Book Hold On to Your Kids

Download or read book Hold On to Your Kids written by Gordon Neufeld and published by Vintage Canada. This book was released on 2011-11-30 with total page 332 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A psychologist with a reputation for penetrating to the heart of complex parenting issues joins forces with a physician and bestselling author to tackle one of the most disturbing and misunderstood trends of our time -- peers replacing parents in the lives of our children. Dr. Neufeld has dubbed this phenomenon peer orientation, which refers to the tendency of children and youth to look to their peers for direction: for a sense of right and wrong, for values, identity and codes of behaviour. But peer orientation undermines family cohesion, poisons the school atmosphere, and fosters an aggressively hostile and sexualized youth culture. It provides a powerful explanation for schoolyard bullying and youth violence; its effects are painfully evident in the context of teenage gangs and criminal activity, in tragedies such as in Littleton, Colorado; Tabor, Alberta and Victoria, B.C. It is an escalating trend that has never been adequately described or contested until Hold On to Your Kids. Once understood, it becomes self-evident -- as do the solutions. Hold On to Your Kids will restore parenting to its natural intuitive basis and the parent-child relationship to its rightful preeminence. The concepts, principles and practical advice contained in Hold On to Your Kids will empower parents to satisfy their children’s inborn need to find direction by turning towards a source of authority, contact and warmth. Something has changed. One can sense it, one can feel it, just not find the words for it. Children are not quite the same as we remember being. They seem less likely to take their cues from adults, less inclined to please those in charge, less afraid of getting into trouble. Parenting, too, seems to have changed. Our parents seemed more confident, more certain of themselves and had more impact on us, for better or for worse. For many, parenting does not feel natural. Adults through the ages have complained about children being less respectful of their elders and more difficult to manage than preceding generations, but could it be that this time it is for real? -- from Hold On to Your Kids

Book excerpt: A stand-alone contemporary romance with an HEA. US award-winning journalist Susan Armstrong always gets her story. But her biological alarm clock went off a couple of years ago and now she has embarked on the next leg of her life’s journey; she’s going to have a baby. Seven months pregnant, she receives some very disturbing news and flies halfway around the world to find a former interview victim that might be the only person in the world that can help her. If he is willing to break a few laws, both legal and moral, for a woman he only met briefly, ten years ago, that is. And fast, because time is ticking and Susan is up against a completely new kind of deadline. Perhaps even a literal one? Swedish hacker Lynxx has a magic touch. He can make a computer do anything, but when it comes to women he’s all thumbs. That’s usually not a problem since he avoids the fair sex most of the time, but when a reporter from his past tracks him down and tries to make him break the law for her, he needs to figure out how to make a woman bend to his will. If he doesn’t bend first, that is. Or perhaps even breaks?

Book excerpt: When three best friends decide to stretch their wings and revamp the local airport in small-town Haven, Georgia, the destination is laughter and love . . . Jade McKenzie left her high-society family’s expectations behind when she came back to cozy Haven, and she’s never been happier. But what’s supposed to be a quick trip to Nashville for a cousin’s wedding turns into a disaster when one of the airport’s pilots offers to fly her there. One crash landing and a shared room later, and tattooed, bearded Cash Miller is standing in as her gorgeously unsuitable plus-one—and turning her on in ways she can’t deny. But a relationship? A real one? That’s definitely in the no-fly zone. Vincent “Cash” Miller doesn’t have much in the world, but he does have pride—and a strict policy not to let anyone trash-talk his friends, not even their mothers. Standing up for sexy, headstrong Jade comes naturally—but so does the bone-deep itch for her he’s always wanted to scratch. Giving in to attraction is one thing, but commitment is another. So why does it feel like together, love might take them to breathtaking heights? Praise for Jules Bennett and Stay with Me “Jules Bennett has a gift for creating warm-hearted, emotional stories of love, friendship, and romance set in small towns readers will want to return to again and again.” —JoAnn Ross, New York Times bestselling author “Readers will hope for Bennett to continue telling Haven’s love stories.” —Publishers Weekly

Book Hold On Someone Is on the Other Line

Download or read book Hold On Someone Is on the Other Line written by Darmonica Alexander and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2011-07 with total page 271 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book is about all of my dreams that I had that never came true. This book will also give the inside track of what I learned about me in my life as I travel through the journey of life. People have always talked about the truth about their life, but what about the whole truth, the good, the bad and the ugly? I am just a normal and regular person who is not perfect in no form shape or fashion. This book is just an insight of my life with all of the encounters coming from a very large family. By coming from a large family today caused many problems for me because I did not realize exactly how poor I was until I began to attend college. Not saying that most of our family didn't pull themselves out of their situations. Happiness came from the inside of your to come true. This book will show that I thought that it was the choices that I made, but in the end I found out that it wasn't only the choice, but it was other individual choices, but it was the decision of my parents that turned my life upside down and on its head. From my experience, as a child growing up here in America in the 60's and 70's life was to have dreams in our small little heads about becoming a fireman, sports photographer, doctor, or even a player playing sports. As a child having dreams are the responsibility of the parents to every effort to make their child dreams come true and this will make them successful and most of all very happy with their accomplishments. See I love the game of football and other sports as well, such as baseball, basketball and track and field, but football was my favorite. The reason that I loved football was my most favorite. The reason it was my favorite because on the football field this was where the smaller player could get even with the bigger bullies who wanted to talk trash to some of the small players. While I played the game of football in the little Pop Warner Football League, I silence the bigger boys without talking trash. As this book unfolds you will find out that other people in my life and bad timing played a role in my unsuccessful dreams. Then you will find out that my life was not only my decision alone. But on the side of all of this I had a good life and I maintained to stay happiness. Now if I had not exposed my life to you, many people would never know the pain and hardship that I experienced in my life time. I am still the same Darmonica who you have know in the past who love sports and love lending a helping hand where it's needed. For the love of life is to love yourself, help another and take the worst of life and make the best of it, and I did just that. Without my family and friends I would not be the person who I am NOW! That's why I say, Hold on, someone is on the other line!
