Book excerpt: My new boss likes rules, but there's one nobody dares to break... No touching his banana. Seriously. The guy is like a potassium addict. Of course, I touched it. If you want to get technical, I actually put it in my mouth. I chewed it up, too... I even swallowed. I know. Bad, bad, girl. Then I saw him, and believe it or not, choking on a guy's banana does not make the best first impression. I should backtrack a little here. Before I ever touched a billionaire

Book excerpt: For every woman that has ever felt trapped. A funny, raw and empowering mid-life-crisis-with-a-difference, vlogger, mother, lover businesswoman and social media phenomenon Tova Leigh explores what the hell you are supposed to do when you find yourself living a life you don't remember signing up for. “I was bored, angry, tired and sad. I felt all alone yet I had nothing to complain about. I had a good job, a husband who as far as I could tell wasn’t shagging his assistant, three children who apart from being the occasional assholes were pretty good kids; a house, a dog and everything else we are told as little girls we should aspire to. But inside, I was growing restless. I was sick of having the same dull conversations about meal plans and kid-friendly holidays. I was frustrated with having the same married sex I’d been having for the past seven years, or not having any sex at all. I didn’t want to be looked at as just a ‘mom’. I wanted to be desired, to make someone’s hair stand on end and go crazy for me. I didn’t want to live by some label that didn’t represent me. I looked at my messy SUV after my yoga class one morning and I wanted to vomit on it all. I panicked, thinking about how I am slowly approaching middle age and the menopause and I wondered how many years do I have left of being ‘f**ckable’ before everything starts going downhill?” We have many sides to us, most of the time we think we must choose just one character and stick to it. But the truth is, we can be all of them without having to choose. I am finally able to show the world that I am a bit of an idiot who dances around her kitchen in her knickers and makes silly videos with her husband, as well as a responsible parent and a businesswoman who runs her own company. When you find authenticity it’s hard to go back. It’s like opening a door to the truth and starting to breathe a new type of air. This discovery is what prompted me to write. It’s my way of saying HERE I AM. I don’t think we should be sorry for who we are. None of us.

Book When I Die Take My Panties

Download or read book When I Die Take My Panties written by Jennifer Coken and published by Morgan James Publishing. This book was released on 2016-12-13 with total page 255 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A daughter cares for her dying mother in this intimate memoir of ovarian cancer, frank conversations, and finding peace through laughter and gratitude. In 2006, Jennifer Coken’s mother was diagnosed with stage four ovarian cancer. She had a slim chance of living another five years, but she chose to spend her remaining days tap dancing through chemotherapy and loving her family and friends ferociously. In this witty and heartfelt memoir, Jennifer recounts how she found the strength to care for her mother and cope with her death while facing troubles in her own life. Challenging circumstances force us to face a harsh reality; so often we want to control life—and the truth is we can’t. This is a story of how personal transformation can come from tragedy if we are willing to find it. Above all, it is a wake-up call for anyone who needs the courage to have heartfelt conversations with the people they love right here, right now.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Living with the Unexpected deals with complexity and uncertainty, two major challenges in a world faced with climate change and hazards. The study focuses on appropriate methods which enable vulnerable communities to cope effectively with natural hazards and disasters. The central goal of the book is an applicable combination of hazard management and development planning. Therefore, the reconstruction process following a disaster is understood as an opportunity for structural changes and self-organisation processes that foster sustainable development. In this context the potential of scenario planning as an evolutionary and participatory learning approach is addressed. The empirical research concentrates on the time before and during the volcanic crisis on the Caribbean Island Montserrat. Particular methods used are a systematic analysis of the complex system Montserrat, more than 200 interviews with stakeholders and citizens – concentrating on resource and hazard perceptions – as well as the organization and execution of various scenario workshops. The study shows that the opportunity to realise sustainable development on the island with the help of a participative, adaptive reconstruction process is better than ever. The population is sensitised to disasters and an uncertain future. Their preparedness to accept measures which are designed to reduce their vulnerability is high. This book demonstrates how we can learn to live with the Unexpeted.

Book excerpt: A coming-of-age romance inspired by Great Expectations My life was irrevocably changed the moment I stepped foot inside Elena Alderman’s grand front doors. A lifeless tomb on the edge of Chicago’s Southside, the Alderman home sat in one of the city’s oldest and wealthiest neighborhoods, and Elena Alderman was the queen. She was also mad. Not the kind of madness that’s readily apparent. No, her psychopathy was far more surgical—more…insidious. She was surrounded by beautiful things—most notably her grand piano and her adopted son, Henry. I fell in love with both. My gift blossomed when my fingers touched her black and white keys. But my life began when I became haunted by the boy. Henry Alderman was a handsome blend of arrogance and seduction, and as we grew up together, I found it more and more impossible to separate him from my thoughts. I envied his life. I imagined how my name—Lily—would look with his. I became his closest friend…and more. I gave him my kiss, locked away his secrets, and loved him even when it was hard to. But we were just a game. Elena Alderman made the rules. And when she decided to change them, she broke everything. Almost.
