Book German Grammar Reviewed and Retold

Download or read book German Grammar Reviewed and Retold written by Ulf Schütze and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-11-28 with total page 149 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: German Grammar: Reviewed and Retold is a user-friendly grammar/workbook designed to give German learners a great basis to build an in-depth knowledge of spoken and written German. Bridging the gap between grammar, storytelling, and culture, learners of the German language discover Germany’s cultural history as well as life in Germany today, while absorbing grammatical structures through reading and practice. This grammar is based on recent Second Language Acquisition (SLA) research and word frequency, to embed vocabulary and grammar into a language-specific cultural context. A key component of this approach is consistency and relevance, enabling students to apply grammatical structures to their language learning, as well as talking about the past, present, and future. Aimed at ACTFL levels Novice (all) to Intermediate (middle)/CEFR A1 to B1, this is the perfect grammar for post-beginners, combining storytelling with grammar acquisition.

Download or read book Historical German Grammar Vol 1 Classic Reprint written by Joseph Wright and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-07-27 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Historical German Grammar, Vol. 1 High German Primers. By so doing, he will gain a much firmer grasp of the subject than if he merely works at a grammar. If he already possesses a fair vocabulary of Old and Middle High German, he will most certainly master the grammar in far less time than he would do, were he quite ignorant of the older periods of the language. However, in writing this book I have not presupposed even an elementary knowledge of Old and Middle High German on the part of students but on the other hand it will be useless for anyone who has not already a fairly good knowledge of Modern German to attempt to read the book, because, in order to save space, I have omitted the meanings of the Modern German words, except in special cases where this might lead to confusion. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Historical German Grammar, Vol. 1 It is noteworthy fact that during the last few years there has been a steady increase in the number of people who take a real interest in the scientific study of language. The comparatively small number of such people, and the backward state of knowledge on the subject, are not due to lack of desire to learn, but chiefly to the lack of suitable handbooks written in English. In order therefore to meet this want, it has long been my intention to edit a series of grammars which shall give for each language a concise account of its phonology, morphology, inflexions and syntax from an historical point of view. I was unable to develop this scheme whilst working at the English Dialect Dictionary; but now that I am free from those labours, I am able to devote my whole time and energy to the furtherance of the project. This book then is the first of the series of historical grammars. Although it has been compressed into a comparatively small compass, I venture to think that it is the most complete treatise on historical German grammar which has hitherto appeared in the English language. A glance at the Index of over 4,000 words will show that I have not shirked the drudgery of collecting large numbers of examples to illustrate the sound-laws in the different periods of the language, and more especially those in the modern period. In addition to illuminating profiles of key places and individuals who helped shape German history from Roman times to the present day, the textbook also includes important cultural briefings. Later chapters introduce cases, indirect and direct objects, prepositions, tenses, moods, and adjectives. Each chapter includes challenging exercises, and an answer key is provided. The rich cultural component in each chapter includes a travel guide, a historical snapshot, several musical selections, and a German text to read. This book is a straightforward and thorough introduction to the basic structures of German grammar and provides an overview of selected highlights of German culture to engage and enthuse.
