Excerpt: ... of my own prosecution and sufferings on account of my being a Freemason. I shall add, for the satisfaction of the curious, a succinct history of the pretended holy office; its origin; its establishment in France,3 Italy,4 Spain, and Portugal; the manner how it grasped, by insensible degrees,5 the supreme authority now exercised 3 Ducange tells us that the Inquisition was established in France, by the council of Toulouse, to punish the Waldenses, and the inquisitors were chosen from amongst the Dominicans. It is true the tribunal of the Inquisition was never legally settled in that country, yet inquisitors were delegated by the pope, under the pretext of preserving purity of doctrine, and obedience to the church. Pope Gregory ix. appointed a commission to exercise the inquisitorial functions in several convents throughout the kingdom. 4 The Inquisition of Rome is composed of twelve cardinals, and some other officers; over which the pope presides in person. These cardinals assume to themselves the title of Inquisitors General throughout the Christian world; but they have no jurisdiction in France, and some other Roman Catholic countries. They are empowered to deprive or remove all inferior inquisitors. Popes Innocent, Alexander, Urban, Clement, and their successors, used their most endeavours, but to no purpose, to prevail with the Venetians to follow the example of the other states of Italy in this particular. The conduct of the Inquisitors was adduced by the republic of Venice as a reason for refusing admission to that tribunal into its territories; for they were guilty of great disorders, preached seditious sermons, and, upon any caprice, published crusades against the heretics, and appeared to be more disposed to revenge themselves...

Book The Red Triangle

Download or read book The Red Triangle written by Robert Cooper and published by Lewis Masonic Pub. This book was released on 2011 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For at least two hundred years, Freemasonry has been subjected to witch-hunts. Conspiracy theories abound in which Freemasons manipulate whole governments, incite revolution, control the world banking system, and will engage in any activity, even murder, to advance their aims. Even today, Freemasonry is still seen a legitimate group to attack on the grounds of politics, religion and conspiracy theories. The Red Triangle uncovers the reality of this persecution of Freemasons from its first manifestation soon after people became aware of their existence in the seventeenth century. Attacks and persecution took place in many countries as Freemasonry spread around the world—there was even an anti-Masonic political party in nineteenth-century America that stood against Masonic politicians. In complete contrast, Freemasonry and the American Civil War provides a fascinating inside view of the ethos of Freemasons in extreme, life-threatening, situations when Freemasons offered assistance to their fellow Freemasons on opposite sides during the war.

Book The Jesuits Driven Away from Masonry and Their Dagger Shattered by Freemasons

Download or read book The Jesuits Driven Away from Masonry and Their Dagger Shattered by Freemasons written by and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2011-02-01 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book analyses the influence of the Jesuits on the symbolic degrees of freemasonry, the myths of the Templars and their doctrine of revenge, based on the "crime" of their destruction, and the four vows of the Templars included in their higher degrees. The historical observations and research of the Bonneville appears of a worthy interest. The praises of Histoire des religions et des moeurs de tous lespays du monde, of Mirabeau, of Mackey, of J. Bilington, of Mallet du-Pan, and those of one of the German translators easily identified as one of the heads of the Highest Masonry, prove the merit of the work, for which no writer has dared answer for the last thirty years, and where the true Masons go to seek the Ariadne's thread to help them walk in this inextricable labyrinth.
