Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book excerpt: In Pura vida (Life is good)Spanish is more than vocabulary and grammar, just as Spanish-speaking cultures are more than products and practices. In this learner-centered introductory program, the authors’ commitment to a methodology based on true-to-life experiences brings Spanish to life. Pura vida is the discovery of a Spanish-speaking world through the experiences of real people who share anecdotes and reflections on those experiences. Students relate to these people and make deeper, more meaningful connections between language and culture, and acquire Spanish with an unparalleled sense of personal engagement. In this 12-chapter introductory program, students don’t only learn Spanish for real life, but also from real life. They discover that there is not just one homogeneous Hispanic culture, but rather that each Spanish-speaking country has its own rich, unique culture and that the people who live in these countries speak one common language with different accents, characteristics, and idiosyncrasies. Book Legacies of Great Men in World Soccer

Download or read book Legacies of Great Men in World Soccer written by Kausik Bandyopadhyay and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-10-02 with total page 215 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Soccer, the world’s most popular mass spectator sport, gives birth to great achievers on the field of play all the time. While some of them become heroes and stars during their playing career, transforming themselves into national as well as global icons, very few come to be remembered as all-time greats. They leave an enduring legacy and thereby claim to be legends by their own rights. While the rise and achievements of these soccer greats have drawn considerable attention from scholars across the world, their legacies across time and space have mostly been overlooked. This volume intends to reconstruct the significance of the legacies of such great men of world soccer particularly in a globalized world. It will attempt to show that these luminous personalities not only represent their national identity at the global stage, but also highlight the proven role of the players or coaches in projecting a global image, cutting across affiliations of nation, region, class, community, religion, gender and so on. In other words, the true heroes, icons and legends of the world’s most popular sport have always floated at a transnational global space, transcending the limits of space, identity or culture of a nation. This book was published as a special issue of Soccer and Society.

Book Historias secretas de los mundiales

Download or read book Historias secretas de los mundiales written by Alejandro Fabbri and published by Capital Intelectual. This book was released on 2017-10-24 with total page 378 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Football and International Relations under Francoism 1937 1975

Download or read book Football and International Relations under Francoism 1937 1975 written by Juan Antonio Simón and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-10-03 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book shines a light on the specific role football played in relation to the international relations of the Franco regime in mid-twentieth-century Spain. In the 35 years of the dictatorship of General Francisco Franco, sport, specifically football as the main mass sport, was often used as a tool at the service of the political and diplomatic interests of the regime, and this volume analyses how Franco's government, mainly through its Ministry of Foreign Affairs, used football as part of its foreign policy strategy to promote the international image of the dictatorship. Prestige international tours and friendly matches, the European successes of Real Madrid CF and of the national team and the organisation of sporting events such as the 1964 European Nations Cup were used as instruments to strengthen the country's geopolitical interests. This book responds to an important bibliographical gap that exists in relation to both research on Franco's regime and the study of the role that sport played under Franco and in comparison with other totalitarian regimes such as fascism and Nazism. Football and International Relations under Francoism, 1937–1975 is an ideal resource for academics in sports history, football history and international relations studies, as well as those with an interest in Spanish history and the study of totalitarianism in Europe.
