Download or read book Historia de la filosof a III Del Humanismo a la Ilustraci n siglos XV XVIII written by Guillermo Fraile and published by . This book was released on 2011-04-26 with total page 1120 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Universals in Second Scholasticism

Download or read book Universals in Second Scholasticism written by Daniel Heider and published by John Benjamins Publishing Company. This book was released on 2014-03-15 with total page 358 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study aims to present a comparative analysis of philosophical theories of universals espoused by the foremost representatives of the three main schools of early modern scholastic thought. The book introduces the doctrines of Francisco Suárez, S.J. (1548–1617), the Thomist John of St. Thomas, O.P. (1589–1644), and the Scotists Bartolomeo Mastri da Meldola, O.F.M. Conv. (1602–1673) and Bonaventura Belluto, O.F.M. Conv. (1600–1676). The author examines in detail their mutual doctrinal delineation as well as the conceptualist tenet of the Jesuit Pedro Hurtado de Mendoza (1578–1641), whose thought constitutes an important systematic point of comparison especially with Suárez’s doctrine. The book offers the first comparative elaboration of the issue of universals, in both its metaphysical and its epistemological aspects, in the era of second scholasticism.

Book John Case and Aristotelianism in Renaissance England

Download or read book John Case and Aristotelianism in Renaissance England written by Charles Schmitt and published by McGill-Queen's Press - MQUP. This book was released on 1983-07-01 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dr. Schmitt shows that Case was heir to both the traditions of scholastic interpretation of Aristotle and the new humanistic currents, that his Aristotelianism was strongly eclectic, and that he drew heavily upon Renaissance Neoplatonic and other intellectual traditions in compiling well-rounded philosophical manuals adapted to his age. Schmitt argues that, even though Case was the prime representative of peripatetic thought during Elizabeth's reign, he forged strong links with leading figures in such areas of English culture as drama, literature, art, and music, as well as with important ecclesiastical and political figures. He also contends that Aristotelian philosophy had a much more central position in England than has been previously admitted. Case's position in the scholastic revival which marked late sixteenth- and early seventeenth-century English intellectual life is charted, and the historical reality of this revival is firmly established.
