple of Jesus Christ. In this book, Ryle encourages the reader into a life of holiness, drawn completely from the Bible and not from contemporary books or preachers, or from any of the fads that were popular during his lifetime, much as they are today or in any era. He is writing about personal, or private, holiness, the life we live behind closed doors with our families and closest friends. "I have had a deep conviction for many years that practical holiness and entire self-consecration to God are not sufficiently attended by modern Christians in this country. Politics, controversy, or party-spirit, or worldliness, have eaten out the heart of lively piety in too many of us. The subject of personal godliness has fallen sadly into the background." --"J. C. Ryle "
