This book was released on 2023-09-01 with total page 545 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The nineteenth-century international religious movement known as the Réveil had a major impact on Protestantism, and particularly on Evangelicalism. That impact is still evident today. Yet as a multi-faceted phenomenon, this movement has not received its due share of scholarly attention. This book offers a collection of essays exploring the international dimensions of the Genevan strand of the Réveil, providing an overview of events and trends, outlining the careers of some of its key figures, and highlighting some of the areas in which it made a contribution to contemporary society. As the first such collection to focus on this movement, it brings together scholars from several countries, with expertise in its various aspects.

Book Every Believer a Disciple

Download or read book Every Believer a Disciple written by David E. Bjork and published by Langham Global Library. This book was released on 2015-06-14 with total page 259 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The growth of Christianity in recent decades has been remarkable, but has it been growth with depth? Are our communities of faith, our churches, creating and nurturing deeply committed followers of Jesus? This book was born out of the realization that churches throughout the world, despite their numerous evangelization and spiritual development activities, are struggling to produce true disciples of Jesus. How can we explain why so many of us in our churches are so unlike Jesus in the way we think and act? What can we change in our understanding and practices to facilitate life transformation and spiritual multiplication? And as Christians what are we called to do? In answering these questions the author proposes an alternative ecclesial and missional paradigm, that will enable us to better equip and mobilize believers in the mission that Christ gave to his disciples and gives to us all, to make disciples!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Poor of Lyons, whom their detractors called 'Waldensians' - after the name of their founder Waldo (or Vaudès) - first emerged around 1170 and formed in common with other groups of the period a sect which embraced evangelism, prophecy and poverty. By challenging their prohibition by the lay clergy, and by following the Scripture to the last letter, they suffered excommunication and were condemned as heretics. Forced underground and dispersed widely, they nevertheless managed to maintain contact across Europe, through an established network of itinerant preachers, in Provence and Dauphiné, Calabria and Piedmont, Austria and Bohemia, Pomerania, Brandenburg, Silesia and beyond. The Poor of Lyons constituted the only medieval heresy to have survived to the dawn of the so-called 'modern' period. Their tale of simple devotion mixed with a fierce tenacity serves to illuminate aspects of religious belief that have persisted to the present day. This book was first published in 1999.

Book A Civil Society with no Hierarchy

Download or read book A Civil Society with no Hierarchy written by Ilie Badescu and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2023-04-24 with total page 349 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ilie Bădescu and Joseph Livni follow the footsteps of two giants who pioneered the field: H. H. Stahl of Romania, who studied the sociology of communal societies, and D. J. Elazar of the United States, who studied the political science of covenantal societies. This collection sheds light on obscure corners of the field, gathering up thoughts and concepts of many other sources of past and contemporary research in the field. In this volume, the reader will find answers to difficult questions like: How did acephalous societies penetrate civilization? How did they manage to preserve their egalitarian ethos? Why did powerful hierarchies work in partnership with them? And, most importantly, how did covenantal societies work around the constraints of a civilized reality? The history of civilization consists of various degrees of stratified configurations ranging from oligarchic city states to powerful pyramidal empires.
