Heureu sement il arriva au royaume ou plutot aux royaumes des Francs de posseder le germe d'un avenir meil leur dans une institution primitivement peu impor tante, mais qui devint plus tard, par le merite de quelques hommes superieurs, l'ancre de salut de la nation. Nous voulons parler du majordomat, ou de la mairie du palais, possedee, a partir de l'an 613, par les fondateurs de la dynastie carolingienne.
