Book excerpt: Journey back eighty years to a time of drugstore soda fountains, penny candy, homemade root beer, and ten-cent movies. Visit an era when people enjoyed such simple pleasures as sitting on the front porch, visiting with neighbors in the evening while the children played "kick the can" in a street devoid of traffic. What was life like in a world that had no television, cell phones, answering machines, computers, DVDs, electronic games, microwaves? Were those people happy? Yes, in spite of the Great Depression, they were happy and resourceful. Follow one family as it lives through a time in America's history when everyone's future was uncertain; when everyone cared and shared.

Book The Apology the United States Owes the Vietnam Veterans

Download or read book The Apology the United States Owes the Vietnam Veterans written by Raymond C. Christian and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2019-07-16 with total page 378 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The hottest war zone this country has ever been in was being fought by eighteen- and nineteen-year boys, you can call them men if you want. Since I was once a soldier and later an officer, I must point out the facts of being a teenager and being a man. Most of them enlisted and many were drafted to go fight the war in Vietnam. While the United States of America was being defended planes began to return to the states loaded down with the bodies of these young eighteen and nineteen-year-old soldiers in body bags. If you are not knowledgeable about the Institute of Medicine (IOM). You would think it is the Veterans Administration (VA) fault why the Vietnam Veterans have not gotten their benefits. I would advise you to continue reading. Then I want you to ask the question why nongovernmental researchers are being hired to do the research on “Agent Orange?” I also want you to know the Institute of Medicine (IOM) is no longer under the same name. They have the same function but a new name called the Health & Medicine Division which is also nongovernmental. As concerned citizens we must ask the question of why nongovernmental agencies are being allowed to research “Agent Orange?” I am certain the results will not shock you as to why the VA is not able to advance the Vietnam Veterans benefits because they are receiving their reports from the (HMD) stating there is no correlation with “Agent Orange” to the sickness the Vietnam Veterans have. The VA gets these reports every two years. Another well kept secret is the number of agents used in Vietnam. While many of you think there was just “Agent Orange.” My research shows it was a total of six different agents used.

Book The White Goddess An Encounter

Download or read book The White Goddess An Encounter written by Simon Gough and published by Galley Beggar Press. This book was released on 2012-08-25 with total page 704 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The White Goddess: An Encounter is a mesmerising tale of sex, lies and divided loyalties. Set between the magic of a bohemian Majorca and the horror of Franco's Madrid, it is a haunting evocation of a lost time and place, dominated by the extraordinary power of Robert Graves, one of the 20th century's greatest writers. When 10-year-old Simon Gough went to Majorca in 1953 he thought he had landed in paradise. Far from the misery of his English boarding school and his parents' divorce, he fell in love - with the tiny village of Deya, with his wild cousin Juan and most of all with his beloved "Grand-Uncle" Robert Graves. When he returned in 1960, paradise had been overrun by beatniks and marijuana - and Simon liked it all the more. But soon he fell for the enchanting Margot Callas, Robert Graves' muse. He found himself entangled in a web of lies and deceit and playing a game whose rules he didn't understand. The repercussions would haunt him for the rest of his life. The Observer says: "Impassioned, with all the intensive drama a youthful affair entails, this "autobifantasy" (as Gough calls it) is as much about a love of a place - the freedom and beauty of Dei? contrasts with the brutality of Franco's Madrid - as of a person. In fact, some of the finest parts of the book are not about Callas but the touching portrait of Graves and his wife Beryl; a tender, observant record both of their relationship and their real selves in their later years."
